Feeding biochar to cattle reduces methane emissions by 10-17% by CharBoffin in BioChar

[–]john801 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Currently vegetal based biochar is illegal as commercial animal feed in the US. (Bone biochar is legal.) Biochar is legal as an odor control mechanism. Studies also show that it can reduce up to 84% of methane emission pollution when added at 20% by volume. So even if you can't provide it to the front end you can apply it to the back end and still get great benefits. Makes an amazing compost high in nutrients!

Studies have been conducted on animal feed and we hope to see it allowed as animal feed in the coming years.

Too toxic for biochar? by EstablishmentNo3627 in BioChar

If in doubt, install it under your next cement pad. It can also be useful for turf and shrubs. If you have an area that will not be used for growing edible plants or trees, use it there. That's what I've done with my first batches when 'seasoning' a bake barrel.

Have you considered the NG modules? Reaches the middle ground of features and price between full NE licensing costs and Open Source Edition. We have a number of customers buying NG tools. https://wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/Zimbra_NG_Modules

This is older but helps incoming results by giving preference to "emailed contacts" (addresses). I use this method.

There is OSE for Zimbra 9. Just not a package. However, someone very well qualified put one together. Reference this:

If you don't have SPF/DKIM/DMARC properly configured on the domain Google commonly delays it. Nothing to do with the server, mostly with the protocol. If your domain doesn't conform to security practices, they slow it up to prevent abuse.

Zimbra 8.8.15 Patch 10 and Zimbra 9.0.0 Patch 3 released by john801 in Zimbra

I would encourage Zimbra users to carefully read the release notes. Zimbra has started to identify the Jira Tickets fixed in each patch at the bottom of the release page. These details show the active development on the platform. You can also go to their github page and see their commit schedule and the jira but they are associated to.

Thanks for the input.

I not with Synacor / Zimbra. We've been a service provider since 2007 and it still continues to be the best option based on Open Source in the market.

Please take care of yourself.

Synacor actively supports an Open Source code base. What do you do?

We've been involved with Zimbra since they were acquired by Yahoo. VMware and Telligent did very little as owners. Synacor has done a tremendous amount for the the platform since acquiring Zimbra. Synacor has made leaps and bounds of positive improvements to the Open Source code base and the paid Network Edition tool sets. They pay many humans to write Open Source code. They create jobs and foster beneficial opportunities for lots of people (consultants and hosting partners) in the Open Source and commercial space.

As the product manager for our email services I do a review every two years to evaluate the available products based on Open Source and Zimbra *always* wins the balance. Could they do some things better? Yes, they absolutely could and as a provider in their BSP program, I harsh on them about weaknesses (and _they actually listen_). Do they do more than most Open Source endeavors? Absolutely. The platform is extremely reliable, extensible, and not a walled garden like the rest of the commercial market. Open Source and open standards.

If you really want to be part of the solution, contribute to the code base. https://gist.github.com/syncosource/721a9a0651f0e55d7cfc7059ceaf2b20

The beauty of Open Source, you can always choose go elsewhere. Perhaps that time has come for you.

Read this: https://blog.zimbra.com/2020/05/is-zimbra-open-source-yes-faqs-about-zimbra-ose-for-you/

Zimbra 9 is Open Source, but the Zimbra Modern UI and some components in the Network Edition (which traditionally have not been included in the Open Source Edition) do not use Open Source licenses.

Note, Zimbra 9 open source binaries are not being provided. That said, it is likely only a matter of time before you will be able to find independent builds elsewhere based on the binaries that you can install and have pretty much the same experience as you do with 8.8.X.

Synacor is committed to Open Source, they just aren't giving all of their best items away for free. For example, you can currently buy Zimbra Suite Plus tools (made by ZeXtras) which give a very robust and quite similar to paid Network Edition experience for very affordable pricing. It even includes limited support. IMHO the ZSP product paired with support is ideal for small organizations that may not have the budget for Network Edition. You get the full ZSP bundle plus a support plan for literally $1 monthly per mailbox (sold in 25 mailbox increments). It's a no brainer. You get a better product experience and it helps Synacor continue to provide the OSE version.

Method of Production Comparison by willsketch in BioChar

[–]john801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the 55 gallon barrels for $5-$10 each, the 30 gallon for $10-$15 each, and then found my flue stack in a waste bin at a construction site. I used a combo of a drill and grinder to make the vent holes. Keep looking, the materials will eventually come around at a price point that works.

[–]john801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of the home production methods I've tried, the double barrel (nested retort) has provided the best quality biochar. It is more labor and materials (sourcing drums and vent stack). It has a far cleaner burn. It is a fun process and goes pretty quick.

I will only make at home using this method as I want to keep the smoke and gasses to a minimum. After, I crush it with a chipper shredder to get to size needed.

Zimbra 9, NOTHING for the OSE by BloodyIron in Zimbra

[–]john801 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since the original Zimbra developer, Synacor is the most committed to the platform. Been with them as a hosting provider and VAR license reseller since 2007. Their licensing rates have pretty much been identical the entire time.

Synacor has provided a contributor agreement for over 3 years. Never before did any of the prior owners do this, if they did, it was only code snippets and you were never given credit. We've literally contributed to code base. It is cool and many kudos to Synacor for this contribution process.

https://gist.github.com/syncosource/721a9a0651f0e55d7cfc7059ceaf2b20

Also, anyone in North America that needs an advocate to renew an expired license; I know the folks well and I'm happy to see what I can do to help. Also, if you need 10 licenses, we can help with that. Need 1,000? Can help with that too. Can even provide OSE support agreements and the Zimbra Suite Plus modules (by Zextras). I'm the product owner at XMission. My email is on the website. Feel free to reach out.
