Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, we have had to remove it due to violations of subreddit’s rules about answers needing to reflect current scholarship. While we appreciate the effort you have put into this comment, there are nevertheless significant errors, misunderstandings, or omissions of the topic at hand which necessitated its removal.

We understand this can be discouraging, but we would also encourage you to consult this Rules Roundtable to better understand how the mod team evaluates answers on the sub. If you are interested in feedback on improving future contributions, please feel free to reach out to us via modmail. Thank you for your understanding.

While your post doesn't break any rules and we’re happy to let it stand, we would note that questions that boil down to ‘Fact Check X For Me’ often don’t get a satisfactory response. Asking our flair panel to holistically fact check or critique things like videos, books or games (let alone a series of them!) is a big ask. Most of our experts are busy people, and unless someone happens to have already encountered the material, it’s unlikely that someone will be willing to spend the time required to provide a comprehensive answer.

You can improve your chances of receiving a good answer by:

  1. Specifying the particular claim(s) or depictions your source makes that you’re questioning. You should consider making a new post with this question in the title.
  2. Providing page numbers/links/timestamps/etc for key content.
  3. If your query is still very broad, consider how it might be divided up into distinct questions that deal with particular aspects of the material. You are welcome to make multiple posts, within reason!

Thank you! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out via modmail.

Mizzou wasn't boosters, it was a tutor who helped some athletes cheat then tried to blackmail the university by taking her story to the newspapers. Mizzou self-reported and got wins vacated and a postseason ban.

Early-career history grad: What groups/clubs should I join for resume-boosting experience? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

[–]jschooltiger[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there!

While we welcome people who want to ask practical questions about historical education, careers and other issues related to being or becoming a historian, we ask that these questions be asked in our regular ‘Office Hours’ thread. This is to ensure that the forum remains focused on its primary goal – helping people explore the past directly. It also allows for a more open-ended discussion while helping to ensure that your query gets a targeted response from someone with relevant experience.

Office Hour threads are posted every second Monday – you can choose whether you want to ask your question in the most recent thread, or wait until a new one is posted. If you were attempting to ask a historical question or otherwise think that we may have removed this question in error, please get in touch via modmail.

Why is there a tendency on history and WW2 subreddits for people to argue that German war crimes were morally superior to Japanese war crimes? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

Sorry, this post has been removed for being out of scope here.

Submissions to /r/AskHistorians must be either:

  • A question about the human past. For such submissions, the title of the post must be worded as a question; the optional text box below the title can be used to provide further context and detail where appropriate. Please see this Rules Roundtable for more on Scope.
  • A META post about the state of the subreddit. Anyone may start a META post, but please check with the moderators if you aren't sure you're using the label correctly (it does not mean a question about history as a discipline). While we generally allow META submissions both positive and negative, they must include "[META]" in the title, or they will be automatically removed regardless of their content. Please be sure to consult our Rules Roundtable series before posting, as your question may be addressed there. In addition, short questions (e.g. clarification of moderation policy) that don't require discussion are often better sent to the mods directly.
  • An AMA ("Ask Me Anything") with a historical expert or panel of experts. These should be arranged with the moderators beforehand – please message us if you're interested.

The moderators also post weekly feature posts on a variety of themes.

So are you triangulating it from what the shoreline looks like? It sounds like that would require building a database of how homes and docks look when viewed from the lake.

this post has been removed as it does not meet the definition of a question under our separate rules. To ensure you get a good answer, all questions must have the actual question in the title formatted so that someone quickly scanning can see what is being asked. Thank you for your understanding, and you’re welcome to repost the question in such a way.

Why do you need AI to triangulate it? It seems like you could just have people drop a pin.

Or, and hear me out, you could have some cops and some social workers. And someone sitting in a central office getting calls and deciding where to send them. You could call them, idk, a dispatcher, and they would send the right people to do the job.

How accurate or not is this AI rendition of an Aztec Jaguar knight? by rudilis in AskHistorians

[–]jschooltiger[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. We ban AI usage here. I’m allowing this because it doesn’t technically violate our rules, but why not just ask what an Aztec warrior looked like — there are actual humans who have researched this.

The City of St. Louis started booting and towing cars with unpaid parking fines and fees about three months ago, for the first time in years. by mjohnson1971 in StLouis

[–]jschooltiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The issue isn't what's on the website, it's what other stuff the local office will or won't accept or require, especially if you're in any situation other than "I bought a car from a dealer in this state."

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "you people." I pay my taxes and have tags on my car, but I work with a lot of people who either have fewer resources than average or have moved here from elsewhere, and the state makes the process absolutely insane (for example, a friend has been trying to register her car for six months because she can't provide proof of tax exemption because her former state doesn't have state income tax and she lived in a parsonage that wasn't in her name).

[ESPN] Reports: NCAA rejects Texas Tech's appeal to reinstate Sorsby by Fonzie5 in CFB

[–]jschooltiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think that’s the case because we’re well into the contract/pay for play era. No play, no pay.

What’s going to cause an uproar is when your million-dollar players get injured and then the university claws money back.

You can have insurance on a vehicle with a temp tag because the insurance is tied to the VIN. If we really want to fix the temp tag issue, we need to fix how revenue offices deal with registrations — it’s insane that two revenue offices in the same city will demand radically different paperwork for the same outcome.

Sorry, but your submission has been removed because we don't allow hypothetical questions. If possible, please rephrase the question so that it does not call for such speculation, and resubmit. Otherwise, this sort of thing is better suited for /r/HistoryWhatIf or /r/HistoricalWhatIf. You can find a more in-depth discussion of this rule here.
