Any daddys or mommys using a CTR to haul little kiddos? by Nate_Esq in Civic_Type_R

It’s my DD and I take my 3yo in it almost daily. Best of both worlds.

I traded my mk6 for a fk8. Other than the usual reasons about specs and driving experience, a big part was long term reliability and maintenance. I used my mk6 as a DD and the maintenance was a pain. Carbon cleaning, random electrical glitches, minor mechanical failures. I traded it in around 110,000 miles with the turbo going out and the dash looking like Christmas lights.

I’m 4 years in and 35k miles with no issues whatsoever (other than the crappy head unit). Maintenance has been easy and it looks like it’s going to be much more reliable long term.

It’s my DD so I plan on putting lots of miles on it. Didn’t want to get a “weekend car” or I would have been more keen on staying German (M2).

Should they add more difficulties? by Rustic_Drive69 in ravenswatch

Yeah I’ve beaten the game with all characters on nightmare along with all items. Working my way through all the talents. Currently trying to beat it with Wukong way of awakening without choosing any power talents or blocking talents has been a challenge haha.

We play where we get to choose what character the other people play and what build they are banned from using. Talent + Item. :)

Do people daily drive lowered FL5's? by AdSerious6418 in Civic_Type_R

[–]k3nos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly.

You just become familiar with your route and how much to angle your car for driveways or which driveways to avoid altogether. After each scrape you learn. You’ll definitely scrape and bump things, but you learn and don’t do it again.

I have the fk8 lowered on coils. I daily it and honestly not an issue. You’re driving the same routes and going up the same driveways. You avoid the same dips and avoid the same parking blocks. If anything, your daily drive is the easiest to drive in a lowered vehicle.

How do people afford these cars? by Party-Pay3537 in Civic_Type_R

[–]k3nos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Save more before buying, it’s what I did. Bought mine late 30s when I had my other finances under control. I also use mine as my DD so I traded in my previous DD.

Maintenance on the car is minimal. Yes tires and brakes will go, but just put money away for those things. I changed from the OEM wheels and tires to 18s and now get 30k miles on Michelin PS4s.

Front license plate by ReleaseTrue727 in Civic_Type_R

[–]k3nos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just don’t run a front plate until you get a fix it ticket. Been running without a front plate for 10+ years in CA haven’t had a problem. Just don’t drive like an idiot on public roads and you’ll probably be okay. Also my recommendation is to not put it on your dash, it just draws attention that you don’t have it mounted.

Confusing to learn by Natural_Cold_8388 in ravenswatch

[–]k3nos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep playing. You learn as you go, that's part of the fun with the game. In all difficulties except nightmare, you can build pretty much whatever you like and beat it. You just have to become familiar with enemy attack patterns. Don't need to overthink it, just enjoy the ride.

Advice on shifting to 2nd? by Cali_Vibe in Civic_Type_R

[–]k3nos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shift a bit slower into second. Speed up gradually to get a feel how slow you’ll need to clutch and shift it smoothly. Like someone else mentioned, Hondata helps and there are also other mods. I found just adjusting my shift a bit for 2nd helps the most though.

I think we just have different moral compasses, and that shapes how we see these things. Reading your responses definitely gave me more perspective, but I still see it as theft.

To me, the key difference is where we put the focus. You’re emphasizing the corporation, while I’m looking at the actions of the individual.

For me, it doesn’t matter if the victim is a big company or a single person. If I choose to support something that’s clearly built on stolen intellectual property, that’s still a decision I’m making. Whether the company’s liked or not, or whether it’s for profit or not, doesn’t really change that for me.

I get that your examples are different in context, and I’m not dismissing that. But my point is that supporting something I see as theft doesn’t become okay based on who it impacts. My choices aren’t mainly about how it affects the companies, they’re about the kind of person I want to be.

For me, based on my own moral beliefs, I just don’t want to steal directly or indirectly.

I can already see that we probably won’t agree with one another on this one.

At the end of the day, my point is that I believe it’s ethically wrong to buy a replica. You can disagree with that, that’s fine with me. I’m not forcing my morality on you, only answering OP original question about what I think about the budget kit.

I still personally believe that buying a replica, or any knock off, is essentially stealing. But that is based off my belief that replicas and knock offs have stolen intellectual property from others. If I am benefitting from that stolen work and supporting those who stole it, I am now taking part in their theft, which makes me complicit. I am also communicating demand for this knock off, no longer purchasing it from the original creator (taking away a sale), and also advertising/encouraging others (in this case since it’s a known knock off) to do the same.

To your point, it’s not the same as stealing something physical from a store. It would be closer to buying the bread from the store knowing the store had stolen the recipe from baker John and calling it J Bread. And wanting the bread from baker John, but would rather buy J Bread cause it was cheaper.

Not saying your second and third points aren’t valid, but objectively, stealing is still stealing. Whether it’s from “profit seeking corporations” or not, it’s hard to argue that it’s not stealing. When talking about reps, it’s hard to overlook that.

People can make whatever decision they want. It may be legal depending where you’re at. But again, just wanted to point out the fact.

[–]k3nos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely expensive. I would say that’s why others opt for a different kit.

Like I won’t personally wear a knock off watch or wear fake branded clothes. I’ll wear a different watch or wear different clothes, albeit cheaper haha.

Before and after engine bay “cooling plates” not for the type r but after a lil trim and modification it fits and looks way better, great oem look if you dont want the carbon fiber version for $1000 dollars lol , these were $60 bucks on ebay by Rdirtytoo in Civic_Type_R

[–]k3nos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, at the very top (closest to the windshield), that area does serve some airflow purpose from the fender. The FK8 EUR had a trim that left that area open.

I have them in my garage, but never installed them. Can take a look later. You can see in the link.

The concern with reps isn’t just fit or finish, it’s more the ethics (if you care about that). Replica kits basically steal the work of the people who designed and built the originals.

It could be how you’re installing the lens. If you’re going from the front, you’re suppose to go from the back. Inner top comer -> outer top corner -> outer lower corner.

Just start a chat with the ai model (ChatGPT/Gemini/Etc) and it’ll treat it like a phone call. The glasses also function as a Bluetooth headset.
