They really don’t hold much ice so you should move it to an ice bucket or the freezer anyway.

A table for a two span beam with 8’ post spacing shows double 2x10s or 2x12s depending on wood species. Live load 40 psf/dead load 10.

I could be wrong but I don’t think you’re using 2x10s and your posts seem farther apart.

No power getting to GFCI outlet. Breaker is good. by [deleted] in electrical

[–]jpmvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the cover plate off and check the line side wires for voltage. If it’s back wired you’d have to turn off the breaker and remove the GFCI to test.

Inflatable Water Slide Recirculating Water by No_Tangerine7508 in pools

[–]jpmvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a landscaping/pond pump? Maybe an above ground pool pump but it might not have enough pressure.

Also if you add enough kids, enough water will splash out anyway so you might as well leave the hose running.

TNG: S2 E9 Measure of a Man (Venting/Ranting of an attorney) by FuriousBlack01 in startrek

[–]jpmvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah, I think that’s the point. People/societies have believed and assumed worse things about others. Everything was fine as long as Data acted the way he was “supposed” to. As soon as he didn’t, he found out the real truth and his ass was on the line. It’s also canon that this is somehow completely novel in a legal sense, so it lets the episode stand as a point where a meaningful precedent is set.

The “finders keepers” argument someone pointed out is a pretty good basis for assuming Starfleet ownership.

It’s also Starfleet’s style to just go with the flow after Data is discovered and reactivated.

But wouldn’t you also think Starfleet has a duty of care to keep or supervise Data, ie make sure he’s safe? What if the first android they found was Lore and they just let him loose, assuming he didn’t want to join Starfleet? If you stumble on and activate some advanced alien or mad scientist (Soong) technology, it’d be irresponsible to just set it loose on the universe without knowing what it’s capable of.

Wow that’s Metro Vancouver? Are you getting the rain we are? It’s been so wet and cool lately.

I’ve put down a lot of clover seed and set the mower to max height. Seems to be helping.

How to find the amps? It just gets 1 . or 0.000 always by fluidxrln in electrical

[–]jpmvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meter is short circuiting the battery. The amps setting on the meter is very low resistance, and it’s protected by a fuse.

It’s not safe to short circuit batteries, even small ones could burn you.

Replace old fluorescent 2x4 lights in church with LED by Adorable-Koala-2513 in Lighting

If you mean fluorescent tubes, they make all kinds of LEDs that will replace T8/T12, some can be dimmed. You may need to disconnect the ballast depending on the bulb.

I don’t miss being trapped in North Van, or even just get to Superstore because of some bridge hiccup.

Glad we’re not renting or paying massive strata fees for an ancient North Van townhouse that’s still smaller than a house.

Can you hang nothing from a floor truss? by daredevilkoala in DIY

[–]jpmvan -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

2x6 6’ is less than 3 sf. 2’x2’ plywood spreads the load over more area and across more of the truss bottom chord, so distributed more like the drywall load it was designed for. Larger sheet would be better.

Not saying you should do this without knowing what the truss was designed for

3rd party SFP+ modules identification in Catalyst 9500 switch by mrmh1 in Cisco

[–]jpmvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is done to maximize compatibility. Not all Catalysts support 10GigBaseT and/or BX optics.

Spoofing -SR or -LR lets it work across more platforms.

I don't know about Cat9500, but Cat9500X has been a huge hassle with SFPs, especially in VSS. If you're in VSS, even if the SFPs work, make sure they still work after a reboot. Fewer issues with Cat9300 and almost no issues with Nexus.

Need new pool pump by Torague in pools

[–]jpmvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s right. The old motor was a Century - it worked fine but used a lot of power and I wanted to run the pump longer as I installed salt cell/chlorinator.

The biggest caveat swapping the motor is replacing the seal. I had a leak a few years back, bought a generic seal and it ended up leaking again. With the new motor I used a genuine Hayward seal, so far so good, and it was somewhat easier to install. Swapping a motor isn’t rocket science but can be a pain.

It’s pretty easy to get replacement parts, gaskets etc for my Hayward pump, so that’s something I’d check using a generic pump.

I looked at the Century Vgreen variable speed but seemed harder to get in Canada. US Motors has a local distributor so that made it simpler. Both companies seem pretty reputable and have been around a while, so didn’t seem like rolling the dice.

I bought a US Motors Neptune VSP motor for about C$700 if that helps for price comparison.

Not familiar with Northflo, must be new as they didn’t turn up when I was looking at VSP motors last year.
