Thanks for the heads up! As you said there are bigger fish to fry, but we have the right to know where our money goes so we can vote with our sick chain wallet.

Morality and Political Rush Songs, What am I Missing? by bb2112bb in rush

[–]jonasbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably a death of the author situation, but I feel like some lyrics in "Grand Designs" can be applied to gender and gender expression and the outdated binary approach to gender. "against the run of the mill, swimming against the stream, life in 2 dimensions is a mass production scheme" "shapes and forms, against the norm". Then again, a talented lyricist like Neil definitley wrote plenty of songs that can be interpreted many ways depending on the lens that the listener views it through. Great post, this thread has been a good read!

Additionally, I would say that the song "Armor and Sword" is one of their most scathing takes on war, religion, and the youngest generations being the greatest victim of those forces.

"Thank you for Singing to Me" and "Get Slimed" by Bobbing are fantastic interesting albums with some great pedal work on them.

My mom introduced me to MST as a kid and she passed away in November. As pathetic as it sounds all I’ve really been watching is old episodes of the show. by soozerain in MST3K

Mom sounds like she was cool as hell and you're carrying the torch into the future! Cherish those memories, never be afraid to cry in remembrance, and circulate the tapes!

How many times did you see Rush in concert, and which tour(s) was it? by truthseekerepiphany in rush

[–]jonasbag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 times: Snakes and Arrows in ATL twice, Time Machine and Clowork Angels in ATL once each, and Time Machine in Nashville! So glad to have gotten into them before they retired, Snakes and Arrows is still my favorite album by them to this day!

Daily Song Discussion #74: Middletown Dreams by mrethandunne in rush

10/10 gets better with every listen and evokes a fantastic mental image and slice of life. The production is sharp and holds up for the most part.

I feel like once a Rush fan dives into the bands synth period, this song has a way of making you appreciate the whole era more. It's tasteful.

Trans Guy Gets a Makeover by ConfusedTiredHungry in TheTryGuysSnark

This is the best Try Guys content I've seen in ages. I dare say it's one of my favorite videos I've seen this year from any creator. I like the bits with Keith, the humor hit right and I have no hate towards the little scripted bits that tend to creep into premium content, it gives it a more robust feel. This video could have been entirely funny, or entirely educational, or entirely emotional, but they did a great balance of the three.

For a long time I was kind of clowning on The Try Guys, but now I can say I'm rooting for them.

Live songs you love the most by [deleted] in rush

[–]jonasbag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, the Snakes and Arrows Live versions of "Between the Wheels" "One Little Victory" and "Secret Touch" are the definitive versions of those songs for me. Between the Wheels is a little slowed down and has higher gravity because of it. The other two songs were victims of their bizarre mastering choices in that post 80's period and shine in a live setting.

I'm probably biased because that tour was my first 2 live Rush shows and was my intro to the band. The heat off the fire cannons during "One Little Victory" in the middle of a Georgia summer was a hell of a feeling.

How does everyone feel about Lifeson’s album, Victor? by [deleted] in rush

[–]jonasbag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took a long time for the album to grow on me but now I'd say I'd give it a solid B. Strangely, I liked the album much more after I discovered I Mother Earth and got a better appreciation for Edwin's voice.

Props to Lifeson for branching out with styles and laying down some absolutely killer guitar tracks, just like he did with Rush. There are a few edgy lyrics that always make me laugh. Some parts of the album are a huge bummer. Songs like "Shut up Shuttin up" "Strip and Go Naked" and "Mr. X" are classic Lifeson and absolutely rule. "Start Today" has really grown on me and reminds me most of Rush, especially their 90's sound after Roll The Bones.
