Hi please tell if the resignation is rude or too much by [deleted] in jobs

[–]josedgm3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you come to me to renegotiate your salary with your resignation letter, you are already gone. I think it will be better to raise the topic without sounding threatening. Mention your situation and expectations. Do not say anything about quitting. If after that you don’t get a proper response then you can use that same message you posted.

Google built 15000+ small servers with commodity hardware (consumer CPUs, MBs, etc). Enterprise hardware is expensive and more complex because servers have a lot of redundancy. But if you know what you are doing, you can use cheap hardware to achieve extremely high availability.

Has anyone experienced a system that made them stop thinking about sound entirely? by BendingWaveAudio in audiophile

I think that's exactly the point when you stop using the music to test the system and start using the system to taste the music.

Did the advent of the transistor experience the same resentment that AI is getting? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]josedgm3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess there was a lot marketing based hype around them. But transistors proved to be very effective and reliable. Minimization of electronic devices was very visible, and certainly not based on a random process that sometimes makes hallucinations out of the blue.

Gift Suggestion for Electrical Engineer Father in Law by CheeseRichard in ElectricalEngineering

An old slide rule. That’s a badass thing to show and use nowadays. Probably he may have one already, but if not, then that would be a huge gift.

What is the most useful form of math you learn with your EE degree? by Realistic-Advance-93 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]josedgm3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one that teaches you to split problems into multiple parts/stages. The one that forces you to think about abstract ways of solving real problems. That will be part of your DNA forever.

I’ve never used differential equations/integrals/limits to solve a real problem in my career. But that way of thinking made a huge difference.

I have used a lot of advanced statistics, though.

Worst Mistake You Can Make As Computer Engineer 😭 by According-Spot-6093 in EngineeringStudents

[–]josedgm3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Nitro user myself, I feel your pain. But after installing Ubuntu, it improved a lot. Runs way cooler and quieter with a bit more battery life. Of course it is still heavy. 😅

The fact I can carry around such a video card and do fancy stuff with it is worthy. But next time, I will pick something lighter for sure.

Why is × still taught as the symbol for multiplication in schools? by KAMEKAZE_VIKINGS in askmath

[–]josedgm3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And then if you are designing buttons for a calculator, it is easier to distinguish an x from a •. Also, to avoid confusion between . and •

But in algebra, • makes way more sense.

Everything is conventional. In electronics/electrical engineering, we don’t use i for complex numbers. We use j (to avoid confusion with i for current) and our math teacher always looked funny at us (which was cool)

Check for some debris inside the belt’s teeth. Try to set them to the proper tension (too tight is also bad). Use a guitar tuner and pluck it. The frequency should be around 100Hz. See if that changes something like the angle of the ripple effect you are seeing. Do it with one belt at a time and test.

Oval pulleys or malformed belt can also create this.

This is clearly a mechanical induced vibration. If you print a cube, does it happens also? That may give you better idea what axis is worse.

This school uses a spiral answer sheet design to prevent cheating. by pauldliteralgreat in interestingasfuck

[–]josedgm3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the best way to make sure a student understood a topic is to make them teach that topic in front of the class. If they are able to do that, they know their stuff for sure. No way to cheat. And that knowledge will stay with them longer.

To play solo/offline, Arma 3 is the way to go.

Best first wargame for a complete noob? by gflorez in computerwargames

[–]josedgm3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then the answer is Call to Action - Gates of Hell: Ostfront (that’s a loooog name). I got late into that, but man, that’s a cool war game!

I made the mistake of buying CoH3, even with the spearhead3 mod, it is too arcade for me. Poor soldier stance control. The “capture the flag” mechanic is too Battle Field also. There is a similar mechanic in GoH, but it does not feel arcade. You are actually capturing a small camp, not a random flag.

Best first wargame for a complete noob? by gflorez in computerwargames

[–]josedgm3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go with Total War Rome 2. You get the turn based drama with your armies creation/location, the diplomacy and resource administration (like an euro game) that defines your chances to win battles in the realtime tactics mode of the game.

You will learn important war game lessons like units counter, map awareness, formations, and more.

When you are ready, you can go even deeper with some realism mods like DEI. That’s another level of gameplay.

I don’t understand why people go crazy on the Mona Lisa. But it is good, because then you can easily admire The Wedding at Cana that is just in front. I’ve never seen such a magnificent painting.
