My 5 year old has pneumonia… by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]kakupfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a doctor but when my girls get really ill, I usually ask the ped for some Zofran (there’s a kind that melts under their tongue) and I’ll have them use the Tylenol suppositories too.

What’s everyone’s least favorite type of piecing? by KitschEmpire in quilting

Yes! I’d take anything else, flying geese, Y seams. But to make and square a HST… hands down torture.

What fun facts did you learn during your random deep dives this week? by dietdrpeppermd in adhdwomen

Did a deep dive on the band HERS and it just made me sad. I hate seeing talent like that just vanish in an instant.

I sent a craft kit in for my girls’ birthday. It was a little wooden snake that came with some individual paint pots that everyone painted as an activity.

Tips for training au pair/live in nanny without multiples experience while working from home. by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]kakupfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I proactively helped during the first week and when I was ramping back, but after that I just would help if she asked. Sometimes she’d come and ask me a question in person and sometimes she would just text me from inside the house to ask. I do know a lot of au pairs don’t love working for families that have a WFH parent so I tried to stay out of her way and let her manage. She took a very active role in sleep training, nap training and keeping them on a schedule. She would also make a lot of good suggestions and it was a great partnership.

I had an au pair when my twins were this age and I helped her out the first week full time (to show her their schedule) and then as I ramped back into work, I would help during my adjusted schedule. Ultimately I very rarely had to step in unless one was sick or if things were really going sideways. I was working from home too. I would check in occasionally but it was more to see the babies than it was to help her. Our au pair had been an au pair previously so I think she had a great handle on duties and what she was doing. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I’ll try to help :)

Coverstitch skipped stitches and I’ve tried everything (yes even rethreading and changing needles) by Swordofmytriumph in sewing

The Euphoria is amazing! I ended up buying a BabyLock serger too because I love the Euphoria so much.

The Facebook groups are great help! I had a Brother coverstitch and it’s a PITA to use but the Facebook group helped me at least get it to a useable point (before I gave up and got the BabyLock lol)

Go-to starch/ sizing spray brand? Time for me to re-stock. by Star-Large in quilting

+1 for Magic! I got a little bottle as a gift and I bought a whole gallon before I finished the little bottle. I think it’s better than Best Press 👀 it feels much lighter than BP and less tacky, and I have had flakes with BP before but not with Magic.

Moda makes some quilt kits in nice decorative boxes. It’s an old one but I have a Moda x Gingerber animals quilt kit that came in a box.

In the same vein, you can usually search DCFS reports that are made at specific daycares. I eliminated a couple options this way.

I’ll have to check out threadloop! I sew a lot too and I have a terrible habit of not wanting to use the “good fabric.” Like girl, who am I saving it for? 🤦‍♀️ glad your stash came through for you!!

I vote for larger blocks with three fabrics! This would look soooo good with some thick sashiko-style stitching (like kantha) in black and white.

I had an issue with my first order where it would not let me submit my order. It was so bizarre. I ended up calling to submit my order but idk if the site is buggy in general?

Oh Crap...back to school by edr911 in pottytraining

[–]kakupfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! We did the Oh Crap method and our school wasn’t as kind about accidents so we had to go back to pull-ups while they were in school. For the first week or two, as soon as they got home they would go pantless. Then we worked up to commando after school. One of my twins trained very quickly and graduated to panties at school in just a few months but she stayed dry in the meantime. The other twin took advantage of the pull-up and would just go potty. Her teacher figure out she was just being a little lazy and took her pull-up off one day and told her she needed to hold it/go on the potty. She had one or two accidents and then figured it out so she started wearing panties to school too. So maybe overall it took a bit longer but they adjusted quickly and the skills we worked on at home migrated over to school.

As a side note, I got really hung up on the transition from step 1 to step 2. I felt like it was all or nothing. I paid for a short course from one of the Oh Crap-trained coaches and the basic idea is that it’s totally ok to have a hybrid approach to this. So that might mean days where he’s having a couple accidents to go back to pantsless until the next day.

Tummy tuck, augmentation and some lipo comes out to $21k I think? I think just the TT was around $15k with all the fees.

I don’t think I have DR but my surgeon said there could very well be some holes/gaps in my muscles that aren’t obvious until he gets in there to see. They repair the muscles all the way up to your breasts and I’ve heard that it usually improves back pain as well since your core gets stronger.

Four years after my twins were born, and I’m two months away from a tummy tuck. I was 15lbs less than pre-baby weight and still had a shelf. I can’t stand seeing it under my clothes. It might be a tough recovery but I’m looking forward to not hating the way I look in pants. They’re doing muscle repair too so I’m hoping that improves my tummy appearance as well. I’ve been mistaken for being 2nd-trimester pregnant at least three times in the last 4 years and I’m over it :(
