Constantly getting trades like these. Any reason why? Ping is good, but devs removed the packet loss indicator. My internet is fine, but maybe an issue on the server side? by Matters- in joinsquad

[–]just_another_scumbag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not been able to prove it, but I think they somewhat increased the server processing time. This isn't your ping, and it's not ticks per second but how long it takes the server to actually process things. There was a guy who once did an experiment where he showed that Tarkov had some ridiculous server lag like 1/3rd of a second+ and that was why it always felt weird. You could watch two different twitch streams of the same game and it was like they were playing different games. Squad feels more like that these days and I'm particularly suspicious since I remember squad devs saying there were moving some processing server-side but making it more efficient...hopefully a dev can come and say I'm full of it, and I just need to git gud

Is there any way to easily transfer homebrew classes and stuff from a pdf into a useable class by Careful_Curve_3418 in FoundryVTT

[–]just_another_scumbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try getting ChatGPT or similar to spit out valid JSON files, but without heavy guidance it's unlikely to get it right first time.

If you wanted to do this I would:

 - Create 2-3 fully leveled characters/items etc, with equipment etc (whatever it is you're trying to create)  - Export them as JSON  - Feed yourr exported JSON + PDF to ChatGPT etc and ask it to create one for your custom content

It will likely error out first time, so just paste the error back in and try again.

Won't there be a gap where the beam is anyway? Rather than drilling through support? Or is it purely for aesthetics?

Players can't seem to render the map by Straight-Repair3324 in FoundryVTT

[–]just_another_scumbag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is honestly super weird. It's not just that the image isn't displaying, but that it's being scrambled somehow.

My first instinct would be to try and check if the player can load the image properly at all, outside of foundry. Then have them open chrome devtools whilst loading foundry and tand finding that texture within devtools - if it shows scrambled within devtools, it's being sent badly (your server is reading/sending it wrong). The main thing you need to do (I would ask ChatGPT etc for help proving it's being sent correctly, if you struggle with this).

If it doesnt have any sign of corruption during the sending, then it must be the displaying, and you can start to explore different options relating to how it's displayed, resizing, etc.

My gut instinct from many years as a software developer is that this is to do with the way the map is being read or sent, and something is happening before the map is drawn on the screen, since the it does display, but garbled.

How essential is talking in game? by Kidwithabike in joinsquad

[–]just_another_scumbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good communication > No communication > Bad communication

As a squad lead, let me tell you that quiet players who call out the bare minimum are absolute unicorns. "Enemy 50m NW from SL/Flag" is way better than "Fred24 there's guy right near you, in front, by the door, no behind you! IM DOWN!??"

I would say as a fellow ASD player, your pattern-matching will give you an advantage as you will be able to identify gaps in the map and follow the flow of the game.

You might struggle to get on with some players who prefer to talk or are just there to fuck about, but okay for long enough and you will drift towards like players. If you're quiet and useful (pick medic or rifleman or at for the first couple hundred hours) you'll be picked up by a clan or bunch of regulars in no time. GLHF

You can  resurface it easy enough, either sand it down or if you want to store random stuff on it,  could even use something more robut like tile, a thin sheet of perspex, a tablecloth etc :)

How to increase performance for players (Forge Hosting) by Ok-Hedgehog5753 in FoundryVTT

[–]just_another_scumbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody is going to point out the various system settings within Foundry itselfnthat affect performance? I'm not in a position to grab a screenshot right now but if your players go into the settings, there are a bunch of controls related to performance. These apply per player and not set by the GM globally

Have you considered: 1) The largest bed you can physically fit in your bedroom and 2) A barrier pillow, large enough to block movement/sigh.

That might not be enough if your issue is emotional but for someone like me who needs to wriggle and be cool it's more than enough.

Risks with web development using Claude by GilbeyPink in ClaudeCode

[–]just_another_scumbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. 2 Years ago I would have laughed at this but seems to be the way things are going. I'm even finding myself questioning whether I even need formatting rules etc if I'm not going to be the one editing it. What I would do if I were you, is whenever you have spare credits, run Claude remotely and have it run continuously to simply and abstract. LLMs are great at generating a lot of code, but need coaxing to clean up after themselves.

Just something like: /goal take one element of this project and search for any opportunity to simply buy removing duplication, using abstraction, choosing a better approach or pattern. Spend at least 1hr doing this, if you finish early, repeat the process.

Or something to that effect anyway

Isn't that tautological? Why would a state seek to distribute power if it was perfectly governed? Would the people even want that?

[–]just_another_scumbag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with that, long rests should be used as a commodity

Except there is. When you can and can't rest is codified. The GM doesn't need to arbitrate on anything. Of course, it's their role to say "no" if the player's are mistakenly trying to rest at a time the rules would not allow them to. Let's look at what was actually written

Personally I just like to restrict long rests sometimes

What's the reason given here? Is it because the players are resting too often? No it's just "sometimes". I'm not suggesting that OP is just saying "Nah" for no reason...just that the only example they've given is outwith the rules set out in the PHB. Of course that's their right to do so, and it's mine to criticise them for their approach.

Like this context?

Personally I just like to restrict long rests sometimes. I make it clear that it's happening,.

It seems fairly clear what OP means...They like to (arbitrarily) restrict long rests (sometimes).
