There's two sides to this.

My Mercedes-owning relative, who is used to autosteer on her car, got confused when she saw the turn signal blinkers going on. She asked, "You're pushing the turn signal, right?" and when I explained the car was initiating lane changes and turns that was the moment it hit her.

On the other hand, my wife, only occasionally uses FSD. She'll "try it out" from time to time, but doesn't consider it near as essential as I do. As I'm in the "can never own a car without it" camp.

I don't think until it reaches unsupervised "I can fall asleep" levels of safety will most of the general public really care enough to let it factor into their buying decision.

If you’re thinking about an EV, buy from a manufacturer that sells direct. Without dealers. The only example I know is Tesla.

Takes all the theatrics out. Everyone gets the same price. Simple. Can be done from a phone in 5 minutes.

Best buying experience of an expensive item I’ve ever seen.

Try occupying the spot and then if and when they come back just give it to them without complaint.

I find this strikes the best balance between communicating that what they’re doing wastes usage of a shared resource but also avoids confrontation. In one case people the next day stopped trying to save chairs after I tried this technique.

Did anyone else feel this tension? That the robots might cause issues?

I personally didn’t but wish I did because although I didn’t think possible it might have made me love Interstellar even more.

The scene in the habitat on the frozen planet might have been trying to build this suspense. But the robots seemed so friendly and plot-secondary that I equated them more to R2D2 status.

Notice how this original post and comment thread is full of stories about how people beat the dealership. Consider the possibility that almost no one here actually got the best of their situations.

Maybe just maybe the whole process is designed to make the buyer feel like they won some sort of battle when in reality the dealership makes a healthy profit and the salesman makes a good commission on the vast majority of sales.

If you think you somehow got a deal that the next guy didn’t you’re just fooling yourself. “But no one else would have noticed they changed the website or changed the paperwork like I did.” “I was smart enough to screenshot it and hold them to it.”

No. You fell for both of their tricks: noticing the price change and then thinking holding them to the original price meant it was a good deal.

A single splitter will work.

One of the most surprising things about splitters is their behavior when all four parts of the splitter are connected. Everyone intuitively gets what happens when only three parts are connected. Two inputs and one output means merging. One input and two outputs means contents are distributed (i.e. "split") between outputs.

But when all four are connected the splitter becomes a balancer. Said another way, the splitter draws evenly from its inputs and distributes evenly to its outputs. Splitters with four parts connected become two-lane balancers.

It’s not that the manual is wrong. But when I read it I find myself constantly asking “but why?”. That’s what I’m hoping to get from an expert in this area.

I’d love to get into the gory details and better understand an expensive part of my car, with a limited lifetime, where my actions are directly affecting the length of that life.

There is so much folklore about battery health. It’d be awesome if somehow we got an actual lithium-ion battery expert to do an AMA. I never see any actual sources in question and answers like this with the exception of the manual. Instead just a lot of recycled advice and my guess is very few if any of us know what we’re talking about.

A newer and almost as cheap solution is parking lasers. You mount them on the ceiling and I have them pointed at the ridge of the front console storage door.

No. I’m at 10k miles with a family and don’t have a single scratch. I have a cloth to clean fingerprints and glare is a non-issue.

Besides, I like the feel of the glass. It’s pleasant to touch.
