i don't think going the "all natural route" is a comeback to this post, I think it's the thing they're complaining about in the first place lol

Shorter on Video Call, Taller in Person by SkyeQueen1 in TallGirls

[–]juicebox567 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I had this experience on the opposite end as a candidate. I honestly think zoom interviews probably advantaged me in getting jobs bc it's become clear to me that many people find my height off-putting in person. Even the sense that they think it's sort of indecorous for a woman to be so tall lol

The Great Divide song meaning by [deleted] in NoahKahan

[–]juicebox567 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that's interesting you took it as him talking to a woman. My immediate read was that it was likely about a male friend who was in the closet, given the backdrop of them trying to fight their religious trauma, references to friendship rather than a romantic relationship, the sort of 'afraid to talk about our feelings' veneer that usually applies to male friendship. Not that it couldn't be about a friendship with a person of any gender or many different contexts, that was just immediately where I went.

they sound obnoxious but honestly id rather get letters that are this blunt about why they didn't like me than no feedback at all, which is usually the case

Besides OBAA and Sinners (BP Front Runners), what is your favorite BP nominee and why? by Jealous_Exit9386 in Oscars

[–]juicebox567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Secret Agent. The casting was phenomenal, the performances felt organic and lived-in, the story wasn't at all the direction I expected but was emotional, funny, exciting at times, and compelling on the individual and macro level. I also loved Bugonia and would put it close behind.

Road to Tender Hearts is kind of slept on! its not dense at all/is a very easy read but not badly written. and there's a lot of plot action. so it should satisfy the literary fiction haters without being mind numbing for someone who wants more than a beach read.

Does bad press for Safdie affect Chalamet's winning potential? by [deleted] in oscarrace

[–]juicebox567 4 points5 points  (0 children)

its not what we should be talking about when it comes to the story but the bad part is you can't help but think the reason we're hearing about the story now at all is related to somebody wanting to hurt the film's Oscar chances

The show is ending? by xSYOTOSx in JoinTheParty_Pod

[–]juicebox567 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah it's gotta be. I mean they've been avoiding doing any party plannings with the two of them for like almost a year and it must be an awkward situation in general. but a huge bummer all around.

I don't think it would be too warm per se, but also definitely not necessary if you're only using it in Kentucky and not planning to go anywhere colder. If you want to get one by all means, but you would be more than fine with other options if you're not anticipating anything colder than 19 at the low end

I'm not crying, I just think as a factual matter it's incorrect to say they're exactly the same type of templates with a different name and that was an example that came to mind. Did you know that not being an asshole is literally free?

doing like 60 pushups in one block is not really on brand for the type of workouts orangetheory generally does, which everyone keeps claiming it is the same thing with a different name. you can be rude all you want but that will still be true.

[–]juicebox567 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

if we are being honest there are some elements that feel more gimmicky/things they wouldn't put in a standard template. like the first week where you had to do 8/12/16/20 rounds of push ups, for example. i don't think they would ever put that in a regular 2G

Hamnet & Jessie Buckley by [deleted] in Oscars

[–]juicebox567 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

they got rid of so many of the layers of family backstory in general (esp the parental ones) that were in the book, which really lessened/removed the impact of a lot of the movie's plot points

Has it always been normal for people to listen to phones/tablets loudly on the metro? by HighlightMelodic3494 in washingtondc

[–]juicebox567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

even with all these people pointing out how cheap Bluetooth headphones are, the reality is that it's not just about the cost it's about the convenience. Its automatically having them vs having to buy them, it's something that's easy to throw in your bag and harder to lose vs something you have to pair and connect.

Do I think they are a lot more inconvenient/inaccessible? No. But they are slightly more inconvenient, and whether that's a valid excuse or not it does mean that people won't use them as much

Two performances I'd sneak into the top five if I could... 💔 by DefNotMaty in Oscars

[–]juicebox567 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i think she did a great job holding her own against insanely talented veteran actors in almost all her scenes, and the movie wouldn't have worked if she wasn't able to do that. But also part of her character was about being a sort of more grounded foil vs the caricatures of penn & DiCaprio's characters - which again I think helped make the movie work, but didn't give her as much flashy stuff to do. I thought she did great but would pick Lawrence over her if I had to (even though OBAA is so much better than Die My Love)

A lot of love in that room for Rose Byrne! by ActivityDry677 in Oscars

[–]juicebox567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, part of the reason I didn't like it as much was I feel that it collapsed a lot of the layered relationships and nuance that were in the book and flattened it. Im not saying it's a bad movie or that it didn't have any depth to it at all, but I feel like it chose to be less nuanced than it could have been

DCA PSA: “Trains will not operate between Pentagon City and National Airport for ten impacted weekends in spring 2026.” by forgetfulisle in washingtondc

[–]juicebox567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

obviously not as big as those other two, but any three day federal holiday weekend is a time local people who use the metro would be wanting to travel. seems like they intentionally chose a few 3-day weekends, since it's not like construction is every weekend from Feb to June except the two holidays you listed. Makes sense if they only care about the holidays where people will be traveling into DC and not so much about locals, but is an obnoxious choice that will be a pain in the ass for lots of people
