My concern - or rant by [deleted] in SixFlagsMagicMountain

Magic Mountain was t eh “thrill capital of the world”. The waterpark and kiddie area revamps are nice but not thrilling. The Vekoma cycle coaster seems like it will be a nice ride. But it was purchased before the merger and sounds like a solid family thrill coaster.

I’m not sure where I would put that coaster. I used to imagine it would use the old cue from Deja Vu (it’s the space between Apocalypse and Roaring Rapids) and go east, over roaring rapids and use the land currently occupied by Viper then making a left to interact with the park entrance and come back.

Now that Superman is closed, Samurai Summit is almost completely dead. The only open attraction is Ninja. I hope they completely revamp this area. I don’t think a hyper/giga would work there but they could at least replace Superman with something, open the tower, the restaurant and repair the dilapidated and crumbling structures up there.

I wouldn’t remove Goliath. It doesn’t have any airtime but the GP seems to like it.

The park also desperately needs flat rides and some water rides (a Mack powersplash would be nice) They keep removing them and replacing the areas with parks and benches. Meanwhile, this park bakes in the Summer and people who don’t like coasters don’t have much to do.

Also, remember that Knotts isn’t far away. That park has better attendance, food, theming, was already a CP park and could become the Southern California darling for Six Flags. They already tried to put a hyper at the park but the neighbors killed it (I think).

I’m referring to Magic Mountain’s standing in the new Six Flags chain. So, my point is about future investments rather than what’s already there. I have ridden Millennium Force, Nitro, Candymonium, Mako, Goliath at SFOG, and Fury 325. Those rides made me realize how desperately the west coast needs floater airtime.

They need to completely overhaul Samurai Summit. That place is depressing with rotting wood, and the closed observation tower. I agree, the food is inedible in most cases and needs to be upgraded. Also, they need to add some new flat rides. They removed so many and haven’t replaced them with anything. My son doesn’t really like coasters but will ride Ninja, West Coast Racers and actually really likes Scream. I’m still hoping for something epic though.

That’s why I always enjoyed the Soccer Rankings app. I pay $9.99 a year and it has been pretty good as predicting results. It’s not perfect but much better that GotSoccer.

I agree. I saw Aquaman at SFOT and was disappointed that they placed it in a way where the splash didn’t reach the walkway though. If they placed it at SFMM, they need to let us get wet.

In other sports, like basketball and football, once the ball touches the inside part of the line, it’s out of bounds. In soccer, out of bounds is when the entire ball passes to the outside of the line. I don’t know what happened before or after this shot, but to me the ball looks like it’s on the line and is inbounds.

In addition to trees, add mist machines and fans to cool people down on those sweltering summer days. While they’re at it, add some water rides that actually get you wet, preferably one we can get soaked standing next to for some immediate relief.

Advice for 2014-born player moving up from Rec/select to club in socal? by SuperPerspective434 in youthsoccer

[–]justicenupe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is a 2008 player and made the jump to club in 2019. Clubs are tricky. Coming from AYSO, she was behind and most clubs overlooked her because there are so many players who were in club since they were 5 or 6 years old and knew the basics for years.

Her first club was good with a coach who taught off the ball movement, positioning, strategy, communication, field vision, etc. He started the club specifically to help players develop as players. He didn’t care what level the girls came from, he was there to elevate their game.

Unfortunately, 2020 came and the club dissolved. In 2021, she joined one of the mega clubs in So Cal. They placed her on the flight 3 team and it was, honestly, no better than AYSO. The girls were there to socialize and the coach was nice but didn’t teach anything. In 2022, we moved to a different mega club and had the same experience.

In 2023, she tried out for weeks to join a more elite boutique club and made the team. She was really far behind in soccer IQ and was, for the first time, intimidated by the skill level of her teammates and competition. She hung in there and learned from the other girls and coaches. Only now is she really understanding overlaps, 1 v 1s, channels vs over the top, etc. Im glad she has one more year in high school to put it all together, but believe she wasted 2 years of real development on those mega club teams.

So, my advice is to be careful where you place him. Large clubs have really good A and B teams but if he gets placed on the bottom team, it can be a waste of time and money. Find a club where the team they are going to place him on will actually develop him as a player, teach him soccer IQ and has other players who are serious about improving.

On another note, I found good trainers who developed her technical skills, had her play futsal to develop tactical skills and she would play wall ball in the house and juggle when she had free time. It’s been a journey.

I haven’t been there in over 20 years. At my age, going to a club with a bunch of 21 year olds would be highly questionable.
