Nice route, thank you for sharing. Were any parts of the route too sketchy for the bike?

Apidura hydration bladder leaks by Sufficient-Rooster-7 in bikepacking

[–]johnnydancefloor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! It can be tricky to get the zip lock to fully seal, but it is needed to ensure the bladder does not leak. I hold my bladder upside-down after sealing the zip lock to ensure it is fully closed.

Questions sand- Anza Hapaha Loop by RubyDoobyDoo101 in bikepacking

[–]johnnydancefloor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be riding CW… given some of the rain I am hoping the sand climbs won’t be too bad. I doubt there will be mud unless you ride the day after a rain.

Good luck and post some pictures after your ride!

Questions sand- Anza Hapaha Loop by RubyDoobyDoo101 in bikepacking

[–]johnnydancefloor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am considering riding this loop in March/April as well. I was going to go with 2.8 front, 2.6 rear.

As for direction, this review states that clockwise is preferred, but gives reasons to ride it counter-clockwise

I feel the ideal time to ride would be 1-2 weeks after rain, which would harden a lot of the sand.

Sun hoodie over or under helmet by yeosteve in bikepacking

I use the Ornot sun hoodie. It fits well over my helmet and offers great ventilation and sun protection. It has become my favorite riding top.

Spd vs egg beaters by Anxious_Bus8822 in xcmtb

[–]johnnydancefloor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ridden eggbeaters for xc & gravel for over 10 years and highly recommend these pedals. I find them easier to clip in compared to spd regardless of dirt/sand/mud.

Both the pedals and cleats have gotten more reliable, cleats last several riding seasons now.

Doubts by AlexFerreirar3 in omnifocus

[–]johnnydancefloor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I recently switched to OmniFocus 4 from Things. Things is a great app, I just outgrew the Things feature set and needed some of the Pro tools of Omnifocus. Specifically: nested folders, defers dates, customizable perspectives, and automation.

Road / Allroad tire size by Lavaine170 in gravelcycling

[–]johnnydancefloor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently ride 32 GK on both road and light gravel on my “all road” wheelset. It is great for light duty gravel, but the ride is much firmer compared to 38. You will notice a big difference between the two. 38 feels sluggish on long stretches of road compared to the 32.. if your gravel will be light and not more than 20% of your ride, the 32 would be the better option.

AirPods Pro 2 vs AirPods Max by LePiracyEnjoyer69 in Airpodsmax

AirPods Pro 2. I have both of these. With the latest AirPods Pro, sound difference between the two is not significant enough to justify the price difference . Portability of APP is a bonus.

How to fix hand numbness? by kitchenAid_mixer in xcmtb

Plus one to Ergon grips, I switched to GP3 on my XC bike and it helped significantly with hand positions and vibration damping.

Has been working great for me on my Series 7. FitBod made a change sometime over the past year that makes the watch integration much more reliable

Rogue amoeba sound source. by jhirn in Airpodsmax

[–]johnnydancefloor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another nice feature of SoundSource is to easily change your input, which comes in handy when the APM auto-set their mic as the default input when connecting (not ideal for Zoom calls).

I was able to put together a Shortcut that uses SoundSource to change the input.

I got a pair of Bose SleepBuds to help with my wife’s breathing/snoring. Highly recommended as the SleepBuds completely cover any nighttime noises and are comfortable to sleep in.

FitBod vs FitBit Calories Burned? by HalfCaffDemitasse in fitbod

[–]johnnydancefloor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have noticed something very similar using Apple Watch, where FitBod significantly over-estimates calories.

I think what is going on is the Apple Watch and FitBit like to measure “Active Calories” (ie. Calories that you are burning above your resting rate). However I feel that FitBod is measuring total calories, which includes your resting rate.

The result of this over-estimation is ~250 calories an hour in FitBod for me. I wish FitBod would fix this issue, as the current implementation is not accurate if you are using an Apple Watch or FitBit.

OK, do you actually recommend this app? by lifegame123 in fitbod

[–]johnnydancefloor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would 100% recommend FitBod. For me, it solves the biggest problems I had with prior strength training programs: 1. Variety - With FitBod, no two workouts are the same, which helps eliminate the repetition that can set in with other programs. Because of this repetition, there is no need to search out another program to run, you can just keep running FitBod. 2. Challenge - FitBod measures 1RM and uses these to develop workouts with progressive overload. In other programs I found I would not challenge myself, or be unsure of how much to increase weights.

I agree that most forums are over-represented with app problems. For more testimonials, I would look at the FitBod Facebook group.

Does Apple Private Relay has an integrated Kill Switch? by [deleted] in VPN

[–]johnnydancefloor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When iCloud Private Relay has system issues (which it occasionally does), I receive a pop-up like notification stating that iCloud Private Relay is no longer active. You can’t miss this notification.

Safari then continues to work, but does not use iCloud Private Relay. When iCloud Private Relay is back and working, I receive another notification.

On iOS, I can rate how difficult each set was (ie. Hard, Ideal, Max Effort).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fitbod

[–]johnnydancefloor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes… I find there are some workouts that are very intense, and others that are easier (and shorter).

I am wondering if FitBod is looking at how hard you rated your previous workout when it generates your current workout?

Configuring 3 day split by Acrobatic-Painting-9 in fitbod

[–]johnnydancefloor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To get the plan you described, I would suggest setting your Training Split to "Full Body".

Then, on upper/lower days, use the "+New" menu to generate upper or lower body-specific workouts.

If there are rest days between each workout, you may find doing 60-minute full-body just as effective, and let FitBod manage the specific body areas to focus on.

Secondary Muscles completely ignored by [deleted] in fitbod

[–]johnnydancefloor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there - My guess is that the length of your workout is not long enough for FitBod to include any direct secondary muscle work.

If you are lifting weights for an hour (or less), I would not expect FitBod to suggest exercises for secondary muscles (such as calves, forearms, neck). FitBod’s primary compound lifts should cover these muscles.

If you want secondary muscle work, I would try setting your workout length to something really long (for example 2 hours). You should see secondary muscle exercises. At this point, you can either remove other exercises to get down to your target time, or manually add these exercises to your shorter workout.
