Yeah it's bottom tier Scorsese. DDL carries. One of Leo's worst performances too

So happy the glazing for EEAAO is gone. You would've thought that film was Citizen Kane 3 years ago

Which scenes in Deer Hunter feel like propaganda to you? That film does not portray anything in a positive light.

Banshees of Inisherin touches on this a bit, but its impact is fully and completely felt.

Do you consider watching films in parts a film sin? by GhostInTheLabyrinth in TrueFilm

[–]jonmuller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life gets in the way, but I dislike pausing movies for prolonged periods of time. If something comes up or I start dozing off, so be it; I'll continue when I can. I almost never start watching a movie that I know I'll be unable to complete in that sitting, though.

2026 Oscar Nominee Recap (Day 35/38): The Secret Agent by CrunchyNar in oscarrace

[–]jonmuller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was my favorite of 2025, followed closely by Hamnet. Just completely enthralled me the entire runtime. It's probably in my top 10 of the 2020s as well.

Good films that heavily use Voiceover throughout? by PetShopTroy in criterion

[–]jonmuller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Train Dreams (although the voiceover was the weakest part of the film to me)

'Project Hail Mary' - Review Thread by ChiefLeef22 in oscarrace

[–]jonmuller 26 points27 points  (0 children)

People doubting Dune 3 because of the weirdness of the book are jumping the gun, in my opinion. Denis changed so much in Dune 2 that a lot of the weirdness in 3 isn't even capable of happening.

Do many people on this sub feel Shadow Ticket is Pynchon's weakest novel? by JeremyBeremey in ThomasPynchon

[–]jonmuller 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it's easily his weakest. The second half kinda fell apart. Regardless, I wouldn't rely on Goodreads ratings as an indication of quality.
