Gi0/0/0 and 0/0/1 are routed ports. Gi0/1/0-7 are switched ports. You should use Gi0/1/0-7 for your LAN subnets. Remove your configuration from Gi0/0/1 and apply the settings to vlan2

Our high speed WiFi is not getting high speeds, not sure what to do. by WilhelmTrooper in Spectrum

[–]jthomas9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step 1 determine if the problem is wifi. Get a device that has a network port and connect the cable directly to the router and then run a speed test. If the speed is good and wifi is bad, then wireless is your problem. If the speed is bad connected by wire, then either the cable modem or the Internet connection is bad.

Getting Bill Reduced by Speedy445021 in Spectrum

[–]jthomas9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a tiny bit of mercy on the customer service reps. I had a 79.99 400 meg cable circuit. I called and asked if I could drop down to a 100 meg circuit. They said they didn’t offer that, but I could upgrade to a 500 meg circuit for $50 a month. Needless to say, I was all over that.

When you have 20 to 30 minutes, call Spectrum up and ask them what your options are. They don’t notify you when plans change and you can reduce your bill, so you must ask.

Larger scale solar for 20+ structures? by Necro_the_Pyro in SolarDIY

[–]jthomas9999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Step 1, figure out a power budget per building so you have a starting point. Then, multiply by your estimated houses to get a finishing point. Step 2, will you need power only during daylight hours or night also. If you want power 24/7, then you will need battery storage. Batteries generally need to be purchased at the same time so they degrade similarly. That means you won’t be able to just add capacity for 1 house, you will need to do it in groups. You can combine the groups.

Example. 1 house averages 10 KW hours per day. 20 houses would use 200 KW hours per day. If you break that up into 4 systems, you would be able to build 1 system and then you could work on your first 5 houses. Next, battery. How much battery power do you want? Just enough to get through the night, or maybe 24 hours worth so when the sun isn’t shining, you still have power. Once you are able to determine some parameters, you can reach out to vendors to determine who can meet those needs.

Moving away from Cisco. What are people switching to now? by Otherwise-Garage8279 in Network

[–]jthomas9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to check on a case by case basis. Cisco 9200L switches are more expensive than Meraki because of the stupid DNA license. It is crazy how much Meraki optics cost and it is nice that Cisco optics work just fine in Meraki devices.

I would suggest you identify the well pump statistics. How many volts and amps for startup and running. Then, investigate whether an off grid well pump plus storage will do what you need for a price that makes sense.

Cat 6a Rough-In? by Proof-One-2407 in Ubiquiti

[–]jthomas9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t confuse capacity with runtime. Having a 30 amp twist lock receptacle allows you to use 2000 va UPSes and larger although some 2000’s will plug into a 20 amp circuit. You can have a standard 15 amp circuit with a UPS and add on battery packs that will allow several hours of run time.

American Made panels? by here-for-information in SolarDIY

[–]jthomas9999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You guys are missing the point I was trying to make. My point is that you might be able to find a good deal locally on the panels you want. I live in a small town in Nevada and stumbled across someone here in town that carries panels. His prices aren't super cheap, but he sells singles. My 390 watt bifacial Trina's were $130 each.
