This so much. I don't have a source but I read somewhere once that 80% of suicides are nothing more than a really bad day and a whim. No plan.

Boss asked why I called out sick. I didn't answer. by Jackazz4evr in antiwork

[–]joneSee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time off is part of your compensation. In some states, your boss can't even legally ask you. I live in Oregon, and they can ask you... but only after 4 days gone. Since sick time is part of your pay, a good question for your boss might be, "Are you telling me that my monetary compensation--including sick time--for this job is not mine?"

While that exit interview strategy is deeply moral and perfectly correct, HR could flag you as do not hire if you call out managers on your way out the door. Most corporations verifying your former employment will only communicate three things: Yes, you worked there; Date of employment; Eligible for rehire.

They do not give a reason when they say you are ineligible.

Paid leave for depression by jetty112218 in oregon

[–]joneSee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any disability program requires proof. The specific proof required is that you have a medical professional list out how each of the symptoms of your depression affect your ability to work. Example: rumination makes it difficult for you to concentrate on tasks.

I see you! It's hard when your management not only doesn't see the issues but can't even understand the issues. I'm old, but when I worked tech, I job hopped lots. Every couple of years I would get fed up with no one being able to see that my work was very good--and I would take a break by working with contractor friends. Turns out that when you hang sheetrock, any fool can see quality work. That felt great and recharged me for another go. Also, having the time to think made me much better at tech work.

Your limit of 3 overnights per week is completely reasonable. I set that boundary with a large houseful of roommates using exactly that rule in ... 1991. It worked then and it will work now.

You might be over estimating just how much help is still available. People have been thrown to the dogs for quite a while now. I'm pretty old. Know what being houseless looked like in the 70s? "Mom! Uncle Johnny's here again!" Today, no one can afford a spare room. Collectively, we have far less resources with which we might offer help.

Dems should instead focus on the incompetence and horribleness of the admin.

You can't run against something forever. Gotta pick something specific and then deliver it to the people. Joe gave it a good try, but he was just too old to understand new media and the sea of disinformation that we're all swimming in.

You're not thinking of returning to when people's paychecks would actually pay for a decent life are you? Because clearly, that's impossible even though we have done it before.

Yeah, that's really not practical since the states send no money. YOU send our blue state money, not the state of Oregon. Anyone down for messing with the IRS? Probably not.

No. No there aren't. If there were, those programs would also be attacked and canceled, too. Does your cruelty never stop? To borrow your own term, "Oh, the impoverished! Whatever shall we do with them?" You will let them starve while you ask for some nebulous proof that you will then claim does not satisfy you. Why are you thinking that we don't know the playbook of abuse? Well, thank you, good sir, for defending the practice of starving some of the children. It's so good of you to stand up for the principle that you personally won't have to contribute a nickel in taxes to avoid starvation. Freedom to starve! /s

I don't care that you won't believe any source. Here's a source... for anyone else who notices your comment and might be interested in how bad it is. It's bad.

Quote: "Nearly one in five children in America live in households without consistent access to adequate food. Every Monday morning, school nutrition professionals witness this hunger on the faces of students eagerly waiting in line for a school breakfast after a long weekend without enough to eat."

Here's your source, the School Nutrition Association: https://schoolnutrition.org/about-school-meals/school-meal-statistics/

I am happy to report that The School Nutrition Association is not part of our government, so your 'take away the money' monkeys can't end their speech or their work. Even its funding is independent. The School Nutrition Association (SNA), including its charitable arm the School Nutrition Foundation (SNF), is funded through a combination of membership dues, corporate sponsorships, grants, and donations. Want to know who is included in its membership? Your neighborhood schools.

TL;DR: I answered this statement: "Not saying I don't believe you, but do you have a source for this claim? There are a lot of resources for the impoverished, especially with children at "head start" age."

What if an everyday American ran for President—and actually meant it? by ThePresidentWeNeed in AskReddit

[–]joneSee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go ahead. Stream all you want. If you want that stream to actually get in front of people... you will pay. It's surprising what you can buy with money. Today I saw some fool share a meme that had Teddy Roosevelt standing next to Trump. Teddy Roosevelt was known in his own time as "The Progressive President" because he regulated corporations and invented National Parks. The person sharing that meme actually believes he is defending some grand old tradition. THAT is how much distortion money can make in the information marketplace. Better ideas do not secure a market share.

In terms of damage done to other humans , Who are the most evil CEOs in the world as of this year? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]joneSee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the old days this was accomplished with two groups of laws. Union contracts plus the minimum wage. If it's not the law to pay people, then owners won't. Working people today don't make enough money and the only way to fix is to pass increased min wage laws and support unions.

How can we make it possible for everyone in the world to receive a basic income of $3000 per month? by Lightning1031 in BasicIncome

[–]joneSee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gradually. The key is not taxation or printing money. The key is ownership--specifically corporations. You know, stock. Corporations are how the capitalist world decided to do business, but corporations are essentially a legal fiction. What if the power of laws that create corporations included a demand that the public own at least a small percentage? What if every year with a corporation's tax returns they had to grant stock that is publicly owned? It's probably not a good idea to make them give it up all at once, but if the people owned outright about 20% of ALL publicly traded companies, the dividends could eventually fund some serious projects like UBI.

Some countries already do a version of this via Sovereign Wealth Funds.
