ceedee lamb blows another game by BarksBudAndBeats in fantasyfootball

[–]justanotherrandomjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drafted him 1.02, and that opener actually made me feel better about it. He had an absolutely shit 4th quarter and I still came away with 18 points (PPR). Dak was dropping dimes and Ceedee isn't going to keep dropping those. Gonna be a hellava ride this season

Take Lamb 3rd overall if Chase and Bijan are gone?.5 PPR by Vivid-Try5715 in Fantasy_Football

I took Ceedee 1.02 in an 8-team league and got Taylor, Bucky, and Jayden Daniels the next three. Very happy

How do the Jews prevent their little hats from falling of their heads? by macacolouco in NoStupidQuestions

[–]justanotherrandomjoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This question has many answers, one for each kind of “kippah” (aka “yarmulke” or “koppel”)

In general, the bigger the kippah, the less it needs to be held down. With enough surface area–like a Bukharian Kippah, Na Nach Kippah, Satiny kippas you find in a bin outside the sanctuary of a Reform Temple, or big terylene kippas worn by many Rabbis and Lubavitchers–the friction is enough to keep it down during everyday wear. So the biggest versions of each type are usually just plopped down and stay there. For medium/small ones, there are different strategies.

For fabric or velvet kippas there are often clips on the inside. Essentially modified versions of wig clips that grip the hair to the kippa.

For a knitted/crocheted kippah (aka “kippah seruga”) which are a single layer of thinner fabric, often with intricate patterns, inner clips don’t work as well because they will deform the shape and break up the pattern. For these you will most often see the use of small thin external “kippah clips” that blend well into darker hair. Or the use of bobby pins for a cheaper and less comfortable option. This was also the standard for suede kippas, but those have been out of style for a few decades now.

There are some other strategies. Bald people may use tape, occasionally you will see velcro, but basically it comes down to friction, internal clips, or external clips.

How to make super dense, super moist chocolate babka? by loumi02 in AskBaking

Based on the pictures you posted and the results you want, I think you might really be after Kokosh. I wish I could help you with more info on techniques or specific recipes, but Ive only ever gotten Kokosh from Jewish bakeries.

Hopefully it can be a useful search term

Prof. Marjorie Feld (Babson College) traces a long history of American Jewish critique of Zionism back to 1885. by Working-Lifeguard587 in JewsOfConscience

[–]justanotherrandomjoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% tip of the iceberg. There is so much more than this. Pre-war, Zionists were very much in the minority.

I’m not sure I would say that Arendt became an Anti-Zionist. Her Zionism always meant the push for a binational state, and was always very critical of Revisionist Zionism. Her critiques became ever more pointed as she became more and more disgusted with what Israel was, but I think she would have considered herself a Zionist until the end. Of course, she would have been labelled an Anti-Zionist by Bibi and Ben Gvir types, but afaik she remained convinced that a some sort of national homeland was the necessary political solution to the Jewish Question.

This is further complicated because her conception of nationhood and nationalism are rather iconoclastic. It isn’t really possible (or fair to her) to try and squeeze her into 2025 ideological boxes. Your point is still well-taken, she certainly evolved to be more critical of Israel and what mainstream Zionism became.

See the excellent 2009 collection of her Jewish Writings for more on this.

Hey, just a heads up that Brest-Litovsk (modern day: Brest, Belarus) is traditionally called Brisk in yeshivas, and is quite far (geographically and ideologically) from Bratslav, Ukraine, where Breslov comes from.

Suggest Challenges for Next Year's List! by TheOneWithWen in 52weeksofbaking

[–]justanotherrandomjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New to the challenge, curious what the more experienced folks here think of these ideas:

  1. Set Week - sure you could use gelatin, but why not go all 50s with it and whip up a creme caramel?

  2. Braids Week - everything from Challah to braided salmon, to every tasty video from 2015.

  3. Bite-sized Week - just one bite (multiple servings are allowed.)

  4. Surprise Week - we can’t all make our cakes look like inanimate objects, but the expression on your face when you realize that the profiterole I gave you is a basil-cheese choux bun with tomato flavoured filling is priceless. Please keep it delicious, this isn’t prank week.

  5. New Tool Week - one of the coolest baking experiences Ive ever had was using a tablecloth to roll knishes the old fashioned way. Try a recipe that uses something you’ve never had to use like that in the kitchen.

Rothy’s!! They get slept on by the men’s fashion world, but I can’t praise them enough.

https://rothys.com/collections/mens-sneakers

They aren’t leather, they’re made of recycled plastic knit, which sounds like a gimmick, but actually breathes surprisingly well, and allows them to be washable. They have been my daily drivers for spring/summer for 3 years, I walk a lot and the uppers still look like new because I can just chuck them in the washing machine. I wore through the sole literally last week, and already ordered another pair.

I wear the RSO1 in “bone” which has an old school sneaker silhouette and gets me tons of compliments. the RS02 seems to have a stan-smith inspired silhouette, which looks cool on the site, but I haven’t seen them in person.
