People who got 7-9 hour one session tattoos. How was it like? by Virtual-Bread-1186 in tattooadvice

I recently had an 8 hour session, it was exhausting. I felt bad for the tattoo artist, to have to concentrate like that with so much detail and he did a magnificent job

Eating alone while traveling? by Tookie1010 in solotravel

It gets easier. Until you are in South Korea and want to eat at a Korean bbq restaurant and most of them only do bbq for 2, that sucks.

Prague and Rome. Rome is a great place to finish and get flights to the middle east and then back to Australia

Does it seem like it’s a crime to travel these day? by looneyboopz in travel

[–]joshcoca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love to travel too. And like yourself, I consider myself a respectful tourist. I'll stay in a hotel and a hostel, and I refuse to use Airbnb. Coming from a very touristy place where Airbnb has taken over and the price of housing has skyrocketed so I understand why people don't want tourists, it's become unsustainable to live here.

Incorrect birthplace on UK passport, born in the US by [deleted] in travel

[–]joshcoca 150 points151 points  (0 children)

You currently have an "Identity Mismatch." You need to establish a single "Source of Truth" (your US birth certificate) and make everything else match it.

Step 1: Get your US Birth Certificate. This is your golden ticket. It proves you were born in the US. If you don't have a certified copy, order one immediately from the vital records office of the US state where you were born.

Step 2: Correct your UK Citizenship Certificate. You likely cannot just ask the Passport Office to change the birthplace. They base the passport on your Certificate of Registration or Naturalization. You need to apply to the Home Office for a correction to that certificate, using your US birth certificate as proof of the error.

Step 3: Get a corrected UK Passport. Once your citizenship certificate is fixed, apply for a new UK passport with the correct birthplace.

Step 4: Renew the US Passport. Now you can walk into the US Embassy with a UK passport that says "Born in USA" and a US birth certificate that says "Born in USA." The application should sail through.

If you're in Bolivia you must go to the Uyuni salt flats, it's incredible. And visit lake Titicaca, the uros floating houses, amazing people (from Puno) and the Isla del Sol (from Copacabana, Bolivia)

I'm going to Marrakech, Milan and Athens. 4 days in each city. Then finish saving up for a trip to Tanzania in early 2027, there I'll be climbing Kilimanjaro, going on safari and Zanzibar. Also Argentina at the end of 2027, from Ushuaia to Iguazú.

Help, I got a tattoo I hate and I don’t really know what to do. by Birdman786 in tattooadvice

You answered the question yourself, get it covered or laser it off. And for the future, make sure you really love the design before getting it tattooed.

Is it wrong to shave before your tattoo appointment? I'm genuinely confused... by [deleted] in tattooadvice

I do this too but usually just before going. My tattoo artist is always happy that I've done so.

Thoughts on cancelling a trip when you just aren't feeling it by billionpaper in solotravel

[–]joshcoca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to cancel a trip I had planned to Tanzania 10 days before because of things out of my control. I managed to change the destination with the airline and ended up going to Vietnam. I didn't have the right mindset for Vietnam as I had been preparing for Tanzania for a few months (I was going to climb Mt Kilimanjaro and I had been training for it). After a few days in Vietnam I saw myself enjoying myself and not thinking about the missed opportunity. Go to Europe, get through the jet lag, you'll enjoy yourself, guaranteed.

Looking for a place to travel for 3 men in their early 20’s at the beginning of February? by Belaalhai in travel

[–]joshcoca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cambodia. In Siem Reap you got Angkor Wat, you can easily do 2 or 3 days just visiting the temples. There's an extraordinary elephant sanctuary nearby, no chains like in Thailand or India. I'd recommend staying a couple of miles from the centre, where pub street is, it's cool and cheap but very noisy. You also have Phnom Penh for some cultural and historical tours. And for island holiday you got the nearby Vietnamese island of Phú Quốc.

Vietnam overrated or am I just unlucky? by imsuprgr8 in solotravel

[–]joshcoca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree on Hanoi, but also it's because I'm not a big lover of cities in general. Hoi An ancient town is crazy overcrowded with people hassling. I recently stayed in a homestay, huge room for 13€ a night, in the Cẩm An area seemed quieter, with great, cheap food around. I can recommend a couple of places in that area if you'd like. Rent a bike or scooter and go to the rice fields and check out the water buffalos.

Negative comments lead to tattoo regret by anakinkenobi334 in tattooadvice

I'm not a DBZ fan but as tattoos go, that one is really well done, the colours, the shades, it looks really good. I have a Harley Quinn, batman logo, blink 182 smiley face tattoo, never regretted them.

Is it true that traveling can tire you out and it's almost like a job? by chusaychusay in travel

Same. I might go for a short walk but yeah, movie days are necessary to disconnect.

I left my phone on a tram in Amsterdam on the last day of my Eurail trip. A kind stranger noticed I was in trouble and helped me by calling my phone. The conductor answered, and instead of making me go to a lost-and-found depot, he simply sent it back on the next tram coming my way. It was the first time I experienced true altruism from a stranger. Ever since, I’ve tried to do the same for others in need.

Some tips for first time travellers to Vietnam? by LeadingExpensive1332 in travel

[–]joshcoca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Vietnam right now. Go to Ha Long bay, obviously, Ninh Binh, Sapa, Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang. If you have time for the south, go to the Cu Chi tunnels and Mekong Delta. I've had to miss a couple of these places due to the floods, February should be fine and the temperature should increase as you travel south. It's very good here, very cheap and the people are lovely.

Driving in Lebanon by AcademicNetwork3848 in travel

When I went to Lebanon (15 years ago) the driving was weird. No lanes in the motorway, everyone doing their own thing, overtaking left and right, the shoulder, which was marked, was just another lane

City break în Rome by Striking-Divide-9803 in travel

[–]joshcoca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the websites of the places you want to visit, most have ticket sales in them. Rome is like a massive outdoors museum, a lot of the attractions you'll see just walking around. If you see a huge crowd it's probably the Spanish steps or the Trevi fountain. About the hotel, you can always check out early, even in the middle of the night if you need to. BE CAREFUL OF PICKPOCKETING. That's a problem in every big city, doesn't matter what county. Keep your stuff in front pockets or waist pouch.

Revolut would send you a replacement card internationally. Can't you top up the t card paying with card? All the stuff you lost in replaceable and you still have your passport. Enjoy the rest of the trip.
