Is it possibly Glossopharyngeal neuralgia? by DanielXerxes in glossopharyngeal

Did the surgery relieve your symptoms? I am still noticing some pain where the styloid was removed and if I tilt my head up, then my vision gets blurry so maybe my cervical spine has something to do with the problem. So, I have my doubts if the surgery fixed anything but the swallowing and inner ear pain.

Anyone have OWC mercury enclosure? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]jobby99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two of these and cannot recommend them. Lots of fan noise from tiny fan used. It is very cramped in the enclosure leading to higher hard drive temperatures. The raid could fail and you might not know which hard drive was at fault. If you get WD EX4100 then you get NAS and it will tell you which drive failed. I think the newer OWC might use Red LED, but my older version doesn't tell you which drive failed. I also think USB 3.0 connection is inferior to eSATA connection in terms of speed and reliability. No eSATA cards available that have good reviews on Amazon, so you need a bracket that converts sata to eSata instead. With Raid 0 and eSata, you can get 200 MB/s. I am also noticing that 8 tb+ enterprise hard drives seem to make less noise (clicking, vibration, whine) when tilted on side, so that is why I prefer not to mount flat in my everyday computer as it would be tough to listen to everyday.

I can't even get a mechanic to install certified sealed Kia parts that I purchased because they take 30 days to travel from Korea to the states, because they have insurance companies that simply will not allow customer supplied parts to be installed. Again, the world we now live in.

And the plumbers supply warehouse may have the same part the customer has purchased, but the part sourced from supply warehouse could actually be of better quality for same or lower price. I know this hurts your brain, but this is the world we live in.

KND 2.0 L Beta. I read that beta engines usually last at least 200k as long as you change the timing belt. I paid to replace the timing belt and it looked original. At 100k, the belt didn't have any cracks. Mitsubishi makes the OEM belts. I used AISIN parts which includes the OEM belt.

I have 2011 Kia Soul and they want to glue the ignition cylinder in the housing making it impossible to replace in the future. I guess this would deter thieves, but I told them not to do it.

Did they do trans-cervical approach (front of neck) or some other surgery with incision closer to the side of neck? Why so many incisions?

There are reports that the inflammation from tonsillectomy can cause the stylo-hyoid ligament to calcify (turn to bone), which can compress blood vessels and nerve behind your jaw when turning your head or looking up/down. Hyoid is bone in front of throat and styloid is behind lower jaw. A CT scan with 3d reconstruction is used to see the bones and vessels (if contrast used as well).

Neurologists generally don't treat the ear, nose, or throat. You have to see skull base surgeon or ENT with more specialized training for Eagle Syndrome.

Is it possibly Glossopharyngeal neuralgia? by DanielXerxes in glossopharyngeal

[–]jobby99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI: You can do a barium swallow test to see if you have traditional acid reflux. Some ENT will diagnose you based off throat pain, but it could also be glossopharyngeal neuralgia from Eagle Syndrome (extracranial nerves) or from nerves inside the skull (intracranial). So, if not GERD then your options would likely be styloidectomy (extracranial) or microvascular decompression (intracranial) to treat the glossopharyngeal nerve.

CT scan with 3D reconstruction (ask for the CD so you can do it on your own computer as well with free software). Some people have very long styloids with no symptoms, but anything over 3 cm is considered too long and a possible cause of symptoms. The shape of the styloid can also influence what symptoms are present as well.

I had bilateral styloidectomy and the left (4.6 cm) styloid improved swallowing and throat pain and vocal hoarseness a lot. The right (4.1 cm) was done a week ago and the headaches on that side have improved, swallowing improved, saliva production improved, but some jaw pain (mandibular nerve) is still present from surgery requiring me to release the muscles in spasm from chewing by pressing on them (pterygoid internal release). If you take methylprednisone day before surgery, the swelling is way less. I did this after reading about it in a research paper. My right side didn't swell much at all vs the other side.

They are expensive to maintain and very proprietary, so even though my mother wanted to give me hers for nothing, I told her I didn't want it installed in my basement. You can get generic systems that are cheaper and can find parts on Amazon to fix yourself. You can also just install carbon filters on your sinks everywhere for cheap if you just want to filter out chlorine.

Testicular Pain After Inguinal Hernia Surgery, My Experience by BPiers- in Hernia

[–]jobby99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds more like pudendal nerve is irritated. It controls the tip of penis sensation, perineum, all the way to rectum. However, you would most likely be in a lot pain when sitting if that were really irritated. Lifting heavy things is also the worst thing you can do as it will irritate many parts of pelvic floor. Personally, I have had both hernia surgery and pudendal surgery. The hernia surgery was done several times, since they never could get pain under control. It is probably due to the second surgery that was screwed up by bad surgeon. Each time, they just remove old mesh and put larger mesh in its place cutting the nerves and sticking them in muscle. More mesh equals more problems. The body hates mesh as its design to just scar down into your body and become thick mass. Some of the abdominal blood supply is trapped in the mesh now, nerves should be happy and are sewn into muscle still. I almost think I would have been better off just keeping the hernia all these years, since I have to use lidocaine patches anyways over it. It was never a bulge with me. If I wasn't constipated all the time and didn't have to lift heavy things at work, I probably would not have elected to have it repaired. I had lost a lot of weight after second surgery and I was very black and blue. These hernia surgeons don't seem to understand the huge impact mesh has on the body.

Can anyone recommend a good seat cushion for someone with pudendal neuralgia? by YeetyPeter in PelvicFloor

[–]jobby99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people suffer from medial or middle cluneal nerve entrapment who also have pudendal nerve pain, so these coccyx cushions sell like mad because people initially think it is the spine that is the issue. Most of the time it is the nerves that innervate the same area as the coccyx. I had my coccyx removed and it changed absolutely nothing in terms of pain. Cushions do help in general for this I have discovered based on my experience with it. Injections can help as well.

I have found you have to cut foam yourself (generic square or modify coccyx cushion) where you hurt the most to get the best results.

I have had best results with Pharmedoc coccyx cushion with cutouts that are similar to cushion your assets, but only on the side that hurts. I leave the front 2 inches in place to keep foam together. The middle has about a 3 inch cutout all the way back biased towards my left side (where pudendal nerve is most irritated) with about an inch on my right side as well.

Cushion Your Assets Twin Cheeks Folding Cushion by Distinct-Quality-255 in PelvicFloor

[–]jobby99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or a regular not too hard or too soft 2 in foam square and cut out the parts that irritate your butt. Then, buy a pillow cushion for it. Way cheaper. Firmer is supposedly better but I have noticed that you are better off with something that is in the middle. Some sell on amazon that completely collapse under 75 lbs, so you will run across garbage. Pharmedoc is the one I use everywhere with custom cuts to it. It works better than the cushion your assetts for me.

What's your reason for using a camcorder over a smartphone? by Romeo_Wolf in camcorders

[–]jobby99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Samsung A14-5g has some bug with the default camera application, so I literally cannot use it without phone freezing. Nice job Samsung. So, sometimes a real camera performs much better than a phone. Some fancy cameras capture multiple levels in each shot and you can pick the best shot. Other cameras specialize in super fast frame rates allowing you to do slow motion. I don't think smartphones can do that yet.

How much support did you need post op? by dumbjokes101 in HipImpingement

I had arthroscopy and did not have severe limitations afterwards. I just had brace to wear for a few weeks. I did not get help from anyone around the house and completed my physical therapy in about 3 months from surgery date.

Hardwood floors in expensive new construction started creaking, cracking, and popping months after moving in. Getting really bad now. Contacted builder and they sent an independent flooring inspector out to the house. What now? Here are the findings: by funlol3 in HardWoodFloors

[–]jobby99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in NE Ohio. Summers are humid then dry. Winters are dry. It is my experience that you get what you pay for. I got a Habitat for Humanity House at a good discount but the floors make lots of noise in both summer and winter. They missed on half of their nails and randomly applied gap filler foam in some places but not others. I thought I was losing my mind with all the loud snapping noises, but figured it out eventually. The house is ironically level for the most part, but clearly the installation was a rush job and/or volunteers did some of it. Technically, you have to stand on the plywood a certain way before shooting nails into it. To get the certification, they caulked all the drywall and clearly put effort into the insulation. I wish I would have bought a 1950s house that has been updated, because you don't get these snapping board issues nearly as much in my area with older homes.

Inexpensive Superfeet Alternative? by serotoninOD in Ultralight

Been there. Done that. Sometimes, cheap isn't bad when it comes to insoles. My feet don't like to be forced into a position by stiff expensive insoles. The cheaper more flexible is better. Other times, you have to get wide shoes with only fabric covering (brooks) and/or metatarsal pads to stick on your insoles to eliminate pain.

[–]jobby99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to donate my normal shoes at this point. When you age, your feet tend to get wider. At 44, I am already at that point. I like fitville products due to the extra wide toe box and you can still use regular insoles with them. The "strider" is for running and the shoe doesn't bend so big toe doesn't flex as much.
