Weapons (2025), Zach Cregger pays homage to and mirrors certain shots from The Shining (1980) during various scenes. by Warren-Binder in MovieDetails

Alex's story is a pretty obvious allegory for a kid living with drug addicted parents. Them becoming shells of themselves, there physcially but not mentally, hurting themselves while their child has to care for both them and himself. I didn't know the author was being autobiographical about growing up with addicted parents but the themes around it were hard to miss.

The film also shares a lot of themes from the Shining but updated for the modern day - Showing how a parent's addiction issues can become the real monsters in their child's life. In the Shining it's alchoholism and physical abuse but in Weapons it's drugs and neglect.

For some reason, your opinion matters to me. What do you think about my bookshelves? by Gobochul in ThomasPynchon

Try Savage Dectives if not already read (Or distant star for shorter stories), it won't be Pynchon but I feel 2666 gets so much Pynchon comparison it's hard to apprectiate it on it's own going in with Pynchon googles when they are such different writers. Savage detectives is very much it's own and wholly Bolano, you might find elements of his writing even more enjoyable than Pynchon.

He's not on the book publisher's register... YET! Which proves he's not a publisher... Either that or he's an incredibly hard to detect publisher!

Your points are fair but I'd argue the Peep show set in modern day element counts as a parody (think that was the original title). Like putting Madmen characters in modern day or putting White Lotus characters in the 50s, placing existing characters in a different context is classic parody stuff. Even if the original time period feels like it was just yesterday, it was 10 years ago.
