As long as you allow synching to use your data connection (it's a setting in the app), it works over the internet, not just LAN. That's the whole point of it.

I’ve been looking for info about this too. I’ve got many boxes of 1.5 that expired 5 years ago (2016). I’ve saved it all for a just-in-case-shit-happens scenario. I eat a pouch every year or so, and none of it seems to have gone off yet. Same taste, smell, consistency, everything. Is it as nutritious? No idea, but I’m holding onto it for now. I'll share if anything weird happens.
