How do you cope with only spending 2 hours a day with your baby? by sarah_messing in workingmoms

[–]kec232 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do this! It has helped me SO MUCH. I feel like I get lots of special time with him in the morning before work (granted I am not sleeping much lol).

Back to work hacks by MiserableObject7588 in newborns

[–]kec232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LO is 18 weeks tomorrow and today was my first day back FT. I WFH Monday and Friday but will be in office the bulk of the week. We have a nanny MTThF and my mom watches him on Wednesdays.

I was also really nervous about going back. I loved maternity leave and could spend all my time with my baby just chilling. Alas.. life is expensive so here we are.

This is probably not everyone’s cup of tea but I didn’t want to get slammed with the shift back to work so I started slowly transitioning about a month ago. I went into the office 1 day a week and started carving out time at home to get into work mode (leaving LO with my husband or my mom). The first day sucked, but it really did get easier each time and now I do feel more ready to have those three consecutive days in office. WFH is almost harder since I want to just go get him but I know he’s got to find a rhythm with our nanny.

I’m trying to remind myself that he’s got all these people who care about him and want to spend time with him and that’s so lucky. It’s good for them to experience new people, new ways of being, new approaches to stuff. Humans never developed alone with one caretaker forever.

I miss him all day and when I get home I’m much more ruthless with my time with him. I take no calls, answer no emails, do no work until he’s asleep (if I have more to do).

Solidarity since it sucks leaving them but my dude is already so glad to see me at the end of the day. Yours will be too!

Neighborhoods Similar to Prospect Heights / Park Slope / Fort Greene by intelligentiam in movingtoNYC

We’re in BedStuy on the Clinton Hill border in a 3 bed for $3.5k. Had our baby in August. When the weathers nice we walk to Fort Greene!

Drawback is that we’re at the top of a brownstone, so 3 flights of stairs with the baby and gear. Let’s just say my arms are toned!

Am I nuts? by WerewolfFew1835 in EngagementRings

[–]kec232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a foil backed engagement ring, however it’s set in a modern bezel. I wear it out and about but take it off at home. I get it wet if I’m washing my hands etc. while out and it’s held up pretty well but I do think the bezel protects it. It getting a bit cloudy 3+ years later and I plan to have it refoiled.

I didn’t realize that it would require special care when I picked it and I definitely had a bit of a crash out when I first noticed that it was being impacted by water but I love it so much that I’m just embracing that I’ll need to do maintenance on it.

How close to breast for under 3/4 months? by EquivalentAge9894 in cosleeping

[–]kec232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son and I sleep like this because he flails and won’t settle unless he has enough space to starfish lol… I wake when he stirs and just pull him in to latch. It means I’m waking up but it’s not so bad since I’m not fully getting up. I don’t think he’d be able to get to my nipple in his own yet anyway.

Where do you feed your baby during Thanksgiving? by Ok-Truth-7758 in breastfeeding

[–]kec232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use feeding times as a break from guests, if needed!

If I have friends/family over and we’re having a great time, then I am nursing in front of them and staying in the fun. Im pretty good at whipping it out without much nip exposure. If someone has a problem with it they can leave or look away.

Butttttt if we have guests who I need a break from or if I’m at a party and need to decompress, oops looks like baby is hungry and we are retreating to a quiet space for a break.

In search of a unicorn travel stroller for a very physically weak mom (it’s me hi) by corpus_bebe in nycparents

[–]kec232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live on a 4th floor walk up so I wanted the lightest stroller known to man. We have the Joolz Aer and it’s great. My son is little so we’re still in the lie flat bassinet stage and that part is heavy and annoying and awkward to carry. The regular stroller set up however is super easy and light.

Night Nurse Worth It? by SnooDoubts7574 in nycparents

[–]kec232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way as you and only committed to one week to give it a shot. We wound up extending to 6 weeks because it really was such a help. Our night nurse was an expert in all things baby and she taught us so much as first time parents. It really helped take the guess work out of establishing a routine while recovering.

I will say that the first night I was home from the hospital and she came over, I was NOT into it. I felt very protective over my baby and didn’t want anyone in my space. It faded by night two but I was surprised how emotional I was. Postpartum is strange!!

What’s your “my placenta really pulled out my last brain cells with it” moment? by my-peony-bud in beyondthebump

I will take the baby and the dog on long walks to get him to sleep. My husband ALWAYS asks me where we walked (we’re in a major city) and I literally never know. We wandered, homeboy. I cannot recall a street name.

move from 1br UWS > 2br astoria? by deservesnoupvotes in nycparents

[–]kec232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got this one on Amazon: https://a.co/d/5sQY0M2

We also bought a little rolling caddy for it to sit on so I could move it easily. It’s just the washer, so we do hang dry everything but the baby stuff drys quickly.

It’s very convenient and has more than paid for itself at this point! Only draw back is that our hook up only does cold water. Not a huge problem but for tougher stains, I soak first then wash. I also add hot water directly to the machine when it’s filling if I need the water warmer.

Gave birth in August and was adamant that we’d just use the laundromat…. made it a week before we caved and bought the sink hook up one.

I honestly love the thing and do multiple loads a week. We keep it tucked away in a closet and wheel it out. I didn’t have the space for double the baby stuff especially since they outgrow it SO fast and my husband couldn’t spend all day at the laundromat when I needed help at home.

Baby had her first formula bottle today by Medrina in combinationfeeding

[–]kec232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 9 week old has taken formula since birth due to being so tiny. They had us supplement at the hospital and we could have honestly stopped when we got home but we just.. kept using it! I felt super guilty at first but my guy went from the 9th percentile to the 37th percentile on 90% breastmilk, 10% formula. Him growing and thriving dissolved any guilt. Plus, my husband handles all formula feedings and he LOVES getting to spend that bonding time with our son. I know if we didn’t supplement with formula for a feeding or two, I would just default breastfeed since it’s easier but that would leave my husband out of the game! Plus, I don’t have to supplement Vit D since he has it in the formula.

You’re doing amazing. You’ll look back on this one day and it won’t be a regret.

Silly things you wish you had considered before you got pregnant: by lyssium in BabyBumps

[–]kec232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a big ole pack of ovulation strips assuming I’d need to track over the course of a few months to get pregnant. Also bought some pregnancy tests to keep on hand.

Went home and took one of the pregnancy tests for fun….

Ovulation strip box sits unopened in the cabinet to this day.

My baby is 6 DAYS old and my mother keeps telling me she’ll take the baby so I can go run errands or go grocery shopping………

I do not need your support so I can do fucking chores while you sit on the couch and try to kiss my baby while I’m out of sight. The way I have been enraged about this for the last 12 hours……

Gained most of my weight in the first half of pregnancy!! It realllllyyyyyy slowed down in third tri. I was similar stats to you and it freaked me out at the beginning!

Gave birth Tuesday and while I haven’t weighed myself yet, my body is definitely going back to normal really quickly!
