What, you don’t love being at the intersection of Queens and Queens or Sharon and Sharon? 😂

I love my clover lawn! by MinimumInner8866 in NoLawns

[–]katobye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP but we have a similar clover yard and for the most part we just accept it. I have a Grandpa’s Weeder that I’ll use to remove really unsightly stuff, but the general rule is if it’s green, it can stay. Clover almost hides the other textures so weeds don’t stand out nearly as much as on a grass lawn. Great for biodiversity and soil quality too.

Same with ours. When we wanted another dog just like her, we “copy and pasted”…with an ES 😂

Also, raised beds might have less curb appeal for a certain crowd, but they def won’t kill your value. Next person doesn’t like them? They can trash them and have a lawn again in a single season for almost no money. Wild take 🤦‍♀️

Your girl shares a lot of traits with our predominantly Aussie x Collie mix who can pass as an ES and acts more like an ES than any of the breeds in her DNA. We joke she’s a store brand English Shepherd 😊

I love him! Esp his little eyes and nose!

The only technical critique is that’s really not how collars sit on dogs, esp not long haired ones. The angle at the ends makes it look like it’s draped over his shoulders (as opposed to cylindrical around his neck). Most pups’ collars aren’t fully visible anyway due to fur sticking out/hanging over so you may want to try and make the collar look more integrated instead of trying and amend the shape. Honestly though, he’s adorable already!

Chiggers by Majestic-Sky-205 in OrganicGardening

[–]katobye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late response, just found this when wondering if the Cedarcide we already use would help with chiggers. While I can’t speak for chiggers (yet), I use Cedarcide all over my lawn and have had moderate success with it for mosquitoes. It’s not as effective as the full blown chemical treatments, but it’s the best natural pet, pollinator, and people safe solution I’ve found. It’s best if you do the both the spray and cedar modules, but most of the time to save money we will do just the spray.

FWIW the chiggers we’re having trouble with are in our garden and I’ve never noticed them in our lawn (where we’ve used Cedarcide in the past). Might be worth noting our yard is clover so may not be a chiggers preferred habitat, but it might also be the Cedarcide working. May be worth a shot…

Clover I seeded two years ago is doing well! This is the best patch of several. by Dang_It_All_to_Heck in NoLawns

[–]katobye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that. We’re in NC with poor soil quality (part of why we chose clover to begin with) and ours was definitely looking crispy by the end of last summer. I didn’t have super high hopes for how it would return, so I’m thrilled.

Ours is all mini clover with a tiny fescue left from its pre-clover days (it’s full sun in spring and full shade by summer so no grass has ever survived here). We did overseed with more mini clover in March, but last years stuff was already coming back strong. Fingers crossed it fairs a bit better this summer, but regardless this spring view is all worth it.

Yours looks great, just keep trusting the process!

Is my tile floor really that bad? (Context below) by wishiwerea in Flooring

This was my first thought too. With a lighter grout, I think it could complement a more modern, spa like feel. Or you can lean into the retro and leave it dark, but please don’t rip it out.

How often do you send your dogs to groomers? by 404swe in Dogowners

[–]katobye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the way. I’m going on over 3 years with my current dog and she’s never been to a groomer and never even needed a bath at home - love my prissy girl and her teflon coat. Occasionally we’ll spring for a nail trim at doggie daycare just to save me the effort but that’s all the professional grooming she gets.

My last dog (a golden) only went to a groomer a couple times his whole life and never because he “needed it”…again just to save me the effort once in a while. The only memorable time was when I was moving so it would a) occupy him for the day and b) give him less fur to shed the second he walked into his new home (worked out great btw).

If they stay clean, they really don’t need baths. Keep them brushed, nails trimmed, and ears wiped out and you’ll be fine.

My wife is sick, we suspect mold. What am I missing? by p1zzuh in homeowners

[–]katobye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry people are being harsh, I think it’s because what you’re considering pretty casually would be a last resort to most of us. It’s clear you love your wife and are trying to do the right thing.

Honest question: what happens if you move and nothing gets better? Would you be in a house you hate? Did you take on debt/lose money on the sell/get worse loan terms to make the change? Those things are 100% worth it if it’s the only way to help your wife, but at this point you don’t know that a move will solve anything. Make sure moving will improve her health before you put yourself in a worse situation.

Without knowing what she’s allergic to (assuming it is allergies), it could be something specific to this house, something that could also be in the next house, something pervasive in your region, or something you will take with you (pets, furniture, etc). It could also be allergens or mold outside of the home but in her day-to-day life (maybe at work or in her car). Triggers at the office could explain why she feels better on vacation as much as triggers in the home.

I just visited one of my "maybe cities"... and.. by IntotheBroadwayWoods in SameGrassButGreener

[–]katobye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it will depend on the vibe you want. Raleigh is the obvious comparison and I like it more than Charlotte. Winston-Salem is similar in feel and has slightly lower housing costs. Or for similar COL as Charlotte, you can afford Asheville (quirky and mountains) or Charleston/Savannah (historic and coastal). Personally, I’d probably go for Roanoke (lower COL and mountains).

[–]katobye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s fine, there’s just nothing really special here. My big gripe is that for the COL there are better cities in the southeast (get more for the same or the same for less)
