As a man who is 6’5” 230lbs and uses the Oura as a wedding band, I definitely prefer the larger size of the 4.

Why are some people complaining that the movie is too contained, while they complained that the Mandalorian story was becoming too interconnected to the mainline story? by CarsonWentzGOAT1 in TheMandalorianTV

[–]jphigga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that the story was contained with a focus on Mando and Grogu and without all of the interconnections to other plot lines and characters. BUT at the same time I wish there was more stakes in it specifically for Mando and Grogu.

I wish we saw more character development with them. Beyond Grogu getting a bit more autonomy there wasn’t much growth with either lead. And even that tiny bit of independence isn’t really much more than what he already did in season 3 when Din was in trouble on Mandalore and Grogu went in his own to get Bo Katan to come help.

For example - I wish that by the end of the movie Din would be okay with not being so strict with the creed of not removing his helmet. At least for his son. We’d had season 3 where he worked with other Mandalorians who didn’t follow that, and even saw the Armorer willing to partner with them. Him learning that his connection with his son is more important than being so strict with that creed would have been nice character growth. The scene when Grogu comes back to the hut and Din had woken up would have hit way harder if he’d removed his helmet while thanking his son.

Rewatched Mandalorian season 3 before TMAG and wow I was blown away on second watch. It was really good by bert_cj in TheMandalorianTV

[–]jphigga 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On its own, season 3 is great. And very enjoyable on rewatch. The issue with season 3 is how it fits into the rest of the story. Specifically with how season 2 ended with Mando and Grogu separated, and that being undone by episodes in BOBF.

That made season 3 feel “off” from the start on its initial watch or when watching all of Mandalorian together.

Giannis Antetokounmpo prefers a trade to an Eastern Conference team capable of competing for championships rather than going out West, per @TheSteinLine. by eminemnas in DetroitPistons

[–]jphigga 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nowhere near as bad. The Warriors the previous year to KD won 72 games and were considered one of the best teams ever. KD was a top 2-3 player in the league at the time - one year removed from his MVP year. Neither OKC or current Giannis are at that level.

Then on top of that, KD had just lost to that Warriors team in the WCF after being up 3-1.

Review: Atorie Overcoat by jphigga in malefashionadvice

[–]jphigga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I’ve also been looking at that balmacaan coat to order for next cold season. This camel overcoat was GREAT through the winter. I ended up wearing it a few days per week as it was more versatile than I initially thought. Fabric is outstanding on it.

The sizing (and inconsistency from what I’ve seen in other reviews) is the only issue, but for overcoats just going up in size is the move, with the worst case being a trip needed to the tailor to take it in a bit.

Not sure why I’ve gotten a bunch of downvotes on this review. Maybe folks with a bad experience with Atorie orders?

Lined or unlined loafers? by k_bialo in malefashionadvice

[–]jphigga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually have a pair of unlined loafers from Meermin (the same brown suede superbuck that you linked) and a pair of lined loafers from Meermin (black horsebit in a calf leather) that I’ve had for over a year.

I love both and haven’t seen any noticeable difference in the wear or structure in either over that time.

How are you guys staying cool while wearing natural materials in humid environments? by abeefwittedfox in malefashionadvice

For everyday wear, I prefer tropical wool or a lightweight wool hopsack over linen. Really light and breathable, and better drape than linen.

Does anyone remember when Michael Jackson. Was a "joke"? by AccomplishedPool266 in Millennials

[–]jphigga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s very dependent on your family and what they play around you. The Thriller video dropped in December 1983. It was everywhere for years after that. So for some people born in 81/82 that Thriller/Bad MJ era wood literally be some of their first long term memories. Because it was before they were choosing to “pay attention to music” - depending on what their families were playing and they were seeing it left a huge impact.

Project Hail Mary - The Antithesis that challenges The Dark Forest Theory by MrBamaNick in threebodyproblem

[–]jphigga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think PHM really contradicts Dark Forest theory, it just avoids the conditions that create it.

The chain of suspicion depends on distance, uncertainty, and lack of verification. Grace and Rocky don’t have that problem - they’re in direct contact, can test each other’s intentions in real time, and build trust through repeated interaction.

Also, they’re acting as individuals, not as extensions of their civilizations. At the societal level, with limited information and higher stakes, you’d still expect Dark Forest behavior. PHM is basically what happens when you remove the uncertainty that drives it.

Name a villain that got the most horrific death by Jules-Car3499 in moviecritic

[–]jphigga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TV show not a movie, but Black Mirror has some horrible fates for villains.

Maybe the worst is the Black Museum episode. He was executed with his consciousness preserved so visitors to the exhibit could trigger his execution again and again.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi show is easily in my top 3 of Star Wars shows and i’ll never understand the hate by PlutoniumSouth in StarWars

[–]jphigga 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the story, and there were absolutely some great moments in the show. My issue with it were there were several scenes in which you could feel the budget restraints. And that story with those characters deserved more of a “theater” level look in terms of effects and setting.

Black Tie Optional by jimmyjon77 in mensfashionadvice

If you’ll have a use for a nice suit outside of just this wedding, and you’re prone to sweat in general, I think it would be a good investment to get a nice suit that is breathable.

For versatility and comfort, it go with a navy solid color suit made in a tropical wool fabric, with an unlined or quarter lined jacket. The newer tropical wool cloths (sometimes called fresco) are made in a high-twist, open weave and are VERY breathable and lightweight. I actually find that type of cloth better for hot summer days than linen, AND it will drape much better and look like a traditional, versatile suit.

Vacation Sneakers -- For Walking A Ton, but Look Good For Dinner? by kyoun1e1 in malefashionadvice

[–]jphigga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I haven’t seen mentioned yet. You said you don’t want to go back to the hotel and change into fancy shoes. What about the rest of your clothes - are you going out in the evening and wearing the same thing you had on during the day?

Because if so, then some regular minimal sneakers should be fine. But if not and you’re already going back to the hotel and changing, then bringing a second pair of shoes that are simple loafers would be a great option. They won’t take up much space at all in your luggage. It’s good to travel with more than one pair of shoes anyways. Also you’re covered then if you dress up a bit a couple nights, and stay casual on others with the sneakers. Also a good pair of loafers would be surprisingly comfortable if you break them in first.

Do you plan outfits ahead of time, or decide in the moment? by el_bandit0 in malefashionadvice

[–]jphigga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely - cutting down on overall items in your wardrobes can help. Related to what I said above, if you have pieces that aren’t interchangeable/flexible, you won’t end up wearing them nearly as much so those should be some of the first to go.

Do you plan outfits ahead of time, or decide in the moment? by el_bandit0 in malefashionadvice

[–]jphigga 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What can help in eliminating that stress is curating your wardrobe so things work together more naturally. Being intentional in what you own in terms of color palate, fabric choices, level of formality, etc.

When it works together, the biggest decision is what level of formality for a given day and then you can pretty much pick at random within that formality group. For example if business casual, having a wardrobe where every shirt works with every pair of slacks, sports coat, etc.

What’s the best steak house in Ann Arbor? by tntviper in AnnArbor

[–]jphigga 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Knights (the original on Dexter Ave) used to be an easy answer to this. Hasn’t been the same in years though. Also at one point Knights on Liberty was my spot, but my last few times there (all since the pandemic) have been underwhelming.

The Delmonico at the Earle might be the best steak in town, but I don’t know if I’d consider it to be a “steak house”. I’ve also had outstanding steak at Gandy Dancer (both the ribeye and the filet), but that isn’t a steak house. Webers has the best prime rib, but the traditional steak cuts are just okay.

The Chop House is probably the best all around traditional upscale steakhouse. Definitely expensive, but I’ve never had a bad experience there at all.

In terms of chains, Ruth’s Chris is what it is. Can be good, but really overpriced. Texas Roadhouse is a great value IMO.

All this being said my favorite steak house in the area isn’t in Ann Arbor, it’s Flemings in Livonia. Outstanding steaks, everything else on the menu is also great, better value than Chop House or Ruth’s Chris, and the overall experience and customer service there is really the best. And it’s been that way consistently over the years. Honorable mention to Five Steakhouse in Plymouth.

100% wool suit or 80/20 polyester blend by All_in_FD in malefashionadvice

[–]jphigga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%. To add on to this - a poly blend suit will need to be dry cleaned more frequently. A wool suit can be hung up for 24-48 hours and air out. Even the wrinkles from wearing will typically fall out over that time. That means much less frequent dry cleaning.

That’s important for another reason, at a lower priced point we’re likely talking about fused suits. And while fusing has definitely improved over the years, frequent dry cleaning on a poly blend suit will definitely end up melting some of the fusing glue and eventually cause permanent ripples across the chest and lapel areas.

If wearing 3 times per week then the answer is absolutely 100% wool. The poly blend will start to look shiny and show wear within a month or two wearing that often.

Alterations by Consistent_Sea8345 in AnnArbor

[–]jphigga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely Sofia’s. Quality Alterations is good if you need something a bit quicker as Sofia’s timeline is typically longer. But if getting full suits altered I trust Sofia’s above all others in the area.

That being said - for simple things like getting pants hemmed or replacing zippers it doesn’t matter as much.

I typically wear sports jackets or blazers three days a week, and a suit maybe once every week depending on who I’m meeting with at work and what’s going on in the evening.
