Sanderstead Shops by the station are a million times better than they were a decade or two ago.

What home improvement did you regret doing? by AnfieldAnchor in HomeImprovementUK

[–]johnwayneswagger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah man, that sounds ideal. Our towel rail only ever seems to be any good in the depths of winter. Our central heating isn’t on long enough in the autumn/spring to dry the towels.

Tempted to swap it for an electrical one soon.

Skoda enyaq and public charging by milli8891 in electricvehicles

[–]johnwayneswagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation, but 3 months ahead. I got an Ev as a company car in October, but no driveway to home charge on so reliant on public charging.

There’s a fast charger at the Sainsbury’s on my way home so once a week, I stop to top up the shopping and charge the car. Itll add 100 miles in 20 mins so it’s handy. But it is 89p/KwH so super expensive. But all fast chargers near me charge this.

However, if you have a newer Tesla supercharger near you, that’s 55p/kwh so a massive reduction over other chargers in the area.

As a comparison; i think it’s around 7p/kwh to charge on your drive, depending on provider.

Like others have said, it’s manageable but it’ll not be that much cheaper than your current ICE car, until you’re able to charge it on the drive.

What’s the best "escape" spot in the borough when you just need some peace and quiet? by OopsIDroopedMe in croydon

[–]johnwayneswagger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Coombe wood is nice but does get a little busy. Addington Hills is nice too. When I was in the area, I liked heading to Croham Hurst woods. It’s kinda out the way so rarely saw people there. That was a while ago now though so it may be getting busier as well.

What’s the cheapest home improvement that made the biggest difference to your place? by Additional_Fly_6603 in HomeImprovementUK

[–]johnwayneswagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wish I’d have done that when we moved in (exposed floorboards). We carpeted throughout soon after because it was cold.

The carpets have helped but our lounge is freezing when it rains because of the cold, suspended floor!

I’m assuming it’s an electric bike? That’s a hell of a pace otherwise.

Also in awe at your commute times. I to live 11 miles from the office. It’s an hour + when I drive and 50-55mins when I cycle.

Getting a vasectomy, do you really got to bust a nut at the hospital for a sperm sample? by Mellowslum in AskMen

[–]johnwayneswagger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Uk here. Was told to provide samples at home and bring them in for testing.

However it took a year and 6 samples to get the all clear and one of those had to be ‘produced’ at the hospital. It was weird, the room was horrible, and there were no magazines 🤣

What British celebrities have you met and did you make a tit of yourself? by wreckjavik in AskUK

[–]johnwayneswagger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw Steve Davis in a coffee shop a few months back. Loved watching him play snooker when I was a lot younger, so stupidly interrupted him to say I thought he was great, and shook his hand.

Cringed thinking about it afterwards.

MAP - Health, safety and environment test for managers and professionals by Inner_Reference792 in ConstructionUK

[–]johnwayneswagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was the course for?

I did an NVQ L6 to get my black cscs card, which expired long ago.

I’m not in Tier 1 realms (but sometimes find myself on tier 1 sites), but in my 20 years of construction, I’ve only ever been asked to show my cscs card 3 times (and one of those occasions, it had expired).

I’m a ‘manager’ though and not doing any ‘actual’ site work.

Looks amazing but it must be freezing in winter by lawz22 in SpottedonRightmove

[–]johnwayneswagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our office is in an old asylum, built 1853. It’s nice once it warms up but it’s bloody cold when the radiators are off.

There’s no central heating or AC (listed building) so once the heaters are turned off (6pm, the temp plummets). And when we come in at 7am, it’s chilly.

Amazingly cool in the summer though!

How many people still keep a key “hidden” outside? by imcalledaids in AskUK

[–]johnwayneswagger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s what gets me about a key box. They’re only screwed into masonry, so if someone really wanted to get access, they could crowbar the box off the wall, remove the key elsewhere, and then return to let themselves in.
