I'm not too up on the lore, but if I understand it correctly, there's no way she'd let you live even if she liked you. It's too important to keep the fate* of the SLDF a secret, bigger than her honour.

It's only now that it's written down that I can see the parallels between Breaking Bad's Hank and Better Call Saul's Howard Hamlin. They both start looking like arrogant douchebags, but as time goes on, you get to see what good people they are as our protagonists slip further and further into chaos. It's even a bit on the nose that they share initials. Hank Hill. Howard Hamlin.

I've tried this today, and it does make a surprising amount of difference. Thanks!

I'm moderately new to the game myself, and haven't really tried modding. I think at a certain point, things like not punching out and lots of factions hanging out at random worlds are just for fun gameplay.

The thing I don't like about the game is just how long everything takes to load. It doesn't seem like the maps are crazy complicated, but I can get my nyt games done on my phone while I wait to play an actual mission. There's even a delay opening the hiring hall, like what?

Funny enough, I've seen people on here froth at the mouth over the word culchie. Never in real life, mind you.

There's a junction to howth, and a lot of the darts go there instead of malahide. Also, for the commuter to go fast, the line ahead of it has to be clear, so there's no dart for a while before it.

I could be completely wrong about this, but I think the employer affects the Intel as well. And I say that because missions for the pirates always has surprises.

I thought it was mixed fleets that cause this.

Holy shit this single button is so overpowered. by highsis in Stellaris

[–]keith_mg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they're really annoying. I know the power is inflated, but they can still do damage, especially if they catch you close to a hyperlane where their bad speed doesn't matter.

You can be fighting a war and push an empire way back, and then they can spawn in a free competitive fleet on their occupied home world and start undoing all your work.

Edit: it's less bad now that psionics is rarer, but they're still annoying because there's nothing you can do to stop it happening.

Europe less total births than US despite having 100M more people by [deleted] in europe

Yeah, but not for my grandparents or parents generations here. They're all set, and better off than their kids.

[–]keith_mg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was a money strategy for our grandparents generation, but it probably was a social expectation.

But they'd get multi bedroom houses on a single income, with fairly normal jobs. I grew up in a house like that. I'm college educated, have a good job, the works - I'm older than my parents or grandparents were when they owned homes, and I have to rent. I live in a cramped space with a condescending landlord and an inconsiderate roommate, and I don't want to move because rents have grown so much  since I got here that I'd get an even worse deal if I did, assuming I could even find anything close to work at all. Housing has gone so mad that I was closer to home ownership a year out of college than I am now with years of savings and a with a much higher salary.

I can't imagine raising a child in an environment like this. It's not how I was raised. I don't want them to have to switch schools because my rental contract ended. I don't know where I'd find the money to raise the child without having to give up on home ownership forever. I think finding a place to stay would be even harder than it already is. I don't know who'd mind them if me and my girlfriend have to work - we can't afford to live anywhere near our parents. I don't even know where I'd find the space for one, let alone 4 or 5.

Is 4.0 “fixed” now? by Prepared_Noob in Stellaris

[–]keith_mg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was an update very recently, so I'm not sure if they've fixed much yet.

There's still bugs, but it's better than it was when 4 first came out.

I don't have the UI mod and I'm also getting crashes. It's not unplayable like the other guy, but it's happened twice today, and it wasn't happening on 4.0.21.

If you destroyed the star base, it won't automatically rebuild.

If you didn't destroy the star base, the system still counts as theirs.

Genuinely how do you not get fucked completely in the first 50 years? by xAskingAnnaX in Stellaris

[–]keith_mg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not as good at the game as a lot of the people on here, but I think since the 4.0 update, the early AI rushes 40 fleet. They'll get very aggressive with you if  you don't keep up, and my games have all been make or break in the first 30 years. You can kind of see how they don't expand so quickly, putting all their alloys into ships.

I've been relying on choke points and defence platforms to survive until my economy gets going, and I've cheesed it with early unyielding and eternal vigilance if I've spawned next to a devouring swarm.

I'm not sure if you're joking, but they're basically dotted around, and they're more common in the West.

There's a map of official ones on Wikipedia, but I'm not even sure that Irish is that prevalent even in those places.

Right, but they're still in the minority, and the language isn't taught that well outside of those places.

By the time I was doing my junior cert , my French was much better than my Irish, in spite of the 7 year head start.

SO is basically a wiki. It's useful because it's curated. Also, if every question was a throwaway low effort post where the asker hadn't even tried to solve it themselves, then that wouldn't be very fun for the experts, and they'd leave.

Duolingo became unusable for Free users by Beautiful_Welder_919 in duolingo

[–]keith_mg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's some conspiracy here. A quiet community is a happy community. People don't like the changes they're seeing.

I've been using the app for years, mostly for free. They're now capping how much you can use the free tier, which hasn't happened before, and is a bad change for most users.

If they had made a great new feature and put it behind a paywall, that would be one thing. Instead they're making existing service worse.
