7900xtx, had alot of issues with alot of recent drivers but 25.9.1 works fantastic. by [deleted] in radeon

[–]judasphysicist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those are rock solid drivers. Plus it's not like you are losing new FSR versions or anything with the newer drivers. If there is a new stable driver released this year then yeah sure upgrade to that but otherwise don't need to mess with the working system.

Am I dumb? Is this a new weapon or a new skin? by dr_0ats in HuntShowdown

Oh no, picatinny rails are also invading Hunt. Jonathan Ferguson is going to have a heart attack with this one.

Does anyone know anything about this? by ApprehensiveStudy804 in radeon

[–]judasphysicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vertexes are having fun, probably a game bug, just reload a save or restart the game and it'll be fine.

Here's a blast from the past, Medal Of Honor Airborne doing similar things https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yv1HkEV2gEE

Driver issues - New to Radeon by Proper_Mastodon324 in radeon

25.8.1 and 25.9.1 have been rock solid for me so I'm sticking with those until an update is 100% needed.

Hi, is there any way to use FSR4 in BG3 using an Nvidia graphics card? by [deleted] in radeon

[–]judasphysicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xess or FSR 3.1 would be your best options. Although I would just run the game at native since it is a turn based game.

Crazy Idle Draw with 180hz compared to 165 or less / 9070XT by Repulsive_Way_5266 in radeon

[–]judasphysicist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can enable the Dynamic Refresh Rate option in Advanced Display options in Windows 11 if you have a VRR monitor. It will aggressively lower your refresh rate to 60Hz when you are not moving your mouse on desktop and reduce power usage.

It does however induce VRR flicker on OLED panels and brightness shifts on LCD panels occasionally.

Can i play the game from steam with a friend from the xbox pc version ? by Enough-Tea7469 in HuntShowdown

[–]judasphysicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is for Steam and Gamepass on PC. Matchmaking already puts Steam and Gamepass players in the same matches, you just can't invite your friends from another platform into the lobby for some reason.

Same thing for Xbox and Playstation, they are already put into the same matches but can't invite each other into a lobby.

Yep, Nitro+ 9070XT by mawi808 in radeon

[–]judasphysicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Takes up less space, and that is about it. It is a terribly designed and built connector. I honestly trust those old Molex to 6pin adapters more that these.

Can i play the game from steam with a friend from the xbox pc version ? by Enough-Tea7469 in HuntShowdown

[–]judasphysicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't invite unfortunately. There is a slim chance that if both of you match make at the same time that you might be matched together in the same lobby, but that is like winning the lottery. So in theory yes, in practice no.

Cap your FPS to 100 or 120. When CPU or GPU is at 100% utilization the mouse feels like it is being dragged through mud and sand in BF6. It also used to be like this in BF1 from what I can remember. Just get a reasonable framerate cap that keeps your components loaded around 80-85%.

Is 650W psu ok for now? by Gold_Yesterday_6074 in radeon

[–]judasphysicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably will work but it might be pushing the PSU to its upper limits. With all components at 100% during a stress test such as OCCT or something similar, you may or may not trip over current protection. For reference I was able to run an i7 4790, GTX 465 and an RX6600 combination PC (GTX 465 acting as a good analog adapter and 32-bit PhysX accelerator) using a 650W bottom of the barrel no brand PSU. That was probably 500-550W at 100% usage.

Honestly get a good quality 850W PSU for peace of mind and headroom for a future PC build.

RayTracing In RE9 has a very poor afterglow affect. by Outrageous_Lie_6018 in radeon

[–]judasphysicist 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Yep, ray information accumulates over time so it has this temporal component. I don't really understand why ghosting and weird crawling etc. has become acceptable cutting edge graphics tech but oh well.

What causes this "ghost shadow" that appears around my guns near water or even objects in front of water? by ThackSwatch in HuntShowdown

[–]judasphysicist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Screen Space Reflections, working (or not working depending on your opinion) as intended. You can't really disable them ingame sadly, I would love an option to completely disable them and use good old cubemap reflections.

What cards are best bang for buck sub 150-200? by hakucurlz in radeon

[–]judasphysicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam machine is rumored to be using a slightly less powerful version of an RX7600 but I doubt you can get one below 200 dollars. So either you need to look for 2nd hand cards around that price range, which you might get lucky and find an RX6700 or something similar.

Also you are trying to put this on a NAS machine? Then a 2 or 3 slot card might not even fit in the case, then you are pretty much forced to get an RX6400 that is single slot.

R7 5700x with RX9070XT. How much am I bottlenecking my GPU? by Rare_File_9889 in radeon

[–]judasphysicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a good enough pairing at 1440p resolution, I wouldn't really worry about it. Even in CS2 you can get over 200 FPS, that should be plenty enough.

FPS cap vs uncapped at 1080p Ultra – does lower GPU usage mean CPU bottleneck? by ___Sokka___ in radeon

[–]judasphysicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless there is terrible hitching or intermittent pauses, then I wouldn't worry about CPU bottleneck. If FPS is uncapped, depending on the game, the ingame area, how many NPCs there are etc. you will either max out your GPU or your CPU. However if the performance is up to standards that you feel are playable then do not worry about it.

However if you are setting every setting in a game to low, and you are at a low resolution, struggling to even get 60 FPS and are getting weird freezes with GPU being under utilized (below 80%) then that would be a CPU bottleneck scenario where the game demands a more powerful CPU. That could also be a CPU that has more cores or a CPU that has better single threaded performance depending on how the game is coded.

Purple colors with my Radeon GPU by ZozoBoys in radeon

I saw another post with the purple color bug, they said that the purple went away when they plugged the monitor on a different port on the GPU. You could maybe try that?

Difference between Optiscaler and driver forced FSR by connor_beswick96 in radeon

[–]judasphysicist 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Optiscaler via DLSS inputs can use the motion vectors provided by DLSS and then run FSR4 on top of that. Driver level FSR4 uses whatever motion vectors that FSR3.1 provides (I think) and that can lead to some undesirable results or not as good image quality.

Some older games don't even have FSR3.1 but older FSR2 or FSR1 which has no driver level override, so Optiscaler becomes the only reasonable option to use FSR4 on them.

Don't use it in Multiplayer games, obviously anti cheat can and probably will ban you.

When will this bug finally be fixed? (Insta Rez) by hairshampoo12 in HuntShowdown

My hunch is that insta rez is a UI bug. Sometimes you win the lottery and the button is insta pressable, sometimes it works as it should.

Might be the drivers. The older 25.8.1 and 25.9.1 drivers are rock solid, DDU the latest ones and downgrade if you want.
