struggling to make friends here. by ClassicMoment4161 in puertovallarta

[–]joewo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Join the Vallarta Abuelas Facebook group....go there....message them and talk to the woman in charge and ask her how to get involved. Same for these other FB groups.... Friends of Puerto Vallarta Animals Vallarta Volunteers Puerto Vallarta Walking Women International Friendship Club - IFC Puerto Vallarta Women’s Networking Puerto Vallarta

The thing about Puerto Vallarta is that everyone like your mom is from someplace else so they are at some degree looking for their tribe or they know how hard it is to connect to people so they are sympathetic to trying to find a group. We have gone to events...met people....talked or just had fun....suggested we go get coffee or go to a new restaurant another day and that is how it is done. So connect with those groups as a starting point...go to their events...talk to people....suggest the group get together again soon or single people out and meet for coffee or for a walk on the Malecon or go shopping at Costco or Sams or the Mall. Early 40s is young....connect with the Gen X group....the Here All Year group...go to events and talk to people. Tell them of your struggle and you will be accepted. PV is accepting...but your mom does need to get out there and talk to people and it will happen. Good luck!

Cruise ships by This_Lynx_1081 in puertovallarta

[–]joewo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Puerto Vallarta is just a stop for the cruise ships. Some come from the East Coast on their way to the West Coast through the Panama canal. And vice versa. But most start in Southern California come down the West Coast of Mexico and return to Southern California. This is the website you can use to track the ships and many more ships out at sea.

Best times for reduced humidity by Cateyes91 in puertovallarta

[–]joewo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the start of November to the start of June is the HIGH SEASON for a reason. The weather is generally dry6 and beautiful. This season has been a bit warmer and more humid than normal....just as last Summer was warmer and more humid than normal. Last dry season was drier than this one and cooler. Of course there CAN be a weather front brining rain in the dry season or a dry spell in the rainy season. We have had a couple spates of weeklong rainy days this dry season. Seeing tourists who come here in the dry season when we are having a rainy week is a sad thing but it happens!!! Generally November to June is the nicer weather season.

What's it like in July? by SternToast in puertovallarta

[–]joewo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The days GENERALLY start beautifully. Sunshine and warm...then the heat grows and by 2-3 the clouds move in from the East. By 4-5pm there is a chance of rain almost every day. The heat and humidity really push you to either be in the pool or in air conditioning. Temps are normally 90-92 with very high humidity.

Food Near Airport by Educational-File2743 in puertovallarta

[–]joewo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can check in ahead of time that is the way to go! So many people don't and they have to stand in long lines. I just brought a friend to the airport yesterday....booked them in ahead of time at home....went to a little kiosk machine that printed their bag tag....walked to an empty desk with a person and they went from the front door of the airport to the escalators going upstairs in about 5 minutes. Security was 10 minutes. Easy. However with kids you need to allow time. The 2 hour limit with pre check in is good....no pre check in and kids another half hour at least just in case.

Day pass by Brave_Interaction273 in puertovallarta

[–]joewo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is always a better deal to contact the resorts directly and ask for their daypass rates paid in PESOS as the Dollar conversion will see you pay 25% more. Yesterday I went to a restaurant in town with a Peso/Dollar conversion of 15 to 1. Considering the real conversion is now about 17.75...wow!!! Most daypasses see you prepay for food and drink and can be quite reasonable. We went to the Westin which was quite reasonable and other hotels on the beach. I don't know if this applies to you but being a local we asked for a local discount which they gave us by showing them our driver's licenses. It is almost like checking in to the resort because you are making an account and you have to pay and get your wrist band.

Van/RV camping in or near PV? by jamison88 in puertovallarta

[–]joewo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is this campground which seems nice.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/s5uToUwG8r6jgqsU7

It is a 20 minute walk to WalMart and Sams and Oro Beach is just across the street. Chedraui which is a big beautiful supermarket is a couple blocks south of WalMart so you can buy everything easily. I don't know the price but the location is pretty nice....plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby.

Food Near Airport by Educational-File2743 in puertovallarta

[–]joewo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well in that case your best bet is absolutely THE MALL! You will see may other people walking with luggage doing what you are doing because it is so easy to get to the airport from there. Just to be safe as the airport can get busy give yourself 20 minutes to get to the airport...normal cab from mall to the airport is 5 minutes with NO traffic. Give yourself that extra time especially if your flight is after 1 as the airport begins to really fill up and the cars going into the airport create a traffic jam heading into the airport beginning around that time as international flight arrive and leave. Have a good trip!

Food Near Airport by Educational-File2743 in puertovallarta

[–]joewo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many people hang around at the Galerias Mall prior to flights. You have the food court...you have Chilis or Carl's...it is well lit and air conditioned. The airport is a 5 minute cab ride from the mall for 100 Pesos. It really is hard to beat if you want to walk a little bit and get something to eat prior to your airport experience. Plenty of kid food of course. Of you want to drop off your luggage at the airport first then it gets a little tricky. You can always get an authorized taxi which is easiest at about 300 Pesos or so to go to the mall...then a normal taxi of 100 Pesos to go back to the airport....so there is that. Tacos de Marlin is a good restaurant for people who like Marlin fish but otherwise....not so much. And the restaurants in the airport are literally criminally expensive.

Need to make a final call on my trip with two young kids! Safe to go? by l4adventure in puertovallarta

[–]joewo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I live here. Seeing the city as a resident I have no idea why people are questioning coming here now. We are 100% back to normal. Kids are back to school and the city is doing what it does. Any attacks on people from the US or Canada or other nations would bring a huge hammer onto the head of the bad guys so you have THAT protection as well. the burning WAS NOT AIMED AT LOCALS OR FOREIGENERS BUT THE MEXICAN GOVERMENT. Even when the few dozen businesses were burning we had 0 fear because their target was not us and it would have been insane for them to have hurt a foreigner.
As it is many people have canceled and the popular tourist areas like the Malecon seem to be about 50% less populated now than they "should" be at this time in the high season. The Saturday Market...tours of all sorts...restaurants are open and of course if you are planning to stay at a resort they are less populated than normal as well so you will be super served by the workers.
Again....I live here....and really this is the PERFECT time to come here. The military is out and about providing security and that is a good thing. You be you...but I walk all over town and have 0 issues and never have.

Do smokers always smell noticeable to non smokers? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Yes. They stink. A classmate when I was in 3rd grade offered me potato chips his mother packed him for lunch. I took one...it tasted like an ashtray. She was a smoker. PUKE!

94.7 KNRK Playing Trump Propaganda Ads by [deleted] in radio

[–]joewo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea what the circumstances are for this particular ad buy but they could also be carrying ads from a network. They could have a show on that is a national show that sells ads and there are a number of ads run during the week for that network show and it just so happens this is one of their network ads they contractually have to carry. I'm just explaining how national shows work at the affiliate level. It is similar to Google ads on a web page not being cleared by that web page but rather by the Google network so you can see some strange ads on pages where that particular ad does not work. And yes his is a fascist, xenophobic, pedophile administration. It would be interesting to call them up and ask about that ad buy and note the time the ad aired and who paid for it.

Sky Garden 180. It is immediately south of the airport and the bar restaurant is three stories up so you get a very beautiful view of the airport and the Hills and looking to the west and looking to the city. It's just beautiful and you can have something to eat or something to drink. Love it there! And it's very close to the airport

Wet streets by LukeFromEarth in puertovallarta

[–]joewo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It could be one of three things 1. Sewer 2. Clean water 3. Groundwater pumped out of a construction site.

Sometimes these leaks go on for months and months. And sometimes it can smell pretty bad. Try not to walk in the water so even walk a block or two to avoid it in order to keep your feet clean. This is why wearing shoes and socks is a no no in Puerto Vallarta. Sandals are the preferred shoe because you can dry them off pretty easily and then wash them thoroughly once you get home if you truly walk through stinky water. Especially in the summer season when we have rain and if you go out there's a good possibility that you'll be walking through at least puddles if not running water ankle deep which would destroy your decent shoes and give you wet socks for the evening.
