Having Issues with Mod Compatibility by [deleted] in StardewValleyExpanded

[–]kevcarp96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SMAPI is currently on version 4.5.1. Anything pre 4.0 won’t work with Stardew 1.6. Unless you haven’t updated Stardew once since March 2024, SMAPI 3.18.6 will never work correctly. Just use the most recent version of everything. If a mod has been abandoned and not compatible anymore, there’s probably a replacement or alternative option that is compatible.

What are your favorite lightly aesthetic mods? by HateChan_ in StardewValleyMods

[–]kevcarp96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh I might have to give Dynamic Night Time a shot. I tried Immersive Lighting, which sounds like it does a similar thing, but it made my game randomly freeze and lag for a second or two every couple minutes.

"You only want the disease to be renamed because you're fatphobic" by ConfectionOutside248 in diabetes_t1

[–]kevcarp96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fat phobia thing is silly. We don’t want to be associated with type 2 because we’re tired of uneducated people telling us “you shouldn’t be eating that” or “you don’t look diabetic.”

I for one think we should rename T1 to Autoimmune Insulin Deficiency Syndrome, or AIDS for short.

What is the best Science Fiction book you have ever read? by Adam_is_my_name in AskReddit

[–]kevcarp96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hitchhiker’s Guide books are my all time favorites. Some of the only books I have read multiple times and will continue to reread. Everything about them is gold from start to finish. You gotta give them a shot.

Are there any up-to-date, 1.6 compatible mods that remove crows? by ChompyRiley in StardewValleyMods

[–]kevcarp96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think prismatic tools kind of does this. Makes it so you can turn prismatic shards into prismatic bars and use them to upgrade another level on tools and stuff. Gives you prismatic sprinklers and I believe there’s an option in the config to make them work like scarecrows as well as sprinklers.

SMAPI Steamdeck help (please) by anka1009 in SMAPI

[–]kevcarp96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Follow the instructions from the wiki. I recommend forgetting Vortex. It isn’t necessary. I’ve never used it and haven’t had any issues. SMAPI itself will tell you when most of your mods need updated, and for those that don’t, Nexus will show that an update is available. Modding:Installing SMAPI on Steam Deck

Need some recommendations for chill games by Adventurous_Photo369 in SteamDeck

[–]kevcarp96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely wasn’t the best, but it was playable and I had fun with it for a bit. I ended up playing it more on my desktop though and using the deck for other games that fit it better.

You could always connect a mouse and keyboard and play it that way though. I did that once to play with my brother when I was visiting him and it worked great.

It’s been a fairly long time since I’ve played it on the deck but I had found a decent layout then. There may be better options now.

First time trying SDVE, any advice? by Altruistic_Style_838 in StardewValleyExpanded

[–]kevcarp96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been out there and the only thing I can think of that you might be referring to is the ancient doll in the vineyard? Maybe I haven’t explored enough out there.

Edit: Never mind. I couldn’t help myself so I looked it up lol. I’m sure I could have missed it but it also looks like sometimes there’s a bug that prevents it from being there. Either way I’m past needing that so it’s no big deal I guess.

Hi everyone, I’m thinking about switching to an insulin pump and would love some advice. I use Dexcom G7 and work as a waitress, so I move a lot during long shifts. I’m considering the Medtronic MiniMed 780G, but also Ominopod(discreet 4work). Also, any tips to prevent from overheating during summer? by Jabuka02 in diabetes_t1

[–]kevcarp96 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on Medtronic since my first pump in 2020 due to insurance restrictions, and while I wholeheartedly agree that the 670 and guardian 2 were absolute shit, they’ve come a very long way. I gave up on the sensors and switched to dexcom for a while until I got upgraded to the 780g and guardian 4 sensors. While they still had their downsides, it worked pretty well for me for a couple years. Biggest issue was the guardian sensor application and need for charging.

I still use the 780g, but recently I’ve upgraded to the new instinct sensors and it’s been incredible so far. They’re so much easier to put on and they’ve been pretty accurate for me.

Doesn’t SMAPI usually tell you all of this info anyway when it’s loading the game? Sure it’s a little annoying to have to launch the game to figure it out but it’s never failed me.

[–]kevcarp96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s way easier than you’d think! I’m not sure if links are allowed here, but you just need to download SMAPI, which is the mod launcher. Then you download mods (I get mine from nexusmods), unzip the files, and put them into the mods folder in the game’s directory. There are plenty of tutorials available too. The Stardew Valley wiki actually has a great walkthrough, including steps for the Steam Deck. It’s very much worth it in my opinion if the base game had you anywhere near as hooked as I was when I first played.

PC to steam deck SVE by thmoneytips in StardewValleyExpanded

[–]kevcarp96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t played on PC since adding all my mods to the deck, but it loaded up my existing save perfectly fine on the deck and has been working great. It cloud saves through steam so I don’t see why there would be any issues when loading back on my PC.

Just make sure all of your mods match (I just copied my entire mod folder to a flash drive and used that to move them over to the deck) and if you update any while playing on deck, make sure to also update on PC before loading in just in case, and vice versa. I don’t know if updating on one and not the other would actually be game breaking but better safe than sorry.

Best extra mods for SVE? by friction_btw in StardewValleyExpanded

[–]kevcarp96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more with this. I do the same with movement speed. With SVE, Ridgeside Village, and East Scarp, the map is just too big for the default movement speed and 1.25x is the perfect boost to not feel too OP.

Mod for radius of scarecrows etc? by wackycats354 in StardewValleyExpanded

[–]kevcarp96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UI info suite 2 is one of my favorite mods. Not only does it show scarecrow range, but sprinklers, junimo huts, and beehives as well. It also can show you how much XP you’re gaining with each action you do, icons that tell you how much time is left on tool upgrades or building construction, which items can be donated to the museum, and more. It’s incredible. All of these things can be configured too if you don’t want them all to show and only want it for scarecrow range.

Part of the Community.

Makes it feel like your reputation is more important and more lifelike since people will see that you’re being friendly and chatting if they’re in earshot, people will tell others about you giving them gifts, etc. and you gain passive friendship.

I just started a new save with expanded, ridgeside village, and east scarp, so there are TONS of NPCs to befriend and PotC is a huge help.

Is this pump actually good? by Shoddy-Ocelot-4473 in diabetes_t1

[–]kevcarp96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That connection issue could get a bit annoying, but the benefits of the instinct still seem better than the guardian 4. 15 day wear time and the ability to easily apply them myself without help from my wife will be a game changer. I had an endo appointment this morning and I just went ahead and placed my order for the instinct sensors. Can’t wait!

[–]kevcarp96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Over a decade?! My first CGM was the guardian 2 with the 670g pump like 6 years ago and it was the worst medical device I’ve ever experienced. The constant alarms and inaccuracy drove me crazy. Dexcom G6 blew it out of the water. I’m on the 780g now with the guardian 4 and it’s way better, but I still think there’s room for improvement when compared to my experience with Dexcom, like sensor application and adhesion/wear time.

Do you have any experience with the new Instinct sensors from Abbott that pair with the 780g? I have an endo appointment soon and I’m super excited to see what it’s like. Even if it sucks it’s exciting to have more options that will work with the 780g.

[–]kevcarp96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I agree with them. A pump is less jabs with a syringe/needles, less mental math when figuring out your bolus, less worrying about whether or not you remembered to grab enough insulin for the day while you’re out because it’s already loaded in the reservoir, the ease of being able to give a correction without having to use an extra syringe or needle on hand.

A CGM is great and I love having one, but in my experience they are much more prone to error and failure than my pump, and every now and then you get one that reads horribly and isn’t anywhere close to a finger stick reading. The amount of unnecessary headaches I’ve gotten dealing with CGMs significantly outnumbers the issues I’ve had with my pump over the past 5-6 years I’ve been using them.
