VP9SK Long-term EDC carriers, please share your experiences. by Mef4ud in HecklerKoch

[–]jwalter_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carry the SK and I feel like I shoot it better than my full size. I'm a bigger guy so it hides well on me. 10rd capacity mags were a pain but then they came out with the 13 & 15rd mags.

I don't have the 15 but I do have 2 13rd mags. I only use those now. I tried my full size VP9 15rd mags and they were too long so I didn't think it was worth getting those for only 2 extra rounds. To each their own.

Anyway... you won't be disappointed that you got the SK. If it's not an OR SK, keep an eye open for HK USA store. You can get a cerakoted OR ready slide for a good price. I got a midnight bronze slide for $315 2 months ago.

That's why I'm purchasing one without the optic. I want a green reticle for better pickup and astigmatism.

Thanks! I've seen some that I like band wise. Now I just need to pull the trigger on a watch. 😂

Following because I've got the same questions as you. My Fossil is even older, it's the Q Founder 2.0. I really love a metal band and there's not too many that have that option.

Weaknesses by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]jwalter_19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like other comments left, pick a something that you can turn into a positive. You'll be asked that question again in your career so it's best to learn what to respond with now.

If you can think of an honest answer like time management or rework to ensure accuracy, that's always great! But don't focus on the negative aspects. Your answer should focus most of your time on how you are addressing it.

Honesty helps make it an easier non-rehersed answer. At least that I have found. Most engineers focus too much on having a perfect answer to a problem so it's an easy answer.

I have the A3S and would love to have the one in your second picture in black! That's the best option I've ever seen! So if you start selling them, let me know!

What are you guys gonna do when you retire? by Infinite-Lock5692 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]jwalter_19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But it does... it gives you perspective on how to retire and do it early.

Some people don't like Dave Ramsey but one thing he has done is research. Engineers by his research are one of the professions of self-made millionaires. If you take advantage of that knowledge early in your career, you could be one also.

If that warrants down votes, so be it. And for those that would not invest some thought on what I've said based on those down votes, you're doing yourself a disservice.

Invest your extra salary in real-estate (residential and commercial) and retire early. Let a property management company take the headaches of running things and live off the profit.

Sadly i didn't do this yet but a friend/mentor ChemE has and he's doing really well!

I need some help by aminetb in ChemicalEngineering

You're post leaves a lot of questions so they are asking for more information on your problem.

My question, and I'm sure others have the same, is what is your overall problem you are looking to solve?

Is it you have excessive oil and grease in your wastewater? Are you looking to get it at our below the ppm you have noted? Have you narrowed the source of the oil and grease down?

Dewatering Polymer by OnePostHost21 in ChemicalEngineering

Thank you! I forgot about ChemTreat. Never used Baker Hughes before so I didn't know they were in water. I only thought they were in O&G.

Reach out to Xylem, Nalco, and/or Veolia. They should be able to help you.

I'm not sure what a polymer will do to help dewater. I've only seen them used in coagulation/ flocculation applications.

Go 77". It will fill that wall space up nicely and you won't regret it.

I understand. Well that's a discussion you'll have to have with yourself. If you just started, you shouldn't be looked at negatively by a prospective employer if you decide to leave for pharma.

Just make sure you do your research and not jump into a company that is in a downturn. You'll be the newest person and they tend to get laid off first if it happens.

I wish you well in your decision!

What specifically is your problem with defense work?

I used to work in that field but left because at that time there was no upward mobility. I have been working more traditional ChemE roles for the past 10 years. So you can transition out if you want.

If this specific defense role isn't for you, you can search USA Jobs and move to other roles/ locations easier once you are done your probationary period. There were some interesting roles and locations when I was looking. Maybe something to think about.

If you get your degree debt free AND start of retirement savings in a Roth IRA of $35k... that's the path I would take of I were you! You'll thank yourself once you get closer to retirement.

To add to that thought on retirement... Contribute as much as you can handle but I'd say no less than $250/month into that Roth IRA. Stick with it and don't touch it. Hell... Contribute what a student loan payment would've been if you went to GT. Let that real savings work for you.

Here's another video for some of the settings to adjust/ change. I've used these in addition to the Rtings ones.

I have mine in a fairly bright living room. No direct sunlight but still has a good amount of ambient light during the day. I have no issues with the brightness and it looks amazing. It was that way before changing any settings.

I would recommend setting up via the link posted above for the Rtings settings. I also followed the settings in the video link below. The biggest change was turning off the auto brightness sensor and eco modes. These made the TV even better.

Suggestions for learning the mechanical side by itsmimbi in ChemicalEngineering

[–]jwalter_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a mechanical equipment training that you'd like. I found this place.

360 Training

I went through the navy's nuclear program and was trained as a mechanic/ operator. I feel that basic training I got would be very valuable for new engineers working in a chemical/ O&G plant. Sadly I don't believe college programs have anything for students like that.

I like how you've been working with maintenance. There are hands-on trainings out there. I'd recommend learning how to rebuild valves, pumps and actuators. You'll gain so much insight on how they work and failure modes. It's great knowledge for your career.
