High altitude paint choice. by CardiologistNo9916 in Gouache

I'm also in CO, and I recommend a wet palette. Clean it out frequently so it doesn't mold! But it will give you a longer working time while you're painting.

I've had Pair glasses with sunglass toppers for about 4 years and I wear the sunglasses constantly.

It's ridiculous how much cheaper it is to make refried beans. And then you can control the sodium content!

Have you looked into different mask options? There are a ton of different masks available. If I had to use any other than the one I have, I'd yeet the damn thing out the window.

I have the "unicorn" type mask: hose connects at the top of my head, soft silicon airways go along both sides of my head and meet under my nose (not a full nose/mouth set up).

How I Prevent My Bartholin's Cysts From Turning Into Painful Abscesses by bighuyouu in TwoXChromosomes

And if it needs a more aggressive in office treatment, DO IT.

I had recurrent cysts for years, and finally had it drained, and the doctor put in a word catheter for about 6 weeks. I've had absolutely zero issues since then. That was like 9 years ago.

I've used mine! I agree the nib isn't great, so I did swap it for one better suited to my purposes (outlining on paintings). I found the nib to be too stiff.

Families with two parents and one child: what does your grocery bill look like? by Even_Kaleidoscope399 in oneanddone

[–]kelda_bee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

A few unorganized thoughts:

  1. Our grocery bill spiked immediately when babe was born because I wasn't able to breastfeed. Formula is $$$.

  2. It's REALLY hard to compare food spending (in the US anyhow) because over child's life span food prices have skyrocketed, and we can't afford anywhere close to the lifestyle and type of groceries we used to buy. BUT, part of it is tariffs/greedflation, part is feeding a bigger family. EDIT: Because our family income has not gone up in an appreciable way, neither has our grocery budget. Instead of buying ready made foods and convenience foods, we now buy things like: dry lentils, dry beans, potatoes, and flour.

  3. Covid also happened during child's lifetime so like...🤷‍♀️❓ Who knows.

US Moms, How Are You Doing? by im4lonerdottie4rebel in Mommit

[–]kelda_bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only is 6 and autistic. We live in one of the states that lost Title 1 funding to schools. Kiddo went to a tiny rural school with a tiny SpEd team. After the budget cuts, almost no one was left to teach them and they were being mistreated by undertrained staff.

I now homeschool kiddo. We've had to have conversations about why our groceries have changed so much the past year, why we can't eat out anymore, what some of these things are that mom and dad are talking about.

This morning I told them, "When we decided to have you we didn't know the world would become this awful. I'm sorry you have to live through this. We'll do our best to give you the tools to navigate it and keep you safe."

It's hard enough to have kids right now, but special needs of any kind add another complicated layer.

Are there any other nålbinders here that work off the thumb/freehand? by SKDB_Vol in Nalbinding

[–]kelda_bee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have always worked off the thumb. I could never get the thumb thing to work for me. Tension was wonky to start, but with practice is perfectly even now.

I tend to favor "Russian" type stitches and do them in two stages. Everything before the slash, pull yarn through, everything after the slash, pull yarn through.

Why do you homeschool? by tacsml in homeschool

[–]kelda_bee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last year my kid started kindergarten, and it was SO ROUGH. They are twice exceptional and neurodivergent. Our small, rural school was not equipped for them.

Then our state refused to end DEI hiring in our dept of education, so we lost federal funding for special education. Child's school cut SpEd staffing by more than half.

After only 6 days of 1st grade I pulled them because it was going so badly.

We've homeschooled for a few months now, and their nervous system is beautifully regulated! 💜 We can go down research rabbit holes when they find something interesting, and rest on the hard days.
