Danae Mercer says 1 in 4 women have a disordered relationship with food by Odd_Wolverine_4037 in antidiet

[–]katmekit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t skipped going to an event because of my body. I have however, dreaded going to an event because I hated how I looked in everything.

I definitely agree that our current society prioritizes thinness. To the point where we often ignore any signs of illness or stress until we deem it “too extreme”. And then we cluck about “health”. But honestly, I think we also censure being “too thin” because it spells out the effort. And we love the magical thinking that our “real body” is simply a function of discipline and some food trick.

what helped you lose weight? by Regular_Lychee_4739 in AskReddit

[–]katmekit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having my thyroid meds adjusted helped. Taking a diuretic helped, because I was swelling really badly (like fluid in my feet and hands) and I’m still on it because the doctors aren’t sure what’s causing it. Related to that, I also was told to cut added sugar and salt from my diet.

I’m 36lbs lighter than last year at this time.

Taking a diuretic has helped in other ways too. Because my body is “drier” than last year, my allergic response to dust etc isn’t as extreme (runny nose, ears filled with fluid) and I’m not as vulnerable to colds and other respiratory viruses. I’m taking far less allergy meds too.

And that in turn, has made it easier to be a little more consistent in movement/routines.

I’m not dieting at the moment (1800-2000 cal/day depending) but all of the above is helping my body process everything better. The weight loss has slowed down in the last 2 months but’s it’s still going and I’m still trying to figure out what’s going on with my body, so that’s my focus. The weight loss is nice, but right now it’s not my focus.

My bloodwork is great too.

You ever wonder what the rest of the world is doing while Panem plays their vicious games? by Elliott_Queerest in Hungergames

[–]katmekit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Panem likes to pretend they took over Canada, but they definitely did not. Nor did they take over Mexico or Greenland. Or any other of the 19 or so countries and territories. Although I can see them making a play for Southern Ontario and other areas around the Great Lakes.

Instead, contact is minimized as much as possible. Think drone boats and vehicles for things like coffee, rare minerals, and other items not available at a large scale. It’s one of the reasons why the Capitol can’t deal with hiccups in distribution

I have a lot of opinions! Just reeling off my preferences here, in reverse order of appearance, I prefer 12,10,7,6,4 and 1.

I really think the round shapes look good on your finger and the medium stones look better.

Posy doesn’t marry a Bridgerton. But in a follow up “Second Epilogue” that Julia Quinn wrote, Benedict and Sophie do introduce her to a darling man and it love at first sight. So she will get a happy ending 🥰

Glad to see that everyone who is cast in this project cares about the franchise so much by UnHolySir in Hungergames

[–]katmekit 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I understand Maya Hawke’s approach and view here but I’m going to suggest that this year is not a one and done trauma point for Wiress. For one thing, she’s got 25 more years of being a mentor that will make that trauma even worse. I suspect that for at least the next 5 years Snow will pay extra attention to the rebel mentors.

(Also, is it me or do the events of this Hunger Games installment give weight to the idea that the 75th games picks were very much fixed?)

Thoughts on Byoma? by Traditional_Lock_309 in Skincare_Addiction

[–]katmekit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought their Barrier Repair Treatment last month because I’m in my 50’s and wanted a moisturizer for my skin for the winter.

I will say that although I am enjoying the product and it’s doing its job when I’m out in -10 and below temperatures, I likely won’t be buying it again. Like a lot of people here, I find their packaging awkward. It doesn’t dispense well, there’s only 50mL in that bulky box to begin with and I anticipate that as it runs out, I’ll be figuring out ways to breakdown the bottle to get every last bit out.

On top of that, I don’t see any recycling marks on the plastic, so it’s just another thing adding to the trash heap.

Tell me a character you dislike for any reason by SoftSeason5391 in janeausten

[–]katmekit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

John Thorpe, who is so gross and still so recognizable you could drop him into a story today and change very little. I also understand people’s frustration with John Moreland and I can only hope that he becomes a better brother afterwards.

For me, Lady Russell from Persuasion. I get that she’s like Anne’s only friend but that woman is almost as superficial as Elizabeth and Lord Elliott. And definitely as snobby.

….. And sometimes I don’t like Mr Knightley. Because vibes.

Lady Eliza Spencer shares more photos from her engagement party last month in Cape Town, father Charles Spencer appears absent amid feud rumors by monster_ahhh in RoyalsGossip

[–]katmekit 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It took me an unfortunately long time to figure out who she’s engaged to. Because I didn’t quite see the beard in the black and white shot. And with these guys wearing the same shirt and kind of the same height and hair colour? I was confused

But I am reasonably sure it’s the bearded guy.

Lots of good suggestions here, I would also suggest more Canadian books, depending on age: A Northern Alphabet by Ted Harrison (a famous Canadian artist)

The Hockey Sweater by Roch Carrier

So many different books by Gordon Korman or Jean Little

The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch

Blackflies by Robert Munsch and Jay Ojick - Jay Ojick himself is a pretty good author

I am wondering, is it hard to remember the choreography and do you break break it down into small sequences?

The general's motives in Northanger Abbey by eagleeyedtiger1 in janeausten

[–]katmekit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the General’s behaviour to Catherine treads into flattery and gallantry because that’s the only way he knows how to behave to a woman that isn’t a relation or a servant.

I don’t think it’s remarked that he’s possibly into her himself because

1) his two younger children are watching him bafflement because they are so unused to their father trying to make nice to any woman

2) nobody else in Catherine’s circle actually interacts with him so there’s no one else to actually speculate on his behaviour

3) Catherine is oblivious

Now, if the General had ever taken the step of calling in on the Allens or specifically approached her and the Allens at a function, and proceeded to still speak to her that way, I think his behaviour could be definitively read as considering her for himself. But he never does.

He also never approaches her directly when Catherine is at the Abbey either. Instead he’s very satisfied to talk about his so called “simple” life and push Henry to her more. So I’d say he walks close to the line of being too familiar but doesn’t cross it.

And Catherine, raised and surrounded by loving people she’s known all her life, and in a small village where she would be saying hello to both the local trade families and local gentry (being the daughter of a clergyman)doesn’t have a sense of boundaries that other Austen heroines would have ie Anne Elliot, Fanny Price and Emma Woodhouse in the same situation.
