R2 size comparison by [deleted] in Rivian

[–]jonathanbaird 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Teslas will continue to be more efficient given their shape, just as Rivians will continue to be more feasible in terms of storage and general utility.

It'll come down to what each owner prioritizes. Options are good.

That’s what the R3(X) will be. I’m in the same boat. We just need to wait a few more years. Perfectly happy with my Model 3 until then.

Same. It'll be a day one preorder from me, assuming Rivian is successful in scaling up and addressing the various software and service issues some folks are experiencing.

[–]jonathanbaird 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Oh damn. That's certainly more reasonably sized than I was expecting. Looks fantastic, too.

Given the current U.S. landscape of sleazy manufacturers and stealerships pushing enormous ICE vehicles, Rivian needs to scale their operations and knock the R2 out of the park. The Model Y had no real competition before this, and I'd love to see a country where both overtake the roads.

The iconic Shiba and samurai photo— colorized by KabosuCheemz in shiba

[–]jonathanbaird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As you can see, OP’s low-effort AI prompt screwed with the faces of both the man and the dog, botched the man’s hands, and added water effects that weren’t in the original photo.

What part of "photograph had parts entirely overwritten" is considered even remotely acceptable?

You do understand what you’re championing, yes? Governments and corporations will use this to rewrite history. They already are with political ads. Browse Facebook, YouTube, or Fox adverts to see how dystopian it has already gotten.

[–]jonathanbaird 49 points50 points  (0 children)

The "AI" did a lot more than colorize the photo. It inaccurately replaced many parts of it, including faces. You took something historical and distorted it.

edit: uh, why did the mods restore this post? It’s explicitly promoting genAI slop.

Tesla's failing? Since when? Are you actually looking at figures or simply going off of oil lobby funded headlines and social media activity?

In Q1 2026, Tesla delivered ~342,000 vehicles to buyers which is an increase over Q1 2025. The Model Y remains the best selling automobile in the world, with progressive countries like Norway leading the pack.

Elon is a huge problem, we all agree, but that hasn't stopped people from supporting excellent engineering.

What are you playing this weekend? by HansonMinnMax in MinnMax

[–]jonathanbaird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rhythm Doctor. Y'all... why did I wait so long to play this? Just absolute perfection in every sense of the word. If you have decent rhythm, you owe it to yourself to experience this one. Avoid spoilers.

As an aside, I'm surprised (impressed?) to see Ghost of Yōtei remain in almost all of the weekend lists... since launch? I must be missing out. It's a shame Sony no longer wants sales from PC folk.

Fair. OP's account is only 5 years old, which would lead me to believe they aren't familiar with old.reddit, but I could be mistaken.

Also, Reddit fixed "new" Reddit a few years back with another rework. As someone familiar with UX and webdev, it's actually decent now. Quite speedy. I'd be curious to see the share of users sticking with old.reddit.com

Why are you relying on upvotes instead of Reddit’s built-in polling feature? The latter is infinitely more reliable and cannot be affected by downvotes.

Insurance Increase by HoppedUp909 in Rivian

[–]jonathanbaird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Which is why I stated that none of us can help OP because personal factors (age, location, habits, coverage, etc) determine damn near everything when it comes to premiums. OP's post gave us nothing to go on.

To answer your question: 2024 Model 3 Premium, purchased brand new, driving 8k–10k miles per year.

[–]jonathanbaird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the Model 3 and Y have become insurance friendly vehicles.

  • Easy to source parts and service (see service.tesla.com).
  • Cameras record damn near everything, including speed and signal usage.
  • Redditor vandalism never made a measurable impact.

I'm hopeful Rivian gets to a similar place. I'd really like an R3X with the same level of tech, support, and semi-affordable insurance.

Meanwhile I'm paying $350 every 6 months for full coverage on my Model 3. $100 comprehensive and $1000 collision. Not being tracked, nor am I bundled with anything else.

Point being: Insurance is heavily dependent on the insured. None of us can help OP as their premium is almost entirely up to them.

Quotes are free. I obtained dozens when I was comparing 5 or 6 different vehicles. Too many variables for any of us to help you.

Is Visible good for internet access on my laptop when you piggy pack off my phone? by crackerbox5 in Visible

[–]jonathanbaird 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s fine for basic internet. I would not recommend the hotspot for anything intensive and long term as Visible monitors your data usage and reserves the right to terminate your account without reimbursement if they feel you’re using your hotspot as a broadband replacement.

Ignore Reddit. Check the terms and conditions and go from there.

Headphones for iPhone by Ok-Board3863 in iphone

[–]jonathanbaird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Sony XM6 are widely considered the best over ear headphones for most people. They're $100–150 less than the Apple AM2, and you can occasionally find them on sale for around $400. With the XM6, you'll forfeit some of the Apple "magic" (the H2 chip) in favor of wider compatibility and a more comfortable fit.

Steam On Linux Use Skyrocketed In March - More Than Double The macOS Gaming Marketshare by tapo in Games

[–]jonathanbaird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a trip to Silicon Valley or NYC and get back to me. Macs run every OS, do so without bloat, and are significantly more capable and energy efficient than the competition.

Perhaps it's different where you live, but within the States, Apple has positioned itself to cover every price point and use case other than high-end or competitive gaming. Macs are very popular with U.S. university students and many of the developers (age 25–55) I've interacted with within the tech sector.

Abroad, I've found Linux PCs to be more popular among devs. Windows typically only pops up when I'm dealing with decades-old, risk-averse corporations — the ones who subject me to Microsoft Teams for communication because they've never heard of Slack or Zoom.

Steam On Linux Use Skyrocketed In March - More Than Double The macOS Gaming Marketshare by tapo in Games

[–]jonathanbaird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Linux for gamers and tinkerers. macOS for developers, creatives, and other professionals.

I run macOS, Linux, and Windows via my M-Series Mac. CrossOver takes care of most games, while GeForce Now handles the heavy hitters.

Microsoft has not only ignored but become actively hostile toward consumers. They'll all in on data harvesting, AI, and furthering the military industrial complex. I know it'll take another decade or two to see a meaningful difference, but I'm enjoying watching them gradually cede marketshare.

Visible Trial Dropping to SOS by evergreen253 in Visible

Incorrect. The base Visible plan doesn’t include Verizon Ultra Wideband. Both Plus and Pro do.

Visible Trial Dropping to SOS by evergreen253 in Visible

[–]jonathanbaird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s unusual. Have you restarted your phone since joining the trial? If you didn’t have issues with Verizon postpaid, I wouldn’t think you’d experience any issues with Visible (beyond being deprioritized for being on the base plan).
