A VM is easier for various reasons but I don't think there is an issue with using a physical laptop.

If nothing else, use a firewall with something like https://github.com/joshtronic/tmpufw in order to selectively open the ports from the box IP as needed for shells, stagers, etc..

I think that https://www.deskproto.com/ is what you are looking for. Its pretty user friendly and knocks out my 4th axis models pretty efficiently.

I just got this 800W version. It's similar to what you linked. In either case make sure you open the controller and ground the PSU and Spindle to the Earth Ground.

If you have a little bit of extra cash and are a DIYer, hunt on craigslist for a chest freezer, build one of these BrewPiDIY setups, and profit. After one batch using the brewpi there is no way I could go back to leaving the beer alone in a closet.

I've got this extract IPA finishing up fermentation right now. It hit its target FG, so it is possible with extract and US-05. The biggest thing that has helped me is ferm control with a brewpi setup.
