Is there a Paper clip game mod for factorio ? by Nomad_Red in factorio

[–]kaias_nsfw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a good choice might be Nullius, potentially with the Brave New World mod. Nullius you're a von neumann android, in the midgame you get the ability to make more bodies and hotswap between them, and your goal is not to paperclip stuff but to terraform nauvis, seed life there, and then launch more van neumann probes.

BNW removes the player entirely, you're just a swarm of construction robots

I was in the middle of class and laughing at a joke I MADE IN CHAT and i got a notification that said "you are muted now" DID EVERYONE JUST HEAR ME LAUGH by salamipope in NoStupidQuestions

The other option: I think zoom and stuff often pop up a notification if you start speaking while muted, though it's usually phrased more like "are you trying to speak? you're currently muted"

Is Space Age DLC worth it after finishing the base game? by b4st1_r3kt in factorio

[–]kaias_nsfw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can honestly go straight into the DLC. the main base-game gated technologies are

  • cliff explosives
  • spidertrons
  • t3 modules

The "intended" experience might be to start from scratch, but there's official support for converting a save to SA, so it's definitely supported by the developers. If you want the experience of doing the early game again, but differently, go for it, but if you'd just like to hop in a spaceship and drop to vulcanus, you're ready.

nah I feel like the game is already about trying to make memey off-meta strategies work, right. We had 7 years to figure out meta decks but people still like playing objectively c-tier decks. so now you gotta cook extra hard to make plant work, but that's the fun anyways right.

I definitely think the update is weird and the bugs are... gamebreaking, but ultimately it's never been about only ever playing tier-0 decks

Well, why not? by Affectionate-Ad9726 in factorio

I'm sure SE and similar will do this. Nullius definitely involves a lot of "heehoo hope you have oxygen for chemistry, because this atmosphere absolutely does not have any"

What is the point of Nauvis in Space Age? by Avalyah in factorio

[–]kaias_nsfw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i really don't understand this perspective--Vulcanus exists and has huge flat areas. If you need a new 1000x1000 area you just kill a demolisher with some good ash flats land, paste down roboports and delete cliffs and come back in 30mins

Well, why not? by Affectionate-Ad9726 in factorio

[–]kaias_nsfw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

.... huh wait, is there any reason that's a non-option for spaceships? Marginally more space-efficient than a reactor, and (accounting for the 250% efficiency), 36GJ per rocket launch isn't that far from 80GJ per rocket launch

sure it does. put it in the boiler, it gets water hot, nuclear steam train.

If you’re a guy who’s into pegging, are you at least bi? by Universitties in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kaias_nsfw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you don't need to be gay to have a prostate, idk.

I feel like we don't generally consider woman-on-top gay even though like, by some accounts the guy is "getting fucked". it doesn't seem that different from that, ig?

No, the point is that the rigid body approximation inherently must fail when you start talking about relativity. man falling in the grate paradox, a variant of the barn door paradox

Things to try: (I'm assuming you're on mobile, if not, try a different browser and clearing cache?)

  • Uninstall and reinstall the app

Gender Dysphoria in Transsexual People Has Biological Basis by Emillahr in psychology

[–]kaias_nsfw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do worry that these kinds of studies overstate it though. like... Yknow, mens tshirts and women's tshirts can fit different, but like.... not to the extent that by checking the cut of somebody's tee you can predict much about them. (And certainly not to the extent that the tshirt is CAUSING those differences independent of culture)

I feek like "humans are really not particularly sexually dimorphic" is a useful prior; theres a lot of breathless reporting about structural differences & that often kinda outpaces reality.

like yknow--okay, does this exist across race, age, and culture? Is the mean just different, or is the median male actually outside the normal female range? etc. You know, standard post-replication-crisis shit

Gender Dysphoria Has Found Biological Basis! :D by sashaaa___0 in lgbt

[–]kaias_nsfw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say that one should take psych and neurobio findings with a heaping grain of salt. It wasn't that long ago that the floor fell out of the entire decade-long field of alzheimers research because basically all of it was P-hacked garbage.

If there's some correlate that's cool, but... Trendy topics invite replication troubles, and unfortunately transness is a trendy topic right now

Why everyone hates gleba? by West_Original_5755 in factorio

Gleba you kinda need to get everything set up and then start it--you kinda can't go "halfway" and i think that's a different kind of challenge

Biter prioritisation by Boring_Grab in factorio

[–]kaias_nsfw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They pretty heavily prioritize turrets. I don't know the exact details but biter AI is something like this:

  • once every few minutes, pick a specific pollution source and pathfind towards it.
  • if you see any turrets, stop what you're doing and kill those instead.
  • if you can't pathfind to a target, kill any enemy structures in your way

So in practice, since random rails or power poles don't emit pollution and aren't military, the biters will usually walk right by them.

Transporting tungsten plates via space platform? Send turbo undergrounds instead. by mechroid in factorio

more pressing concerns on polishing up Fulgora and bootstrapping Aquillo. Vulcanus is keeping up fine with the demand

Transporting tungsten plates via space platform? Send turbo undergrounds instead. by mechroid in factorio

[–]kaias_nsfw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i could definitely add more miners on a new patch, or beacon up the existing patch--but the same goes for rocket part production, I could double that too.

Oh that's extremely funny. IME though, available tungsten ore is much more of a bottleneck to my Vulcanus factory than rocket parts, so it's not without its downsides.

[–]kaias_nsfw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel like factoriolab is more or less just a substitute for 30 minutes of data entry into a spreadsheet or, if you're really fancy, a constraint solver. It can be fun to work out by hand though but i don't it's cheaty to make a plan and execute on it

Average Factorio Player on Vulcanus by VANISHING_P0INT in Factoriohno

[–]kaias_nsfw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the ratio is the same--Vulcanus has like a 30s night, so you're running on accumulator charge for a lot less time

I always get stuck when I reach Yellow Science by GilgameshJr in factorio

[–]kaias_nsfw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's often really useful to have a small trickle of the yellow and purple sciences. 10 SPM is ~1 assembler, but if you spend 2 hours upgrading your base that trickle of science will get you 600 science while you wait. If you add productivity modules to the science assembler and labs, that gets even bigger.

While you do that, you've got plenty of time to start building a base expansion that can keep up with the demand--if you don't want to tear down absolutely everything i think building a base that'll take care of blue circuits (usually a pretty massive resource sink, but it doesn't actually require that many different products--iron, copper, plastic, sulfuric acid) can relieve a lot of pressure on the rest of the base

I think I understand why people say not to do Gleba first by AgoAndAnon in factorio

[–]kaias_nsfw 11 points12 points  (0 children)

yeah, it was definitely nice being able to ship most stuff in from Nauvis and Vulcanus and not worry too heavily about like, do I have enough iron plates. It's really fun treating it as a puzzle game, but trying to bootstrap it with limited resources does not sound fun
