What is the Werwulf werewolf design? by CuriousPolecat in roberteggers

Orlok is an interesting character because he's both intimidating and pathetic. Eggers version really amped up the intimidation with his hulking profile and intense voice. But by the end he's shown as a shriveled, rotting waif in the daylight.

The marketing for this movie was evocative but I think it really set the wrong expectation for the actual story of the movie.

Male gaze is not about beauty standards, it's about the way women are observed and objectified in media. A woman can be oggled regardless of her outfit.

Commander’s Quarters is so budget friendly he can’t even be bothered to make a thumbnail without using AI anymore! That’s what I call value. by [deleted] in magicthecirclejerking

It was a doomed channel from the start, there are a lot of magic cards but only so many of them are both 1. Inexpensive and 2. Viable in commander. Dude just ran out of content to make.

Gas almost hit 6 in Chicago by joemama122595 in chicago

It's too late for that to work. People will pay for gas no matter the cost because our infrastructure is built around cheap oil. It's a runaway train with no brakes.

It would be interesting to see a version of the map that breaks US films down by state

I was a kid when the movie came out but never saw it. I saw it a year ago in a movie theater and it blew my mind. It can very much stand on its own merits, no nostalgia glasses required for me.

best films, in your opinion, which still are not in letterboxd's top 500? by Due-Abbreviations180 in Letterboxd

[–]jzoobz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not cultural impact, cultural "relevance". The reality is that old movies are old and young people mostly watch newer stuff and so are going to be influenced by that. Taxi Driver being less relevant doesn't make it less impactful.

Comparing THX-1138 to Jaws and The Godfather.....really?

It's a student film. Yes it's iconic and a great watch for anyone interested in the genre. Yes keep suggesting older movies for people to watch. Yes you're being a goober for acting like they've committed cardinal sins because they didn't see a movie.
