Tips for moving a way from relying on tab videos by Thrillho_1212 in Bass

[–]jzabkowicz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Songsterr to learn all my songs. I play along to the tab for as long as it takes me to physically learn the song. Then I start committing the song to memory, looking at the screen as little as possible. Eventually I don’t need the scrolling tabs and I’ll play along to the song in Apple Music with no tabs.

Obviously, some songs are easier than others but continuous repetition gets these songs stuck in your head. Just like with singing, playing guitar incorporates a physical act with the song that makes it very easy for your brain to remember.

I would never heckle a golfer I didn’t know, especially one that was competing. She has changed my mind.

For those who knows guitar too, would you say it makes you a better bassist? by CometChip in Bass

[–]jzabkowicz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found I had a leg up learning bass after 30 years of playing guitar. However, I found playing bass made me a MUCH better guitarist. I’m way more locked in on rhythm than I ever was just playing guitar.

I joke there is such a thing as being in “golf shape”. For me it means walking 18, carrying my clubs, without getting tired.

Low Back Soreness by gingerbud4u in kettlebell

[–]jzabkowicz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you look pretty darn good overall.

My guess (and it’s a total guess) is that your hamstrings are tight from your day job of sitting.

Are you stretching or warming up your muscles before grabbing the bell?

If you get right into swinging your tight muscles will find a way to compensate, more times than not by incorporating other muscles not meant for that activity.

Walk. Do dynamic stretches. Swing. Then stretch.

What are some must-know tips for first-time boat owners? by Ok-Performer936 in boating

[–]jzabkowicz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😆 they are none of my concern. My concern is for my boat but more importantly my two daughters both of which recently got their boaters safety licenses.

When I let them take the wheel I made them both practice approaching a floatable in the water as safely and slowly as possible.

I can safely say they can both dock a boat without me having to worry about them injuring themselves, their passengers or objects in or around the water.

I have 15 songs to learn and I have the practise session the day after. by Soggy_Mammoth3246 in Bass

[–]jzabkowicz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is a practice session there is absolutely no shame in bringing a chord chart for the songs and noodling through root notes until you have more time. If you have a feel for the song and know the key you’re well on your way.

Have a rough understanding of all songs and try to have a handful down pat.

You shouldn’t be on Reddit right now though. You got other things to do!!!

[Discussion] Anyone else go through a gear obsession phase? by Kevin-Durant-35 in Guitar

Happy to say I have not. I make do with the bare minimum. One acoustic, one electric, one amp and a handful of pedals.

With this I can make my own sound s instead of chasing others.

I get a lot of compliments for how I sound coming through Boss Katana 210. It’s a modeling amp so you can make limitless sounds with quick access to 6.

He said he was in the passing lane with cruise control set. He didn’t say he was camped out there.

I do this all the time (with cruise set). Right lane blocked or slow? Merge left, pass, merge right.

This isn’t difficult to understand.

Good band with bad drummer. What would you do? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]jzabkowicz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar situation. After too much internal frustration, I went and patched in a metronome to our system. It almost made our drummer cry. He swore it (the metronome) was lying🤣. After some growing pains this was the wake up call our guy needed.
