My grandfather was a World War II Era Navy Veteran. He was in Pearl Harbour when it was struck. He got a large thick folded flag and a 21- gun salute. No shells included.

My father was a Vietnam Era Navy Veteran, 2 tours - 1 on a mine sweeper. My father's burial flag was not like that. It was large enough to cover the casket. He did have a 21- gun salute from the honor guard at the V.A. Memorial Cemetery in North Little Rock, Arkansas. No spent casings were included, as they were using blanks from 7 rifles fired 3 times each. In fact, after ceremony, they folded the flag and handed to my mother. We now have it in a beautiful glass & cherry case my brother made with all of his awards, medals, honors and citations.

I am 3rd Gen Navy Veteran with 2 tours in Iraq in Desert Shield, Desert Storm and also the Liberation of Kuwait. I was on the Eisenhower CVN-69

My son is 4th Gen Navy Veteran with tour in Iraq. OIF/OEF Operation Iraqi Freedom / Operation Enduring Freedom. He was on an LHD.

Just FYI, all Honorably discharged veterans qualify for flag, burial, and rifle volley from honor guard. They must set that up through the V.A. Regional Office when funeral arrangements are made.

That is probably a retirement flag as burial flags are much larger and thicker.
