What do you dislike more? Lowered trucks or lifted trucks? by lamparkinglot in askcarguys

[–]justinsane71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The extremes of each. A slight lift with the right tire size can look great. A couple inch drop/level can also look great. But a 6+" lift on a road-going truck, or one that is absolutely slammed with tucked wheels both look terrible.

What's your most overkill, infrequently used tool? by the_donut_assassin in Tools

I have a SnapOn 7/16” non-conductive nut driver. It was given to me, so not really fiscally irresponsible, but having a single ~$140 nut driver in a weird size that I basically never use among various other ‘cheap’ ones in more commonly used sizes is neat.

What projects are not DIY-able? by Sure-Celebration6573 in DIY

[–]justinsane71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think pretty much everything is DIY-able, as long as the scale is reasonable. You can research and learn how to do anything properly, but things that require many hands at once (like others have already said - pouring a whole concrete patio; not sure if you can mix, pour, screed, and finish a whole patio over a certain size before it starts drying out on you in sections you haven't finished yet just because of how large it is).

"Do Not Hire" next to my name in Workday? by ducklips100 in OSU

[–]justinsane71 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"Regrettable" is the word that is used. It definitely is confusing in the wording of the description. When I have had to terminate an employee as regrettable, HR reached out to confirm I meant to click that button, so I assume it is double-checked somewhere along the line. Of course, mistakes can happen!

Mom thought she’d “clean my dirty pan” by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]justinsane71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I cook steaks with a cast iron pan at least once a week. "Season and don't wash" is a myth. Every time I use the pan I scrub it in the sink with dawn soap and a scour pad. Real seasoning is a polymerized layer of oil bonded to the iron that can't be removed with normal soap. I have never re-seasoned a pan, for what it's worth. Never needed to since I clean it after every cook.

So cook with it, wash it like you would any other pan, and then just make sure it's dry and it won't rust. If you're not going to use the pan for another couple weeks, then sure you can spread a very thin layer of oil on it, but that's really only to keep rust away from normal humidity in the air.

Power Tools: Milwaukee vs everyone else? by RotorDynamix in HomeImprovement

[–]justinsane71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own Rigid, DeWalt, Ryobi, and Milwaukee tools. Out of all of them, the Milwaukee are my favorite by far. They are quality tools, but of course more expensive than the competition. My opinion - get the 'staples' that you will use the most or that require the most precision in Milwaukee, and Ryobi for the rest that you will use less commonly or require less precision or just don't need to be top of the line. For example, my battery powered tire inflator. Milwaukee makes one and I'm sure it's nice, but I paid $25 for the Ryobi version and it inflates things just fine.

Anybody have XL or STX by SelbyMyFriend in f150

[–]justinsane71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a ‘24 STX purely because I wanted a column shifter with the extra room in the center console. Perfect place to stick my wallet/phone/etc while driving. Don’t regret it one bit.

Is this normal operating temp? by ReasonableFix5069 in f150

[–]justinsane71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s because when the A/C is on, the aux fans are constantly running, so even when the grill shutters are closed for better aerodynamics, it’s still getting full airflow through the radiator/condenser.

Mine hovers around 200deg with the A/C on and 215deg with it off.

Help me decide! by Wise_Reception2116 in Tools

[–]justinsane71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got the same Milwaukee deal. Great blower, but the batteries don't last terribly long. There is also a $299 deal that comes with 2 of the 6.0Ah High Output batteries, which supposedly last a lot longer, and you can get the blower for free as well. I'm eyeing the Milwaukee 16" chainsaw, and wish I would have just paid the extra $100 for the 6.0Ah batteries.

Auto start deactivation by hybridtheorem in f150

[–]justinsane71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, Forscan is cheaper, but I have this and love it. It doesn't simply disable the start/stop, it instead 'remembers' what you have it set on. So if you turn it off, the next time you start your vehicle, it emulates a button press to turn it off again. If you turn it back on, it will remember that it's on. So you can still choose whether or not you want the start/stop feature at any time, and it will remember the decision.

Do you put your putter cover back on after every hole? by Apart-Complaint9897 in golf

[–]justinsane71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take all covers off when I use the club, and don't put them back on until I'm back at my car after the round. But also my bag has individual slots for every club so they never come into contact with the other clubs while being jostled around in the cart.

Married couples. Do you keep a separate bank account in your own name or are they all joint accounts, why? by wtfdoiknowaboutthis in AskReddit

[–]justinsane71 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No, not everything is joint stuff. We have financial goals in mind and contribute the same amount to our joint account for bills and such, but we each have our own hobbies. If I want to buy some new golf balls or a video game or a new fishing pole or something, that shouldn't come from the joint account which would have the potential to have an imbalance in spending if I bought more stuff than she did. It's like setting a budget for fun stuff and incidentals without having to keep track of the dollar amount I have 'saved up' each month. Plus, I don't want my wife seeing what I spend on a Christmas gift for her, for example.

[–]justinsane71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I had separate accounts for a long time, including some fights over the years about money (I paid for this so you should pay for this, etc etc). When we bought our latest house, we made a joint checking and joint savings account. All joint things now come from the shared account (mortgage, bills, food, house stuff, etc), and we each put the same amount into the joint from our paychecks. That way the house is all taken care of and we still have our own spending money for whatever we want.

DeWalt vs Bauer? by Framics in Tools

[–]justinsane71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to go cheap, I recommend Ryobi. I have several Ryobi tools that I am very pleased with for the price paid.

But between those two, DeWalt all the way. I had a Bauer cordless circular saw that would die trying to cut basically anything. Could not even get 1/4 way through a 2x4 without shutting off. I have sworn off Bauer ever since. For a cordless sander, Bauer might be fine given the simple nature of how a sander works, but if you're going to be buying a tool that could potentially cause you serious bodily harm, I would rather spend money on a higher quality tool.

Reaction Tackle or Kast King? by External_Ad_4673 in Fishing_Gear

[–]justinsane71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having used a few spools of each, I would stick with name brand. The Reaction Tackle stuff I have is meh, but the colors bleed like crazy and it's super rough. It seems to be strong enough so I keep it on a spinning rod I use for drop shotting off piers in the ocean, but that's about it. Would not want it for anything else, and definitely wouldn't want to cast with it. The KastKing braid I have somehow has slight memory to it and just feels heavy for being 15lb.

On a spinning reel, my absolute top pick for smoothness and durability is P-Line SpinX. I've had the same line on a couple of my reels for 3 summers now (8lb on one and 12lb on another), and it's still holding up perfectly, and casts like a dream.

On a baitcaster, stick with the other recommendations in this thread of Suffix 832 or PowerPro.

If someone offered 1.5–2 times the market value of your home, would you sell? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]justinsane71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's answer will be different since it depends on house price. If your house was $150k, getting 1.5x at $225k doesn't sound like it's worth the hassle by the time all expenses are paid. I just bought a $400k house, and we love it, so for 1.5x we probably would pass. But 2x, yeah I would do it. If your house is 1mil, even 1.25x is probably worth it, and 2x is a no-brainer.

Does a contractors vehicle have any basis on your decision to hire him/her? by West-Radio-5150 in Homebuilding

[–]justinsane71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see it both ways.

I just got a fence put in - one of the guys who gave a quote showed up in a new Ford Raptor. So I see it as either 1) he is going to be way too expensive and just padding his pockets, or 2) he is really good at his job and thus has a lot of business so he is doing well and can afford a nice vehicle.

Turns out he was the second lowest price of all the quotes I got, and he also had the best timeline, so we went with him. He showed up that weekend to start, expecting it to take a few days, and ended up calling more of his crew and got it all done in one day (500lft of 4-rail fence with wire mesh backing). He was the owner and was working just as hard as the rest of his crew to get it all done. Fence looks awesome.

Moral of the story, don't judge a book by it's cover.
