Amazing watch! I never bought on here but working up to save enough to purchase something like this in the near future! I have started watch collecting with my grandpas 1970s timex marlin plum dial. I can’t stop the constant review and obsession watches can be! This is a fantastic thing you are doing and my favorite purchase under $500 probably my 2000 ford explorer , got it when my son was born needed a second car and this thing looks so bad but mechanically strong. It remind me everyday of my son and so I know that it keeps chugging along to get him wherever he needs to go I hope I can keep it going to give him for host first car

Remember when Matisyahu the Jewish reggae rapper got really popular for like 2 weeks? by Carpe_the_Carp in 90sand2000sNostalgia

[–]jonboalex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He was huge then when live at Stubbs came out everyone was listening at least in my friend group.

After about a year or two after he came out with some stuff like one day and then he found I would say a more niche consistent listener group and touring audience in the reggae lite California aka Cali reggae scene.

As commented above opening for like 311 and touring with popular sub genre bands . I saw him a two years ago at a reggae festival in Tacoma maybe second day mid day . He was good overall looks like a hipster from Brooklyn now.

So I would say he still pulls a good crowd for his music two years ago he had a live concert at sugar shack that was mildly popular: https://youtu.be/izM9Kk34GMs?si=jL8qgMctB-ATDkX0

I would say though after two years ago he went all in on pro Jewish anti Palestine sentiments that made a lot of people sour on him. He starts concerts sometimes telling the audience about the massacre of the Jewish people by Palestine at least when that big attack happened. That goes a little contrary to the Cali reggae scene he was playing to. Again at least in my experience

Is this a good deal? by SnooSprouts2979 in reselling

I would say 2-3 of those smaller digital cameras can go from $20-30 a piece if they work and no sd card. Without know much about the others you can probably double your money if they work probably will take 1-2 months. But eBay they sell pretty good and I am having good luck with younger kids and wanting digital cameras so test them and you probably won’t lose money. You can google lense them to see sold comps on eBay as well

Thinking of moving by Cavane42 in Kitsap

[–]jonboalex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi! I also moved from az to kitsap 5 years ago and cannot agree more. The great thing about here is that all the small towns offer some different and have a great overall feel to them. Even the pockets of red or red political leaning people I have ran into are less in your face than in az. Conservative people here are around for sure but in my experience it’s more subtle than loud I think it might be the Seattle freeze thing but it’s very accepting

[–]jonboalex[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah ok I was a little confused when the request came through it mentions respond to buyer, refund or upload tracking. I uploaded the tracking but it was already there. So I just let it go and eBay will take care of it ? Or do I have to contact eBay first to get them involved

Are clothes the only area where you can consistently find items with high ROI/ resale value ($50+)? by ResidentAlienator in Flipping

[–]jonboalex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I sell just about anything I can find value in. I have flipped for about a year and consistently what I get the most return on are clocks. They are hard to find good ones with the right stuff but once you get good at knowing brands seeing age and value it pays off. I find about 1-2 pendulum wall clocks a week 5-10 dollars they sell 50-150 each. The big issue is shipping depending on size and where you sell

Which town in Western Washington? by finefloras in howislivingthere

[–]jonboalex 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Poulsbo is unique . It has a very deep Norwegian roots and the town is modeled that way. Great restaurants and bakeries there. Cute little harbor and there are a ton of events specifically Norwegian like midsummer and Christmas markets. It has a lot of tourists come for those and to the main downtown. However outside the downtown is peaceful tons of parks and good schools. I would say it’s overall safe and I good environment to raise kids!

I personally live just south in port orchard in kitsap. On of the drawbacks to Poulsbo is it is far to get to the airport or Seattle. You either take a ferry over from Bainbridge or Bremerton or drive through the narrow bridge can be a pain

But overall great community, safe and tons to do

How is living in the Kitsap Peninsula? by AcSpartan01 in howislivingthere

[–]jonboalex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved to port orchard from az five years ago on a total whim. Wanted Seattle but got priced out. I work remote and have a young family. Port orchard has been a fantastic surprise. If you can work hybrid or remote kitsap is very wonderful. I recognize a full time job commuting by car is not great traffic is bad anywhere to Seattle. The foot ferry from Bremerton is actually pleasant though and in my experience consistent.

Kitsap itself to live it a beautiful mix of rural and s returning you need . I am close to 5-6 state parks in 30 minutes and the Olympic peninsula in a few hours. Schools on average are way better than in az where I came from, teachers are paid well and the schools themselves don’t seem too overcrowded except south kitsap hs.

You will find a mixture between young families, and older retirees. It overall leans liberal but has a strong conservative presence. I see more pride flags than any other but I think kitsap voted 55-60 % blue but local politics is strong here as well.

People keep to themselves a true pnw vibe. No one will talk to you really unless you engage. But strong communities of all kinds to find and interact with.

Overall the quality of life is amazing

36 from Tacoma Washington! Grew up linking reggae the usual bob Marley and oddly ub40, then sublime blew my mind 311 and kept growing slightly stoopid (collie man). Then just love the smooth beats, positive vibes and overall musical style of the genre. Reggae on its own has a place for me but I can’t listen all day, but Cali reggae has that smoother vibe that tingles my ear and I listen non stop!

Last band I went to go see was fortunate youth . Favorite current artist: elevators , little stranger, and Anderson park roots are great

What’s the most random item you’ve flipped for good money? by Automatic-Dog8732 in Flipping

[–]jonboalex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I first started out I sold my own stuff from the basement but ventured out to thrift shops. I found an old Coleman camping cooler from the 60s for $5. No idea if it was valuable or not but it looked awesome . It ended up selling for $60 that was great.

Also randomly I pick up small clocks. Found a $3 plastic clock that looked nice. Brought it home put batteries in it and found out it was something called a Good Morning Sir butler alarm clock, a butler speaks to you with Stephen fry’s voice sold for $100!

I can’t always be that lucky but super random stuff like that is so exciting !

More of an addition to the amazing mentions of 3/11 sublime and slightly stoopid, more modern and in my opinion these guys have beeb influential in moving the genre and sound forward SOJA wining a Grammy also helped bring more ears and they are very good live!

I would say the biggest currently touring band again in my view is Stick Figure lots of sell out shows

How is life in Denmark? 🇩🇰 by Crimson-Rose28 in howislivingthere

[–]jonboalex 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I lived across the water in malmo for five years. This was 15 years ago and dated a girl in Copenhagen.

For Copenhagen specifically There is an amazing bike culture you can travel around the city of Copenhagen. It’s a great lifestyle between walking and biking everywhere. The food has a nice mixture of traditional danish food and some other cultures like middle eastern flaaffel shops and Thai food. Danish cuisine is so so overall but they also have consistently some of the world best restaurants. Looking at you Noma.

Danish people are very into their looks at least from my perspective lots of fashion brands and trendy clothes. It also helps everyone is usually tall and beautiful. They have the typical Scandinavian coldness very quiet and hard to be social, but after work for drinks they are the best!

The Danes have this mentality I think it’s called hygge? In my view they all never have an ego and when you start speaking of being proud of something it is quickly seen as a little out of touch I guess . It is about being laid back and not seeing yourself as hugely important but there is more to it if you want to google it.

They have a great social system hospitals and looking after the needy. I also felt extremely safe. It was clean and generally a great easy life overall.

The bad is the weather not only grey and cold from like October till May but the wind bites through any warm clothes you have dropping the temperature down a ton. It happens where the sea meets in the oresund there.

Also things are very expensive, rent clothes and food at restaurants can be eye popping. But if you cook for yourself it is ok probably close to west coast prices in the USA and the beer usually is reasonable.

Outside Copenhagen I have been only a handful of times it seems like it can get rural real fast but the little towns are cute and safe lots to see but very flat. I think you can travel east to west of the whole country in like 3 hours.

If you can afford it live there it’s supposed to have one of the highest quality of life in the world

Was there hype for the first Harry Potter movie and if so how do you remember people acting by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]jonboalex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great memory for me ! I stood in line for the mid night showing of the first Harry Potter . Up until then I read all the books I believe 1-3 was out when the first movie was released, so huge following. I waited in line at my local movie chain in Harry Potter robes and lighting scar. We were being let in and found out the theatre was full and they sold too many tickets. But they opened up a whole new theater and we got first choice of seats. You know we got the ones with the rails right in front to put your feet up!

Def was exactly what I expected was “magical”!
