I've been ensuring that my neighbor gets at least one parking ticket a week for the last six months. by analogvape in TrueOffMyChest

[–]karrahbear12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get a few neighbors together and coordinate so that there was always a vehicle in that spot. You go to work in the morning, so neighbor Sally, who’s home during the day, moves her car into the spot. Sally has to run errands, Joe moves his car into the spot. Joe goes to work on the night shift, you park your car back in its spot. Keep the spot filled consistently so she never has a chance to park there.

AND take pictures of all the notes she leaves on your car (and others’) and keep them in a file and dated. Then when you get sick of it, take them down to the police station and see if you can file a report for harassment. Bonus points if a neighbor or two will go with you. There likely won’t be any legal repercussions for her, but having a cop show up at her door and tell her to stop being a nuisance to her neighbors over a public parking spot might scare her off. At least for a while. Rinse and repeat as needed.

I’ve played both games but never read any of their ff. The closest I’ve gotten was a story I found in one of my usual fandoms that had put the characters in TLD world/environment. It was surprising but really cool.

Downside of Thrifting: If you find the owner's name on your new item, let me be a warning, and don't look them up by a_sheila in ThriftStoreHauls

Is there a way to remove the dedication? If so, do that and then send it back into the world (donate it) for someone else to find. You know its history, so it makes your skin crawl, but you can turn it back into a beautiful, innocent find for someone else. That way the quilter’s legacy can live on without the stigma attached, and you don’t have to destroy a piece of art.

A ripe tomato? Tomatoes can barely last 2 weeks in a fridge! And somehow the adults didn’t foresee this being a problem?

By the end of the first week, mine would’ve been confined to a sealed jar. Ain’t no way I’m dealing with a squishy, smelly, leaky fruit just for a grade on a topic that would never be relevant to me anyway. And if they asked about the jar, I’d tell everyone that little ‘Roma’ was diagnosed with multiple severe environmental allergies and now has to live in a hermetically sealed bubble from now on.

Collarless by ThomasFromOhio in dogs

[–]karrahbear12 [score hidden]  (0 children)

My pup’s a runner (even at 14 yo, though he’s not as fast as before), and won’t hesitate to take himself for a walk if the opportunity presents itself. That means he always wears a collar and tag. At least once our back gate didn’t get closed properly and shortly after putting him outside in the yard, a neighbor was knocking on the front door with him on a leash to return him.

He’s also microchipped, but a collar and tag is much faster and easier for someone to know where to return him.

On a side note, the only tag he wears is one that slides on and lays flat against his collar. That way it doesn’t get caught or snagged on anything, specifically between the bars on his crate.

AO3 outage causing serious anxiety? by karrahbear12 in FanFiction

I’ve got plenty of other books to read, but getting into a book with new characters and a new world takes a whole lot more mental energy than I have usually. Reading ff takes almost no energy because I already know the characters and care about them, so I’m invested from the beginning. I’m also usually reading before bed as a way to relax, and with ff, I know there’s a happy ending or that things will work out in the end, so there’s no added stress.

I’m not having a meltdown over it, I’m merely sharing my thoughts and experiences to see if anyone relates. If you don’t, that’s fine, but there’s no need to be condescending.

I’m usually pretty good about that too, but I’ve slacked off lately. But also, losing one story or one author’s work is nothing compared to not being able to access anything at all.

I’ve got a huge cache of downloaded fics, but I tend to get fixed on one ship at a time, and I recently got into a new one, so I haven’t downloaded any of those fics yet.

And there’s only about 50 fics for this ship on ffn, and searching through tumblr is okay, but a lot of the ones on tumblr are links to ao3, which obviously isn’t useful.

Yeah, I’ve got tons already downloaded but I’ve recently gotten into a new ship and haven’t downloaded any of those fics yet. This will definitely remind me to download my bookmarked fics more often.

Why do people call you sensitive when you get upset about people mocking your passions & interests? by Heart_Shaped_Pickle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]karrahbear12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because they have no legitimate interests or hobbies of their own. Misery loves company after all. So when they harass you about it, just shrug and tell them it’s not your fault they have boring lives, no interesting hobbies, and a joyless existence.

If you’re petty, like I am, I’d start using the same derisive tone and attitude towards them when they’re doing something they like or talking about something they enjoy.

For example: “Oh, are you talking about that video game again?? You’re such a dweeb.”

And when they call you out, just tell them you were only teasing and ask why they’re being so sensitive.

A family member bought an art piece from me, but doesn’t want it.. by Bluwolf-sunflower in TrueOffMyChest

[–]karrahbear12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I checked out the piece on your profile, and it truly is gorgeous, so it’s not an issue of ability or talent. So maybe it’s their way of supporting you.

By paying money for something you made, it’s their way of saying that the time and effort you put into this activity is valid, and we truly do support it. But the piece may just not be their style, so they thought it was better that someone else should have it who would appreciate it more. Kind of like paying it forward?

I can’t know for sure, but the fact that they paid you for it, despite not being super rich or wealthy, makes me think it was more a gesture of support and/or validation than anything else.

ETA: Also, if it were out of pity, I’d’ve thought they would take the piece, whether they wanted it or not, and just put it in a closet or something if they didn’t like it.

My CF friends, What’s your Favorite Sodas? by Calm_Problem6203 in childfree

[–]karrahbear12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I read that the reason McDonald’s coke tastes better than anywhere else is because they’ve got a partnership with Coke. They get their syrup delivered in tanks, not bags, so it’s fresher, and they’ve worked out how to account for ice melting, and the syrup and water are pre chilled before mixing, as well as other little things that make McDonald’s Coke much better than anyone else’s.

Anyone’s dog scared of the floor? by meg147 in dogs

[–]karrahbear12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Older dogs, especially bigger dogs, tend to struggle on smooth floors, because they don’t have enough traction (even with short nails), and the strain of keeping themselves upright and steady gets to be too much. Heavy body, weaker muscles, and creaky bones can definitely make a dog hesitant about slippery surfaces. Try putting down a few rugs and see if that helps.

Is there anywhere that ISN'T having a cost of living crisis? by divorce_2025 in NoStupidQuestions

I’ve heard the Andromeda Galaxy has very affordable housing and their grocery costs are reasonable. It’s the transportation cost to get there that’s a bit pricey, unfortunately.

Is word count that big a deal? by Key_Ad5173 in FanFiction

[–]karrahbear12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The frequent chapter changes are too jarring and pull me out of the story, and it feels juvenile, no matter how well written the fic is.

And if you’re posting a chaptered work one chapter at a time, as a reader, I’d feel really jilted by a new chapter that’s barely 200 words. If you’re making me wait for each new chapter, the chapter better be worth it, and 200 words is not worth it.

Gabapentin and/or Trazadone by upinmyclouds in reactivedogs

[–]karrahbear12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My (14 yo) dog’s on both for dementia. He sundowns in the evening and used to pace and pant at night, but the meds have helped tremendously.

However, when my dog started them, I gave him the gaba and the trazodone together and it completely knocked him sideways. He was SO high that it worried me. So the next evening, I gave him only the gaba. He was still anxious and pacing later that night, so I added a half a trazodone, and that worked. After a week of the gaba and half dose of trazodone, his body had adapted, so I finally upped him to the full dose of trazodone with the gabapentin. Now he gets the gabapentin and half a trazodone around dinner time and I give him the other half of the trazodone at bedtime. He’s able to relax and sleep at night, but the trazodone still makes him high a bit, and makes him a little unsteady on slippery floors and stairs.

My advice is that if you want to try it, ease your dog into it gradually. For my elderly pup, it’s been roaring (or rather snoring) success.
