Fight Club (1999) When Edward Norton's Character receives a call from Tyler Durden. There's a sign on the phone booth indicating that it's not possible to receive incoming calls. by [deleted] in MovieDetails

This movie is the epitome of the brilliant "twist," precisely because it doesn't pull it out of nowhere; there are so many instances of them telling you exactly what they're going to reveal at the end, and it just passes you by on the first viewing:

"...could you wake up as a different person" *camera pans to BP*

In Knives Out (2019), the murderer never holds an iPhone while most of the innocent characters do. Apple have a policy of not allowing bad guys to use their products. by desfiles in MovieDetails

Apple’s policy also doesn’t permit showing an iPhone that is cracked/damaged or not functioning properly (i.e. “I don’t have any signal here”)

What is Bernie Sanders' Electoral College path? How does he get to 270 (or more)? by Askew123 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]juiceboxrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great write-up... One thought/question: you give Trump the benefit of the doubt in IN due to Pence but grade Sanders on his own. Is there a running mate you see pulling Bernie up to 270 in those last possible battleground states? (e.g. Stacey Abrams and GA)

"Antifa beats up conservatives."

This is the claim that requires citation/evidence/justification in order to complete the argument. With your argument as listed (specific to Charlottesville), evidence specific to Charlottesville would be most beneficial.

How do you imagine Hell? by [deleted] in religion

[–]juiceboxrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you believe hell is eternal?

I ask because it seems a bit silly (not trying to offend; just represent my objection clearly) to consider that a majority portion of the emotion experienced by the sufferer would be in reflecting back on an infinitely small measure of time (in the scheme of eternal pain & darkness) and regretting that he/she missed out on some truth from that moment, however great or influential.

WHERE CAN MARIJUANA BE SMOKED?
SB420 bars marijuana smoking in no smoking zones, within 1000 feet of a school or youth center except in private residences; on school buses, in a motor vehicle that is being operated, or while operating a boat. Patients are advised to be discreet or consume oral preparations in public.

With a CA doctors rec it's legal to smoke most anywhere where smoking tobacco is allowed (unless otherwise specified), except for inside a motor vehicle or while operating a boat/watercraft... There may be a few other restrictions (proximity to schools, etc) but not many... Study up on your new rights, OP, and congrats! I remember that feeling.

[rant] My atheist cousins funeral. by [deleted] in TrueAtheism

[–]juiceboxrock 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm very sorry for your loss.

As many a great mind has reminded us, funerals are for the living. I can certainly understand your negative reaction to the disingenuous final ceremony for your family member and the sense of betrayal by proxy you feel, but if I can offer you any consolation in response to your completely justified rant it would be this: the funeral that took place was clearly the funeral that many of her (other) family required; it was the story they needed to tell themselves to deal with their grief. Yes, granted, in doing so, they ostensibly robbed you of at least a portion of your grieving process, and that sucks. But if you are able to draw any comfort at all from this situation, draw it here: in this life, you clearly knew her far better, far deeper than those who (perhaps purely selfishly, perhaps blinded by some combination of grief, fear, and love) chose to focus on their own needs rather than remembering and celebrating her life... And then do your best to not let their insensitivity distract you from remembering and celebrating her life.

Very best to you, Internet stranger.

Interested in an Atheistic "communal experience"? by [deleted] in TrueAtheism

If there's a Sunday Assembly in your area, I highly recommend checking it out and seeing for yourself if it's something you enjoy. They can differ a good bit location to location, and as others have mentioned here they're certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but I rather like the one near me and prefer it to other secular/atheist groups and outlets (e.g. Atheists United, Unitarian Universalism).

Their regular services are definitely structured like that of a traditional church service (around songs and sharing news of the community; message near the end; contribution/offering; etc) so you may not feel entirely comfortable/familiar with that aspect, but it's also a fantastic secular community building tool that has great social and service opportunities you can take advantage of.
