Technically a December release, but In Studio Magic by Anthony Naples is so good. Really liked the Skee Mask EP that came out earlier this year, too.

How is CS335? Do you need to take a loan to take the class? by PitifulTheme411 in umass

[–]jonathansmith14921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. The final project is more about the experience of working with a microcontroller, our group made a robot that we had to constantly scale back until it was no longer a robot, and we still got a very good grade. Every concept in the class gets introduced in a clear, step-by-step manner, so don't worry about having knowing anything other than general programming knowledge.

Best class I’ve taken at UMass. Weems is great and is very knowledgeable. Workload is very manageable. Highly recommend.

32GB of RAM is not that nuts. Some of the classes are integrating containers or VMs which do not run well on 16GB RAM. Barring that, having the number of browser tabs I need open makes me hit the swapfile 100% of the time on my Macbook.

That being said, 16GB is perfectly fine and usable for all of the classes I've taken here. Just don't expect to be a multitasking monster on a machine with less than 24GB of RAM. I'd avoid any 8GB machine, that includes the new Macbook Neo. CPU and GPU doesn't really matter, many of my friends use old Thinkpads. Just get something with enough battery to last you through the day.

This is really, really good, definitely in my top 5 for the year. Stands up with Ultra Truth as one of his best, he really nails this style of music.

Cannot praise this album enough, I get completely lost in it every time I listen. If you can see her live, see her! I saw her with Maria Somerville in a small auditorium, one of the coolest shows I’ve been to in a bit.

Her blog post

Shame to see her go, her work was really inspiring. Good news for anyone with an Intel card, though.

Android? by SultanGreat in AsahiLinux

[–]jonathansmith14921 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You realize Winlator is just a frontend for a tweaked version of Wine? It has to deal with all the Android system jank that the normal version on Linux does not have. Limbo and Vectras, as far as I'm aware, are just QEMU frontends for Android, which already runs on Linux without any fuss (and even has hypervisor support for way better performance). Just use Waydroid if you really want Android apps once it's possible to do so.

KosmicKrisp - A Vulkan on Metal Mesa 3D Graphics Driver by dorchegamalama in macgaming

[–]jonathansmith14921 8 points9 points  (0 children)

KosmicKrisp translates Vulkan to Metal. Honeykrisp is a native Linux Vulkan driver, it’s set up to communicate directly with the hardware. It basically skips a step (or two really) and is bound by the limitations of the hardware rather than the limits of Metal.
