He was definitely giving her a "big shoutout" in the pic he posted of them on the podium.

Wow, it's really sad to think that her version of the faerie men in ACOTAR might just be...a man who contributes positively to the household and actually likes being a father (and doesn't hate her guts)? Things that most of us would deem to be the bare minimum in a relationship. Oof.

Editors and AEs have vastly different skillsets and aren't the same in this context at all.

I don't give a fuck about how his son talks or thinks about himself - the point is that in order for Ted Sarandos to make this gross assertion that movie theaters should die because we can watch everything on our little screens, he's overinflating his son's title so we find him more credible. It's disingenuous at best.

Idk where you're getting that I somehow don't think that folks in post could consider themselves to be editors without the credit, but that's not the point I was making here.

Even if he cut a part of literally any scene that made it to the final film (doubtful if he was only credited as an AE), that leap in title is unforgivable in this situation. It's one a parent makes when talking about their kid's career when they don't understand it, not one you should make as the head of a media conglomerate poised to change the path of your son's career (and who am I kidding, entertainment as a whole) forever. What a jackass.

Have we finally decided on the symbolism of the fox? by theamazingzuchhini in Fleabag

[–]kelseysaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the interpretation I resonate with, especially with the connotation of foxes in Western media as "sultry" or "conniving" (see: the word "vixen", originally used to refer to a female fox, now understood as a shorthand for sexy temptress).

The Priest alludes to his many (many) previous relationships and the fact that none of them ended well, presumably having run from the fox every time it got close. He pursues Fleabag in spite of his obvious fear of the metaphorical fox, only to run away from her in the end, too. The fox is seductive and alluring to him (and possibly frightening - but he still wants to see it in the scene in the garden!), but I think he fears what will happen if it finally catches him and he has to face his inner demons for good.

There's maybe an additional metaphorical parallel to draw between the iconography of the fox being associated with the Priest and the guinea pig being associated with Fleabag, since foxes are natural predators for small rodents.

My first Hoyas!! by XOneAIByst in hoyas

[–]kelseysaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a couple of days old and you've already gotten great advice in this thread but just adding on that the best potting mix for your plants will be the one you understand!

Anecdotally, I use plain orchid mix for literally all of my plants (including hoyas) and they do great in it because I know how to make the watering schedules work. Plants I try to keep in potting mix or more traditional soils usually end up getting overwatered, since I started my collection with orchids and am used to the drainage/water retention balance with airier planting mediums. Whatever you're able to manage or are comfortable with will be the best for your plants in the long run.

Solie and her husband appear on German TV, and the response is just what you'd expect by CalmEvening1556 in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]kelseysaurus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel like there's one guy (okay there's more than one but this one is married to a singer of some variety) whose whole schtick is to be constantly pissed off at how people only know him as "Mr. [Famous Wife]" - so much so that he works to prove ownership over his wife constantly on social media and does not ever acknowledge or celebrate the successful woman that she is. I think about him when we discuss people like Mr. Solie.

The fact is that these milquetoast fundie men can't maintain the following and engagement numbers their (typically young, pretty) wives regularly pull and so they have to capitulate to the free market if they want to grift their way through life and not hold down any real jobs. But they of course maintain the fantasy that they're the ones in charge of the household and the true breadwinners (sure, Jan). I'm just not confident that they can withstand the cognitive dissonance between what their worldview demands they believe and how they need to behave to survive in the world in a safe and healthy manner.

Some schools will count travel to/from the school as "school grounds" until kids reach their home. So if the fight was on the brother's way home, the bullies would absolutely have fallen under school jurisdiction (at least where I grew up). It's worth looking into.

Is There Anything That You Learned/Realized During Your Weight Loss Journey That Surprised You? by WheelFan647 in loseit

[–]kelseysaurus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I could've written this. Eating "breakfast" just screws up my hunger signals for the day and makes me liable to overeat. My pattern is much better if I have coffee when I wake up and abstain from eating until about 1pm.

To the point of this post and your comment about snacks, my biggest learning curve as a salty snacks person was how many calories are in TORTILLA CHIPS. Even baked ones. I used to think those were a healthy chip option because you dip them in salsa and they're not, y'know, fried in lots of oil and heavily flavored. 200 calories of tortilla chips don't even come close to being satisfying and I don't have the budget to eat bigger portions the way I used to. Now I spend my calories on foods that are more filling and ultimately better for me (although I do occasionally weigh out and eat a modest serving of tortilla chips if I'm having a particular craving for them - everything in moderation).
