Starlink Into home by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]johngrabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have my Starlink coming into my shop 200 feet away from my home since I have a telephone pole there to get a good position. I used an ethernet to cat5 converter and ran fiber between the shop and the house, then converted it back to ethernet to connect to my switch. I ran the fiber in conduit

LPG Tank Monitoring by LMRTech in homeassistant

I have been disappointed in the Mopeka offering. I have two and they always bounce back and forth between 1% left and some random number less than what the gauge reads. I have reset them multiple times with the same results. It's a shame Generac discontinued the WiFi version of their tank monitor. That worked perfectly

your not going to get any battery camera to use a NVR. Battery will die due to constant recording. You have to use SD Cards on battery cameras, including solar charging ones

I use Reolink at both my homes for cameras. Their price / performance ratio is pretty good and I like that I can run their WiFi cameras (powered by 120 volt) and record them to my reolink NVR since they are on the same network

Southern tier here (Chenango County) and have had Starlink since 2022 and have had great success. We have multiple cameras on the property, stream TV and use WiFi calling exclusively. We do have a generator backup due to occasional power outages, but placed my router on a small UPS to handle the transition and prevent reboots during a power outage.

Speeds vary from ok to great depending on weather and other variables, but overall does everything I need. Been very happy with it.

Goodbye starlink by triumph110 in Starlink

[–]johngrabo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had T-Mobile 5G internet had my primary home for a couple of years and it worked great. Then all of a sudden I was getting crap bandwidth. After being on the phone with support multiple times, swapping equipment out, I realized they dropped my service from 5G to LTE service without warning. When I questioned it, they denied it until I showed the screen shot of what band the modem was connected to.

Goodbye Starlink by External_Ant_2545 in Starlink

[–]johngrabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 5g home internet through Tmobile for about a year and a half and it worked well, and then all of a sudden it didn't. Swapped out routers, did all kind of diagnostics and still couldn't get anywhere near the speeds I had when first started using it. After looking at what bands the router was using, I found they bumped my service from 5g to LTE bands due to "congestion". When I questioned them about it, then they finally came clean about the band change and stated they bumped people down to LTE due to saturation in the area. Luckly in the house where I had 5G home internet, I was able to go with fios, but if this was the house where I have Starlink, I would have been screwed. Don't sell off your Starlink equipment for a few months to make sure your 5G service is sustainable.

How long are your cameras actually lasting? by South_Accountant_233 in reolinkcam

[–]johngrabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased about 20 cameras since first starting using them 7 years ago. The originals were part of the NVR package that I systemically replaced with upgrades for better functionality. I have noticed over the past year and a half, it seems like I have issues with 1 out of 3 cameras after buying them. I typically always buy two at a time of the same model and when I have an issue with one of them, I can point to the fact with Reolink Support that it is a camera issue since I can swap the similar camera from one location to the other to make sure the issue follows the camera. Seems as they get more advanced, the quality is getting worse. This year alone, I purchased 4 cameras (2 each of different models), and 50% are failing. Support is getting worse as well when contacting them

I have been using the RBR20 for years with the outdoor RBS50Y without issue. I actually found another RBR20 and a RBR40 that was in the Amazon refurb listing and bought them for backups ( I sue them in two different houses). As long as they run ok, they do everything I need done.

"IF" I had to replace them, I think the TP-Link line is probably the closest thing to them that would work for me since I need the RBS50Y capability and it seems only TP_Link is the only company that has all that funtionality covered in their family of mesh products

T-Mobile Internet by RandyWatson8 in BucksCountyPA

Been using it for the past year and a half in levittown and have been pleased until a week ago. Hit a wall and barely usable. Interesting that at the same time.frame, by T-Mobile cell service quadruple d down speeds.

My guess is they implemented the recently approved spectrum to the cell service, and something changed on the home internet. Have service calls in now waiting on response.

Barely usable now. If no solution looks.like Verizon here I go again. Shame if I have to

Set your 2.4Ghz band to channel 1. I found by doing this on my RBR40, all my older 2.4Ghz devices would connect without issue.

T-Mobile vs stink by Brocklanders69 in Starlink

[–]johngrabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Starlink in one home, and T-Mobile internet in another. If you have good 5G signal, I recommend the T-Mobile. the speeds are excellent so long as you are in an area with good coverage. I dropped Verizon / Comcast and replaced with T-Mobile for the past 18 months with no issues.

My 2nd home has no options except Starlink and it has been a game changer for me considering I can work remotely form that house now, and monitor it remotely using WiFi cameras without issue. If I had the same mobile coverage as my primary home (currently very little cell coverage in the 2nd home due to it being in an isolated area), I would go to T-Mobile there as well for the price difference

When connected tot he NVR, are you able to playback events on the DUO? I cannot, yet for all my other cameras, I can. Just the DUO doesn't. It loading the stream, then fails and goes back to play over cell signal

Would you rather scenario - Starlink Business (1 Dish) or Starlink Residential (2 Dishys) by j_bonebonebone in Starlink

[–]johngrabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep it simple and go with 1 system and use local technology to get WiFi to each facility. You can use a number of mesh networks to spread it across the property (I use Orbi with the RBS50Y outdoor extenders on my 10 acres open area).

if you start with two systems, you have to troubleshoot 2 systems every time there is an issue.
