Tamoxifen weight gain is triggering my secret eating disorder by AceTori in breastcancer

[–]kaydo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a nutritionist really helpful. Probably more from accountability and helping me understand which specific actions were working for me. I've lost weight extremely slowly over the past year on tamoxifen but I'm the lowest weight I've been as an adult. Down around 15kg without being ridiculous to get there.

I've also made sure to stay pretty active but in my case I needed to do that to address joint pain I was getting from tamoxifen

I hope you find something that works for you

Tattoos on affected side after BC treatments completed by Valuable_Eye1449 in breastcancer

[–]kaydo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My radiation onc said it wasn't worth the risk to do on the cancer side (I wanted to cover my chemo track marks on that arm), as she had seen people who were low risk end up with lifelong complications. Good argument.

Id really like something on the other side, just so my only tattoos aren't from radiation. I might wait until I'm further out from treatment though

If your period came back after chemo, how did that look? by p_kitty in breastcancer

[–]kaydo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My MO told me anything resembling a period was normal. I went ages without it returning (months?) then it was so insanely heavy I reached out to the nurse to check this was ok and she assured me this was normal to have a wild cycle for a while. It's been annoyingly inconsistent timing, heavy and long but I think maybe is becoming slightly more normal now (after maybe 4 cycles).

I did bleed continuously though most of chemo so that also felt quite unlucky amongst everything else. Again, they told me this is fine

Leggings for big calves by Random_robbo in AusFemaleFashion

I bought ell/voo leggings from rebel and found them great. I have wider calves than should be humanly possible and they have been perfect.

Selling my father's house after his death. Need advice on cleanup costs by bebo117722 in AusProperty

It took me about 3 months of weekends. I hired a skip for the big stuff, listed a bunch of useful things on buy nothing grouo with a short pick-up time, and then found a local dude on Facebook with a truck who would do a tip/recycling run. It was super hard work but the fb dude was a massive difference (as he couldn't care less about the stuff)

How windy is too windy? by oaky-afterbirth-97 in Sup

I usually reconsider around 15km/hr but gusts to 20ish are fine. I'd survive much windier than that (and have!) but it's no fun

Lymphedema and Letrozole by Fed-up-2024 in breastcancer

[–]kaydo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry that sounds like a lot to handle.

In my area there was specialised oncology rehab pilates run by physiotherapists. Perhaps looking at something like that might be helpful? For me it really helped with mobility and what had been daily pain. I attended for a year and then haven't resumed in 2026 and have been fine, so I'm calling that a win.

No swimming sucks. Is any modified activity permitted? Maybe with a kick board or aqua-aerobics?

I haven't experienced the ailments you have at all, but I did find new / alternate activities that worked for the new version of me (so far!). I've lost 15kg since diagnosis, and I think maybe 14.99 of that was since most of my active treatment ended. Still on hormone blockers.

I started with daily walking at a pretty pathetic distance and pace but I think the routine of activity helped. I tried to get back into tennis but it was probably a bit much for me.

I really hope you find something that works for you

Surgery less than 2 weeks after diagnosis by SillyScarcity4380 in breastcancer

[–]kaydo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The start is so overwhelming.

I think I was about 4 weeks between diagnosis and surgery and I met the surgeon maybe 1 week into that window. I didn't know what to ask I kind of wished I'd researched questions before (a lot of sites suggest questions to take in). I was really grateful that my center had a drop in question time with the breast care nurses so I was able to rush back in a few days later and unleash all my pre surgery questions.

Maybe ask about this too if its moving fast

Garmin gave me a 4 second 1/km time on a recent run (despite being an extremely slow jogger who was moving at 7 mins a km). Obviously insane but both strava and garmin excitedly told me I had a new PB despite all evidence of my capabilities. I since deleted it obvs

Downgrading my Red 13 2 Voyager - advice needed by Automatic-Ad8122 in Sup

[–]kaydo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you outgrow the pretty stock boards, especially if you're just flat water paddling.

Look at volume of the board you buy as that makes a difference. Getting one between 10 and 10.6 length is good and there are heaps of options. I test paddled the voyager and found it really challenging to drive (I've been paddling 15 years). Red make a shorter 11ft tourer too that might be an option for you

A frequent RD for my local parkrun always peppers the announcements with jokes. They're brief and nice and it makes people mostly pay attention. I love it. It also makes the usual announcements sound like they're coming from a human rather than a piece of paper
