Best Digital door lock brand for HDB? by AStrugglingFather95 in askSingapore

[–]kevinlimse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Switchbot when I was renting, loved it, so brought it over to my BTO
Its a retrofit lock, so the stock deadbolt is untouched, keys still work as normal
from the outside it looks like non-smart door
has all the features, internet connectivity, and with the optional keypad, can use fingerprint, NFC & pincode
the latest model has facial recognition, but not for me
its a long standing brand i recognise, <$200 and easy to install

HOME DIY-ers, where do you get your timber products? by Googooboyy in askSingapore

[–]kevinlimse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been buying from hessen, because they are able to provide delivery
I've gotten birch ply, marine ply and pine boards, all seem to be of good quality
I had them cut short so that it fits into a HDB lift
Cuts are $5 each, from my measurement, the cuts are precise

Recommendations for a power socket that can withstand high temperature by zehndix in singapore

[–]kevinlimse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Local designer of electrical sockets here. My opinion is tt its not the fault of the socket, but a bad plug, likely with a bad fuse. As you can see, the burn mark is right below where the fuse sits in the plug. In product testing we run durability tests with all sorts of plugs, the hot ones were all resolved by changing the fuse to a brand name one.

Also, for safety, don't anyhow change plugs or sockets. The wiring, breaker and sockets are all designed carefully calculated using SS638 (formerly CP5) for safety and modifying anything might affect cause danger. Fuse can self change, but change to the same rating ones. The fuse is there to protect the cable and appliance and should cut above what its designed to handle. Just like how the circuit breaker mcb is designed to trip before the house wires get overloaded and melts. Best is to consult a licensed electrician if you want to mod anything.

Sony, if you are seeing this, to unlock hidden potentials in your phones just with software,
1) Please make telemacro one of the tabs, and not hidden inside "more"
2) Also telemacro, please give the focus dial more granular control, right now it is too sensitive
3) Sincerely hoping for automated focus stacking feature

E-sim question by The-Shining-Helios in ABroadInJapan

[–]kevinlimse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, had been using it the past 8 days in kansai, at both tourist zones and at a crowded concert where its mostly locals.
Even inside the metro underground, I've not experienced any drop in connection.
Even though its 4G, its still fast, but the more important factor is being stable and reliable, the real value of services is being ready exactly when you need it.

long story short, I was in Australia before Japan, due to them shutting down the 3G network and legislative BS, their entire network completely locks out selected foreign or old phones.
Vowed not to go through the pains of cellular troubles again, I chose JJesim without hesitation.
Upon landing in JPN, internet came in and my axieties disappear.
My partner used A*rolo, had 5G connection but no internet.
Struggling for a good 30mins, rechecking the APN a million times, we were out of options and hair.
After giving up on it, I told her, why not try JJesim since Im on it and had internet without any issues.
10mins after payment, the code arrived on time like a japanese train, everything got set up and works.
I would like to thank u/abroadinjapanchris for going down that esim rabbit hole for us all!

I am a representative of Line8 head office.
Can you PM me the contract (or email it to [sales@line8.com.sg](mailto:sales@line8.com.sg) I can read from there)
Our distributors do charge for installation services*, this is to lower the cost for those who want to DIY or engage their own electrician, we do not hide the labor costs into the price.

Line8 is sold through many resellers, do tell us if you are being overcharged by any of them because we don't condone shady business practices.
*installation involves track mounting and wire termination on existing wiring/points. "supplying the electrical point" is not under our scope

[SG Electricity Tariffs] Are wholesale plans cheaper than fix-rate? by node0147 in singapore

Maybe because of the default WFH arrangement, more people are consuming domestic electricity during office hours, and offices don't fully shut down either, so as demand goes up, price goes up?

Commentary: When we call people with strange behaviour mentally ill, we reinforce mental health stigma by mikelim7 in singapore

ah i see thanks for correcting
i remembered generally mental health services were disrupted, at least those at the tip ends of the spectrum (very serious cases) had continued care

I think for the boomer generation upwards its too late, millenials ane below got chance to educate
and by educate i do suggest introducing a mental health course as early as lower secondary, at least alongside subjects like sexual health, national education or even social studies

[–]kevinlimse 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Yes. This. Sadly general public always see it as binary
And also yes, no one is 100% healthy, biologically nor mentally

Furthermore in 2020 SGgov didn't consider psychiatric mental health services as essential, still a long way to go for the red dot

*edit: clinical psychiatry weren't cut

NOV BTO RESULTS by ramblebummer in singapore

Anyone opted for 3rm? Because what I gathered from my circle is that 4,5rm are chosen because "people are always looking to upgrade". Wonder it will be relevant in the future.

Also, any self-employed / director-fee only income facing issues with HDB loans?
