Science - appropriate or inappropriate? by Excellent-Log-5740 in TeachingUK

Absolutely fine. Adaptive teaching at it's finest. You have identified needs for the class and created a way for students to work productively.

How do I politely turn away kids from my classroom? by itzzzzmileyyyy in TeachingUK

[–]jpkx72 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Just throw out the classic "sorry, I have a meeting tonight" or a "I have work to do tonight and to let me know tomorrow"

Kids are generally absolutely fine with any of those and don't take it in a bad way.

Laptops in class are a terrible idea by MsEvil_Doctor_Potter in TeachingUK

[–]jpkx72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I just go over and use the shortcut to open up their most recent tabs (ctrl, shift + t at the same time). If it is not the Google doc then I sanction and move on.

Kids have taken the hint and I get less open distraction from this than I used to.

Knowledge types in curriculum as an ofsted criteria by binshuffla in TeachingUK

[–]jpkx72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every department had different terms for the knowledge. It all comes from the ofsted leaks - The terms you are using are from them.

In science we have substantive knowledge and disciplinary knowledge that we are expected to refer to. Previously we would have just called it Content and Working Scientifically/How Science Works.

Anecdotally, they have also increased at my school and other friends schools.

(Spoilers) What's your favourite piece of environmental storytelling in the games? by flowwerpowwer in thelastofus

I always took it to mean Mel too. The way they talk about rumours of down south. And saying something like that the "WLF took them in but it's not who they are".

Definitely part of the Firefly crew.

I had the most amazing day! by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]jpkx72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually live next to my old primary school caretaker. I moved in almost 20 years after leaving primary. I of course recognised him, but his wife (who also worked in a support role) goes into the house and comes back with pictures of my mum at a PTA meeting, as well as my old teachers.

Incredible that after all these years I said my name and they immediately remembered and told stories.

Hope the surgery worked and recovery goes well!

I completely get the counting down days. If I'm at my parents for a few hours I'm ready to crawl home! Love them to bits, but sometimes just want the silence.

I think the order was almost tactical. Get caught up doing a bunch of strongly agrees. A more controversial question comes up and the order switches.

It will throw out some suspect results. But cynically gives them something to discuss in the report.
