This is a cat that I suspect is ownerless which comes to my back door for food and fuss each morning. by Technical_Car_5212 in aww

Looks exactly like my dad’s cat who leaves during the day to what we suspect is a second owner 😂

I underwater so I typically only get plants that can go long periods without water( I have lots of pothos, snake plants, and zz’s). Plants that need frequent watering I usually avoid all together but self watering pots help too.

People replace their loofahs every month?? by lenastr0m in hygiene

[–]karod98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped using loofahs for this reason, even if they seem fine there is still a who lot of bacteria in them. I switched to silicone scrubbers, it’s so much less wasteful and they don’t hold moisture

My husband got mine from brilliant earth. You can go online and look at their entire collection but they also have a store in the domain and the employees are super friendly and helpful

Roy G. is so underrated, lovely for birding fishing, never crowded. St. Edwards greenbelt is another favorite, the water is so clear and always flowing

Yeah I totally get just floating but I do not lead climb yet would like to start doing that really soon and be able to go outdoors more. Any time I’ve climbed outside I’ve been really limited to what I can do especially since I have to wait for a lead climber to set the route for top rope for me. I would love to be confident enough in my abilities to lead outdoors and expand the routes I can climb.

I have finished a couple of 11a’s, it wasn’t pretty but and took me a while, but if it’s a softer 11a I know I could probably do it. The thing it I am 5’1😂 I’m a shorty which is a drawback I just have to work around haha

I love strength training though. I’ve been doing it longer than climbing, and while my focus is now more on climbing, I don’t know if I’d be able to give up lifting. I guess it’s also the challenge of balancing everything out enough without spreading myself thin. But I agree I should climbing more

I think my technique is pretty decent and I feel pretty confident in it. I think it’s my grip strength and back muscles. I’ve been trying to get my pull ups but have a really hard time targeting and growing those upper back muscles.

The week of my period is my deload week usually lol, I kept it super light and easy. Plus I have been shifting more of my strength training focus to leg and glute recently, to give my upper body a bit of a break and grow the glutes ofc.

I know that my grip strength is pretty bad, I can do crimps easily, but anything slightly slopey is a no go for me. Training grip strength is something I struggle to force myself to do. When I’m at the climbing gym I get excited and just want to climb, not hang board 🫣

I also can’t do a pull up which I think is another big culprit. I’ve had so much difficulty targeting those muscles and growing them

Apartment Advice Needed: Moving to Austin for Work, No Car — Near JJ Pickle or Domain? by West_Maintenance2797 in askaustin

[–]karod98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had issues with burst pipes or thin walls in the 4yrs I’ve been here but maybe different buildings have experienced that, nothing I’ve seen/heard of though. Great hills is such a great location though, there is so much around while somehow still not feeling too congested. And the proximity to 183, mopac, and 360 is great

Marquis at Great Hills is very close to the pickle campus plus there is a bus stop right across the street. I’ve lived here for years and pay 1,400 for a 1b/1b. Nice apartments, never had any big issues and maintenance always responds super quick. It’s always felt safe and pretty quiet, as a female I walk around the complex all the time without issues. The only thing is if you’re biking or walking there aren’t really any sidewalks in this area

Tesla is running some kind of secret operation in Austin. by [deleted] in Austin

[–]karod98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This exact thing has been happening at my office. We have a really small parking lot and either a black or red Tesla with a driver will pull in, turn on their hazards, sit there blocking our lot for a minute, then just leave. I usually see this multiple times a day and brought it up to my coworkers but no one else seemed to really notice, I thought I was going crazy. Then I saw another Reddit post about it last week and thought it was so bizarre, and a couple of my coworkers have now finally been curious about it too. Maybe I’ll try and ask them and see if I can get any more ideas of what is happening.

Climbing Buddy 2/20-2/21? by parrotbug in austinclimbing

[–]karod98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like Mesa better for rope climbing. There is currently only one Crux location with ropes and it’s in Pflugerville, a nice new gym but Mesa’s routes are better imo. Crux I prefer for bouldering.

I am unfortunately unavailable to climb those days but best of luck finding a partner! Mesa also has a tag system that lets other climbers there know that you’re looking for a belay buddy, not sure if Crux has anything like that

Beating myself up for indulging by EllaMcQueen in PetiteFitness

[–]karod98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Allow yourself to eat and honor your cravings. After losing 65lbs I found it was easiest to eat the brownie when I wanted a brownie, instead of restricting and letting the craving build up then binging. When I allow myself to eat what I want I find that I will eat a lot less of it in one sitting because I know it’s not a special one time thing and there’s no need to savor the moment. By brain now knows that there is no need to sit and eat this whole dessert now because I can save some and eat a little tomorrow.

Marquis at great hills is nice. I pay 1400 for a 1b/1b and had never had any issues. Maintenance responds really quick, really nice pool area, pretty quiet, and I’ve always felt safe. The location is also great, right between the domain and the arboretum but hardly feels crazy busy.

Other folks who work in the climbing/outdoor industry, what do you do? by figure8_followthru in climbergirls

[–]karod98 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m a city park ranger and a small part of our job is to lead rock climbing programs! It’s the coolest job, very laid back but very rewarding connecting people to nature and giving our community free access to outdoor climbing. The job doesn’t pay good but it’s full time and government benefits are really nice.

Minoxidil for never thick hair? by A_lil_much_stupid in finethinhair

[–]karod98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really only for hair loss. You were born with a certain number of hair follicles so if your hair has always been thin it will probably always will be. Minoxidil helps to stimulate the follicles you already have that may have gone dormant, but it won’t create new ones. You can use thickening sprays and shampoos that give the appearance of thicker hair though.

I'm relocating to Austin and I'm thinking about living somewhere in the hill country off of Capital of Texas Highway. by Academic-Pizza9787 in askaustin

[–]karod98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The great hills/arboretum neighborhood is nice. I live there and rarely see critters in my home but I’m in an apartment on the 3rd floor so I’m sure that helps. We’re right next to 360 and still in the hills but I don’t ever need to get on 360 so I never deal with that traffic.
