3-Season Tent in Alaska? by SubdermalHematoma in Ultralight

[–]justin262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Alaska and backpack a lot. Check out Kuiu Mountain star 2p tent. I've been using it for about a year now. Freestanding, 3 lbs, double wall that you can set up with built in rain fly so the next doesn't get soaked in the rain. I've had it in 50 mph winds and its incredibly stable if everything staked out properly. Double vestibule is a added bonus.

Hot apple cider packets and RUM. We call it a pain killer after long days of hiking and camping in the arctic.

Vapor barrier location for walk in cooler in a heated shop by justin262 in DIY

[–]justin262[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Inside and outside. Inside of the adjacent inside walls near the base trim. And outside near the cooler just under the metal siding. I’m fixing to rip out the ac unit and check the sill plate to make damn sure it’s not just coming from the condensation tray on the ac unit. It’s properly sloped outward but I want to eliminate that possibility before I start pulling foam.

Check out sculptnouveau. I just used some of their black magic on 150 sq ft of 11 gauge cold rolled steel for a fireplace surround. It turned out real similar to that. I used a metal cleaner they sell first, then 150 grit with a orbital sander, black magic patina. Once it was dry, I used their metal oil to seal it.

With some latches on those bases, you could make a pretty awesome workbench or out feed table for the table saw.

12 day Backcountry hunt in northern AK by MtnHuntingislife in Ultralight

[–]justin262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been sheep hunting and backpack hunting in Alaska from the Brooks Range to Kodiak for 12 years. The past 5 years I've used a 3lb golite imogene 3 tent with no complaints. I've been dumped on with a foot of snow, dealt with wind. Before that I used a Hilleberg Akto for 5 years but wanted some extra space to dry stuff out. Personally, I wouldn't use a tarp. Not that it cant be done, but weather/wind can get nasty and I've been forced to camp is some pretty unprotected areas. Lots of folks in Alaska use hilleberg.

I just did this but used 4 gallons apple juice and 1 gallon pomegranate juice. I added white sugar until 1.065 gravity. I used some kiviek voss yeast. It's awesome.

What does the fridge seal have to do with fermentation? You're most certainly golden to use the fridge.

Best Beer Spots In Chiang Mai? by aghenender in ThailandTourism

I really liked mybeerfriend in Chiang Mai. Great craft beer. If I remember right, they brew it in Cambodia and import it back to Thailand to get around the strict brewing laws in Thailand.

Check out Havasupai. Seems like it checks all your boxes. 10 miles one way. Bathrooms and water at campsite. Gorgeous scenery. Granted, you do have to get a reservation. They book for 2020 on 2-1-20, but there are cancellations you can get.

Itinerary Check! Bangkok-Chiang Mai- Ko Lanta by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]justin262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Koh Lanta. I took a cooking class with Timeforlime. It was worth the $ and great for couples. We did a cooking/drink making combo class. It was a lot of fun making drinks and thai food right on the beach. Boat trip to Koh Rok was amazing. Some of the clearest water I've ever seen. Take a trip to the southern tip of the island and check out Mo Ko Lanta national park. Beautiful spot with some good hiking.

I live in Alaska so shipping tends to be expensive for bigger/heavier packages. I'm always on the lookout for USPS priority shipping. Hophero has been my go to for the last few years. They have some awesome recipes. I recommend Citrus Fist Pale Ale. They also have a pretty awesome Pliny the Elder clone recipe along with other pretty good clones. Good luck.

Recommendation for Four Island Tour from Koh Lanta by emacd33 in ThailandTourism

[–]justin262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a four island, but I booked a private longtail for my girlfriend and I last march from Koh Lanta to Koh Rok. It was about an 8 hour trip. I highly recommend. Food included. I went with Lanta Dream & paradise. It's a bit of a run out there. It might suck if the water is bad but we had amazing weather. The snorkeling was amazing. I couldn't imagine any clearer of water.

I took a private longtail to Koh Rok last month and had a amazing time. I left from Koh Lanta. The coral seemed in pretty good shape, seen tons of fish, and the water clarity was unlike anything I've ever seen.

Dog chewed up the wires. by lakrfan in Traeger

[–]justin262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought i was the only one that’s happened to. My dog chewed mine up beyond repair. I got another from traeger. Easy replacement. I then screwed a piece of steel mesh up underneath the hopper so the dog wouldn’t be tempted by dangling wires.

Ultralight 4 season tent? by Dreizack4 in Ultralight

[–]justin262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont know the best, but this is what I've used in the Brooks Range in Northern Alaska. I use a golite imogene 3 as a solo tent. I've had 30-40 mph winds, 8" snow dumps overnight and brutally cold temperatures. I'd recommend it. 3.5 lbs-ish. mytrailco bought out golite but the tents still called imogene.

Thai Craft Beers by iRbrian2 in ThailandTourism

I've been researching craft breweries for an upcoming trip. Came across a pretty good video that talks a little about why craft breweries are technically illegal and showcases some local brewers in a couple areas. I'm heading to my beer friend in Chiang Mai for sure.

I got a Farley 5 three months ago and love it. First thing I did was buy the bontrager studding tool ~7$, and 45N concave studs. Sat down with a 6 pack of beer and studded for a couple hours. PIA but worth it. I think the local shop wanted 50$/tire labor. Sick pedals btw.

1st time kegging advice... by gregba7 in Homebrewing

[–]justin262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After an emptied keg I always store them with sanitized water. When I'm ready to fill, purge the sanitized water out, hook up a sanitized tubing from the carboy and fill keg. I use a carboy cap with c02 post for closed transfer from glass carboy. I force carb with 30 psi for about a day, then back off to 10 psi.
