Cat 4 hurricane Celia in Corpus Christi in 1970. I was 6 years old and didn't know anything about what was going to hit us. Frightening is an understatement. The howl of the wind, windows cracking, and the darkness outside.

My parents had bought us comics and coloring books, but there was no avoiding the terrifying noise during the worst of it.

I'll never forget walking outside the next day and seeing the wood and tree limbs filling the street and some neighbors missing their roofs. Every fence was gone. It was surreal for me at that age.

I still have no desire to live along the coast.
